Your review is the best comparison so far and honestly they seem damn near similar, but I'd just say it like this. If you want a more prismacolor-like pencil go for the soft touch and if you want a more polychromos-like pencil go for the gold! ✨

I've noticed many colored pencil reviews (not just you) have issues with the purple in mixing tests.. it's because you pick a warm red which is neutralizing the cool blue. You need magenta, cool yellow, and cyan for a proper primary trio.

I’ve been moving from Michigan to Washington State. 2800 mile Total. In about 16 days we move our stuff from storage to our new home. So excited! I’m missing my yarn and color pencils/books. Looking forward to getting in the groove again. Thank you Claire. 😎

Claire , I really enjoy your approach to testing any pencil. You keep your comments uncluttered. And by the way I really enjoyed your music choice. Very upbeat, toe tapping. Thanks Claire

Great review Claire 🙏. I agree that the vintage colours are gorgeous- love the range of pinks and purples but definitely not enough blues and greens and it’s very strange the order of the colour chart. To be frank I doubt I’d add these to my collection as I’d hoped they’d be better in colour choice and lay down so I really appreciate your honesty Claire.
It’s great to see a video from you. I love watching and listening to you.🤗💜🌹

I originally began with Castle Arts pencils and just loved them, but most Color Along videos use the Prisma pencils; so I returned them and wish now I hadn't. I feel their colors seem more "modern". Another video where I learn so much. Thank you for your efforts! Elizabet

I have these pencils but I got them in the fabric case. The pencils in this packaging line up perfectly with the swatch chart but like you, I found the colour groups are just weird. The colours are beautiful and they look wonderful in the packaging. I haven’t actually coloured with them yet but they are wonderful just to look at. 😁

I massively prefer these Golds to the original Softs and find they work pretty well with paper that isn't too toothy, like the Colouring Heaven magazines. Totally agree that the colour order on the Swatch Chart and in the tin/case was a bit odd. I just redid mine in colour spectrum according to the charts in the booklet which were far more appropriate :D

Hi Claire! Great review, it’s a shame those interesting and outlier colors don’t have an artist quality. I’m always disappointed when I find matching colors across my sets. Yes, it’s nice to be able to convert, but really I would prefer they were all unique 😍

Thank you for doing the solubility test. I liked the soft touch but they were effectively watercolour pencils and so I couldn't use them for mixed media. The Arteza pencils and Black Widow also had the same issue, but Black Widow at least make it clear that their pencils are soluble. Arteza just stopped selling theirs after the "drama." Obviously for my own art I would just use my artist quality pencils so it's a non issue, but it's nice to have something more affordable to mess about with without having to sacrifice my process.

I really like the different vintage colors there are some colors that are so different and fun.
I kinda like for the fact that it comes in a case easy too travel with . And, not killing your budget I still have my Fiber cell and my prisma colors
It just looks lime fun . I know the wax ones have a bit more color arrange but they don’t have those pretty different vintage colors.
    Have you try the metallic?
Please , let me know your thoughts.

Yes it seems like the more pastelly tints come first, then bright hues, then the more muted or "vintage" ones. I am getting a set in the zipup case for Christmas, and will probably rearrange them to my liking. 😅

I’m a little late but I got the 120 Gold set after getting the soft touch, and unfortunately for me my Gold set had loads of pencils consistently break while I sharpened them. I got in contact with the company and they are sending me a brand new set as a replacement for free after I showed them my issue. Not only awesome pencils, but lovely customer service too. They got back to me quickly and simply. So if anyone else has the same issue I had, just contact them. They get back quickly and are simple with their words

Hi Claire I love your videos very much😍. I just found your review of Marco Renoir colored pencils but I couldn't find it as a video on your channel. But I'm confused between it and Castle Gold. I know that both types are good, but what do you advise me in terms of performance and smoothness for portrait drawing and coloring?

Same problem I had swatching the Castle Art Pasteltint colored pencils, they weren't in order and I kept going back and forth between trays, was a nightmare. But I'm not a fan of Castle Art anyway and I don't like very many brands of oil based pencils.

  • @denorene16
    @denorene16 Před rokem

I was wondering if I should stop considering Castle Arts for my pencil collection in planning. I watched the review on the CA Soft touch. I wasn't liking that to get a specific color I would have to buy the theme set (like almost all of them). I prefer the CA Gold pencil set. They have a little more variation to it. So, the collection would have more oil-based pencils than wax- based.

I just got the castle arts Pastel tint pencils it came in a case which is great with a lot of information.
I have been enjoying these pastels especially because it comes in a case . I thought I would use them as A complimentary color with my other colors.
I hope you can do a review on them.
Castle Arts all colors come in a case now not in a tint. I don’t know if they have change the colors since.
But I thought it was a nice touch that they came in a case and the case isn’t too heavy at all which is god for traveling.
Saw your review on castle arts wax and gold .
I really wanted too like it because of the convenience of the case it comes in travel with. But now I guess I will wait a while on which set I world like.
I kinda like the Gold since it does have different colors .
Anyway thought I would pop in .
Thank you as always for your reviews.
    ❤️

Un'altra domanda . Forse l'hai già detto, non lo so, non capisco molto bene l'inglese... In queste matite Castle ci sono indicazioni sulla resistenza alla luce? La casa produttrice dà indicazioni in merito?

I wanted so badly to love these. I lovelovelove the original Castle Arts soft touch, the pastel tints, their watercolor pencils and woodless watercolor pencils. For the Golds, the shades are incredible. But they're soooo crumbly. And they did NOT act like any oil dominant pencils I've ever used. I tried to use them for hair and they were wayyy too mushy. Once I started using them without calling then "oil based" in my head I started enjoying them much more. But far from great for me. You can feel the filler in them. Be it wax or otherwise. I keep them for use in my cheap Amazon coloring books where I do mindless coloring. But they're just not for me. And it's sad because I usually prefer a harder more lil dominant pencil. I have plenty of expensive brands I use in my own art but there plenty of lovely budget brands I use for coloring. These are not them. I did find they layered well over alcohol markers but so do a lot of pencils. I hate returning items, it feels so wasteful. I'd rather find random uses for them but I would NOT recommend these. I love Castle Arts and feel that they do listen to consumers so I'm willing to be they reformulate and they are much better. But as of now I highly recommend the Soft Touch or even Arteza for the same price. But as for oil based, get Brutfuner squares, Deli, Schpirrer Farbens, or Markart/Nyoni.

I had previously posted on Lori’s group too and nobody replied. Wondered what has happened over them and if they were posted to you as nobody has said a dicky bird lately; hence my email. Can you let me know if you received my email? Also what happened over the purple squishies? Many thanks.

Re: squishies, last I heard they were returned to Lori due to being ‘undeliverable’ but never made it out of the US. We thought it might be packaging issues or even customs, but I’ve tried to contact Lori since to see if she’s going to try and resend but I can’t get in touch with her. Could be that email gremlin again!

@@ColourwithClaire Ah! Thanks for the update Claire. Hope your mail gets sorted as I would hate to think a really important one doesn’t get through. Over the years we have become so reliant on emails haven’t we? I wonder (and this is just a thought) if it is ‘undeliverable’ because it has some sort of banned chemical in it? Remember they are mattress samples and there could be something it is treated with in it, that is not allowed in other countries, and the package was unlucky enough to be picked on during random custom checks. Saying that though, if anything, it is normally the other way around; stuff going into the USA - remember how Holbeins were banned? I guess time will tell but thanks for the update, much appreciated.
