There’s only one thing more embarrassing than an instant death - an instant death you totally deserved. Like the times a game tells you not to do something again and again and you ignore it and stride into disaster, or when curiosity gets the better of you and you can’t help but try something stupid. Whether it’s a superhero smackdown in South Park, an android malfunction in Nier Automata or endless fatalities in Baldur’s Gate 3, here are the deaths we’re embarrassed to admit to.

Touching the hand of Midas and turning yourself into a golden statue in the original Tomb Raider is an instant death that is definitely deserved

Gets called out for Dave wearing normal clothes in the BG3 Tally, then immediately starts with a BG3 intro for another tally. 10 out of 10. 😂
And he has a different shirt? Do they make Dave put the hat back on each time? I thought they'd film a view in advance!

I'm from Argentina and I'm just so glad Rob's Friday Features are back. I used to watch them way back when I was just beginning university. Now I'm fully graduated, working and whatnot and I still laugh with your vids as much as I did back then! Such a joyous tradition. Thanks for bringing it back!

My favourite and probably most common is the curious "Does this game have fall damage?", somewhat closely followed by "Can I swim?"
There's also the "Will fire burn me?"
“Do my own bombs hurt me?”
“Can I trigger my own proximity mines? If so, do they damage me?”

The Morrinth death is essentially the "I can fix her" meme taken to its inevitable conclusion.

One instant death I remember was from the first Tomb Raider game, when you jump onto the Hand of Midas and instantly turn into a gold statue, totally worth the death to see that animation sequence.
I forgot it was Friday as soon as i saw this, i was like "what the hell, it's already Friday?!" Thanks for always brightening up our Fridays Rob, i'm so glad these are back

Here's my short story with Nier Automata's self destruction: I really thought it was just a troll feature. There's this whole bit at the start of the game where you try to disable it and 9S won't let you, but then you can do it anyway and he promises not to tell. But then I enabled it again anyway and tried it to see what it did. I was at the bunker, so it was an instant game over. I never even suspected that the results would be different in any other part of the game, so I never used the feature again. I thought it was there just for a joke and achievement. Imagine my surprise months later when I encountered a thread about people using it for its intended purpose.
I’ll never forget fighting Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 2 for the first time and then not pressing Triangle quick enough at the start of the fight
CRT game over burn in. Ouch that hits home.
A Friday feature on my birthday, this is the best present I could’ve asked for!

My favourite death was in Disco Elysium as well. Only 5 minutes in, I tried to get the spinning shoe out of the ceiling fan, slipped, caught my tie in the said fan, and was hanged 😂😢

I've been campaigning for this on and off ever since watching the Cyberpunk campaign. Hoping for various TTRPGs so we can see many flavors of chaos. Hopefully not all double tetanus flavored. 😂

BEFORE I got my training in IT, I was extremely tech illiterate, so I didn't understand what 2B's OS in a bid to gain that little bit of disk space.
I'm essentially glad I learned that lesson in a videogame, rather than by deleting Windows on an actual PC by mistake.

My favourite BG3 insta-kill I've had is where you are tasked by the god of the githyanki to kill the visitor in the artefact. I thought "She's probably exaggerating her powers, if I just don't do it it'll be a story point and we'll move on." Nope, immediate death when she realised I'd refused to do what I said, fair to say I won't make that mistake again.
I took what Morinth told me as a challenge. Surely, my Shepherd is not any ordinary human. He was in fact, an ordinary human. XD

The NieR Automata deaths are very funny. My favorite is 2B going to live her life as a fisherman, haunted by the ghosts of the people she abandoned.
For a self placed death, my one friend in HellDivers2 had put down anti personnel mines, and ran into them himself THREE TIMES in less then a minute (respawned) killing himself, over and over.

P. S: the NieR deaths were hilarious. My personal favourite self-inflicted demise is in Final Fantasy XV, via botched landing! Took many attempts to learn how to do it properly, too.

once I figured out that you can summon Cthulhu to solve some scribblenauts puzzles, that was pretty much it for me. used it as often as possible.
Never knew about the south park cube one. I said there punching that thing for a good while because I EXPECTED something like that but nothing ever happened.

In the point and click game Deja Vu for the NES, there was a "self" option that allowed you to try to use any item on yourself. Some items you had to use on yourself to finish the game.
The game also gave you a gun... which provided a way to have been an entry on this list.

In Heavy Rain, in the apartment fire, I didn't think it looked very high...so I leapt out the window to my death.
