    What you found at first was a WWII type “bandolier” that an infantry man would carry with ammunition loaded into “stripper clips” for fast reloading a bolt action rifle, usually a British Enfield 303 or 308. The officer seemed to say that the cartridge was a 5.52 which is a recent caliber that NATO and most European countries have changed to.
    I am 70, have had the pleasure to visit the British Isles twice and found the people amazing and the country beautiful.
    You finds are addictive to watch.

    The ammo and belt are military. The velcro places it after the mid-70s, when velcro started being used by the military. As the ammo is 5.56 that places it after the mid-80s when the military fell on their heads and moved from the 7.62 L1A1 rifle to the 5.56 SA80. The non-bullet thing you pulled out is a loading tool, used to load multiple rounds into the magazine quickly and with blistering thumbs.

    That pistol is a blank-firing replica of very poor quality. Made by Bruni in Italy, mostly zinc alloy with a steel barrel. Good thing you called the police, though! Weapons of any kind, whether legal ones or illegal ones, shouldn't be abandoned where one has absolutely no control over them. With this one, I can picture three scenarios: 1) someone still had it and wanted to get rid of it the easiest way, 2) it had been tampered with, trying to make it to work with live ammonutíon (very bad idea), or 3) it had been used in a crime as a threatening device at one time, and then disposed off.

    • @JumaiPL
      @JumaiPL Před 5 lety

      I'm a month late, but those are 100% 5.56. The bandolier they found is one of the ways they come in ammo cans, they are packaged in stripper clips and the bulkier thing is a magazine speedloader, that you put on top of the magazine and run stripper clips through it to quickly load magazines. My guess is, some paratrooper lost it during a training jump, there's no other way as they are pretty new, unavailable to civilians and criminals. Maybe some criminals stole them from a army base and dumped them there, but that happens extremely rarely.

    Me and my friends found a pistol in a lake once. I didn't believe it was real until I felt how heavy it was, and so we decided to call the police and let them deal with it. Long story short, they said over the phone that it's probably fake and to just throw it back in the lake. We tried to tell the officer on the phone that it had some serious weight to it and even had a sleight serial number on the side of it, but she insisted it probably wasn't real and to just put it back where we found it. It was this that made me lose faith in the British police, as yeah, it could have been fake, but without a proper inspection, how do you know? If I had to sum up British police in a single word, it would be lazy.

    The hand gun if it is a blank firer may still be regarded as a potential firearm in the uk as some can be reverse engineered into viable weapons for crime use. Blank firers in general do not require a firearms certificate but some models have been banned from sale in the UK as they are too easy to convert. Even in its standard form they have the same intimidation effect. I don't think many people even use them in track and field these days. How things have changed... I remember in the 70's, our old headmaster had a Webley service revolver he used on sports days.

    The Boulton-Paul Defiant, the Bristol Blenheim and Sir Bernard Lovell.
    During the Mcr. Blitz only 2 confirmed German bombers were accounted for. Even with barrage balloons and spotlights it was difficult for Britain's air aces to defend their territory in the dark. Two unlikely aircraft fulfilled that role.
    The Boulton Paul Defiant was a turret fighter, 4 Brownings as armament in a power-operated turret. A single-engined aircraft - a Rolls-Royce merlin engine gave it some handy speed. It's two-man crew often did sterling work, a plane with fighter speed and a turret giving it awesome firepower in a wide-arc it's weakness in times of trouble being the difficulty with which the rear-gunner could extricate himself and bale out.
    The Bristol Blenheim was partly funded by Harold (Lord) Rothermere proprietor of the Daily Mail. It was a super fast twin-engined light-bomber and a step forward for the '30's. It came in two varieties, the short-nosed and long-nosed versions. Used in the Phoney War for leaflet drops and attacks against shipping. It was very bravely-crewed as it had only light armament. Like the Defiant that took to the skies defending Mcr. in the interceptor role, the Blenheim shone in this role.
    This was largely due to team who invented the CavityMagnetron, enabling the first reliable air-borne radar. Amongst this team was Sir Bernard Lovell who was the man behind the University of Manchester's Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope.

      no we cant have a knife to walk around the street with, for obvious fucking reasons, we dont need guns, we have done fine for years without them, still doesnt mean that people cant get guns, if you have no criminal record, you have a good legal reason to use it, you can often get a license for some rifles/ shotguns and very rarely pistols.
      but unlike your government and police etc, we actually know who to give them too so we dont have people running round the streets or in schools shooting every bastard they see. you can talk about how we dont have a gun to defend ourselfs but people have been shot by people in england before, and may i just say that if you went outside with no gun and you get shot in the head, you would have nothing to defend yourself ,you'd just die, its exactly the reason we dont need guns given to random people who get one just because they feel like it
