    Currently I am running the Kroot as a fully fledged army. I use the Dark Eldar rules, specifically that of a Wych Cult. The savage, fast, and fragile nature of the army fits with the themes of the kroot, and concepts like "Combat Drugs" easily port to ideas like "evolutionary traits". And the conversions are a lot of fun.

    the Kroot and Wookies have a lot in common.
    both live in trees that grow to to be at least 300 meters to several kilometers into the air, had to fight off invaders who want their planets.
    deliberately low level looking technology.
    fiercely loyal, live in family groups.
    ripping the arms of people and machines off if they lose. swinging from vines and yelling like Tarzan.
    that'd be an interesting video for y'all to do: a comparison of the Kroot to the Wookies.

    They have "avian ancestry"? Literally? Are they literally related to terran birds? Avian is a monophyletic term describing a certain branch of theropod dinosaurs, and their decendats, birds. That's what it means, and that's all it means. You can say that the kroot are "bird-like", "avian-like" or maybe even "avioid", but you cannot actually call them avian.

    • @tobiashagstrom4168
      @tobiashagstrom4168 Před 7 lety

      "Well it's not the real universe, so in Warhammer 40K it's likley only this one species." I honestly can't figure out what you just said. What is "likley only this one species"?
      Either way, it doesn't matter if wh40k is not real, it makes no sense to needlessly violate phylogeny like that. The term avian is based on evolution, on ancestral linage. It is the simpelest feat of logical reasoning to conclude that two members of single linage cannot both originate from different planets with separate evolutions. It doesn't even matter if you apply some Old Ones theory to connect these evolutionary trees, avians are defined as a subset of theropod dinosaurs, the term is monophyletic and applies to nothing else. If these guys cannot trace their evolutionary ancestry directly back to an actual avian theropod of earth, then they're not avian, by definition. Contradicting that is not mixing science with fantasy, it's misusing a term. If all you want to say is that they are implausibly similar to terran birds, then I can suspend my disbelief and accept that. That's what fantasy and sci-fi is about. What they're talking about is simply a contradiction in terms. It's like saying that your literal biological bother was born on the other side of the galaxy to a family with no common ancestry with you whatsoever, who have never interacted with you. It's definitively nonsensical. I can't suspend my disbelief about it being a contradiction, and why would I? All they have to do is to not actually call the kroot avian and only explain that they are SIMILAR to avians, I can buy that.

    • @tobiashagstrom4168
      @tobiashagstrom4168 Před 7 lety

      "In Warhammer 40K the word avian means no the same thing."
      Why the hell wouldn't it, and where in the lore is it clearified that they have needlessly redefined the term? Unless they have an established redefinition, they're just missusing the term as well. There really is no need to redeinfe a word like avian, again, all you have to do is to specify that some alien creature is LIKE an avian, as opposed to actually being avian. (the exception to this could be daemons, because they really are absed off of other creature, so a daemon of tzeentch could be legitimatly said to be avian in the sense and to the extent which it directly and actually borrows avian traits.)
      "Just how in lord of the rings eagles are not the same, as we know them." The Tolkienverse is a world where evolution never happened as far as I know, most things in there are supernatural creation, so there's no need to hold to phylogenetic termenology.
      Not to mention; "eagle" isn't some fancy phylogenetic term like "avian" is. Besides, Tolkeins giant eagles probably are supposed to be related to normal eagles in some way I'd imagine, allthough I don't know for sure.

    • @LabTech41
      @LabTech41 Před 7 lety +1

      As someone who also gets annoyed when pseudo-scientific terms are used, or proper scientific terms are used incorrectly; I usually try to realize that for most folk, these terms might as well be a foreign language to them. 40K, by no means, is attempting to hold themselves to a rigorous level of scientific authenticity. If this were a bit of sci-fi that was trying to be a 'what if?' in the real world, then I suppose you could ding them for something like that; but we're literally dealing with a universe in which radically different planetary conditions all somehow manage to produce a bipedal, humanoid species that we're able to communicate with in a meaningful way. A universe in which space elves exist, where psychic power exists, where if you're not fighting the xenomorphs from Aliens or the half-mushroom beings that somehow have a Cockney accent, you're fighting monsters that are literally made from bad thoughts from an alternate reality. Expecting 40K, or any of its ancillary materials to take the genuine taxonomical classification of 'avian' into account when describing a client race is a bit unrealistic.

    • @tobiashagstrom4168
      @tobiashagstrom4168 Před 7 lety

      LabTech I'm not talking about what is or isn't plausible, I'm complaining about the needless misuse of unambiguous terminology. There is no reason to refer to those creatures as avian if they aren't actually avian. I can ignore a lot o things if my ignoring them leads me to enjoy the universe more, but calling extraterestrials avian doesn't enhance the universe, there is no need whatsoever to call them avian if that's not what they are.

    • @LabTech41
      @LabTech41 Před 7 lety

      Tobias Hagström Like I said, I understand your frustration, but you have to understand that the layman isn't going to regard most scientific terms with the same level of accuracy as you or I would.
      It doesn't matter to them if avian refers to a specific taxonomic group, if someone sees something that looks bird-like and they want to make it sound scientific, they'll use avian.
      I mean, we don't have to like it, but unless the greater portion of the population starts taking an avid interest in scientific literacy, we're just going to have to put up with it.
      I mean, ffs, we still have to deal with the creationist types and religious goons who can't tell the difference between theory and hypothesis.

      Primarchs and space marines cannot be female. The biological processes and hormones are not compatible with female physiology. Women don't respond to testosterone very well, causing undesirable masculine traits. Just like men don't respond to estrogen very well without it feminizing them . It's impossible to use estrogen as a catalyst to grow a being that would be as big, strong, and resilient as a space marine or a primarch. It just won't work. It's called sexual dimorphism. The differences between the physiology of the sexes is too great.

    "the Kroot where allegiance to"
    Dude, I love your videos but this is getting distracting, please can you run your scripts through Grammarly?
    also, even if you are getting the info directly from the wiki can you re-word it or restructure it, it's distracting to go "I want to hear the lore about X" so you go read the wiki page to see what books X appears in, then decide to look for more information about X whilst waiting for it to arrive or download and then finding a word for word reading, in some cases, of what you already read on the wiki
    you can do better man.
