Hi Jeff. I dug out foundations under existing homes in Seattle for 25 years. The best excavation tool I ever used in tight places was a shopvav. Bobcat makes a medium sized sewer vacuum that is trailer mounted. It is available with a remote start. You could move an incredible amount of dirt with that!

I’ve seen the hand held drill rods . In an underground operation over 100 yrs old in 1981 . No one can imagine the heat 167 rock temp and way up from there , some areas 100% humidity mixed with it . Not to forget gas pockets , n over hangs in the tons . What u get is 1000% roughest conditions on the planet in the 1800s and 1900s . Underground required a special hard ass person for sure !

Jeff, you need a blower for digging down in the bottom to replace the bucket (basically a massive vacuum the Aussies use in the opal fields) it’ll make that digging way easier
Cost money and he will then need a gym
Suction dredge.
Use some water keep the dust down.
Also bigger hammer drill and hoist the chunks after drop em on a net.

They don't have to be opened wide but grab material well

Jeff I been in the mines you know that. I been thinking shhhh it's ok . On the farm back in olden tymes lol. We had hay stacker elevators. Plug in. Man they could be 30 feet. Put two together what I'm getting at. Is in the sump with worms it would fit like the wood ladder and put trays on it like a bucket dredge. Perfect for raising the material from below

Live in nc and there are gold mines all around where I am. I can dig on my property and have placer deposits. And I have a natural spring in in my property.
