I spent 6 years as a movie theatre manager and I was the manager you want. I evicted people numerous times from my theatres - for loud talking, disruptive behaviour, and occasionally drinking alcohol. I love movies and I want my customers to have a good time and love movies too. You started enforcing behaviour and the bad seeds stop coming to the theatre.

The worst/best theater experience happened when Maleficent 2 came out. I had no interest in it, but my dad really wanted to watch it with me for some reason, so off we went to the AMC. We sit down in some nice seats and I'm looking forward to this long overdue father daughter time, but then a group of loud teenage boys sit down in the row behind us.
They won't shut up. They talk at full volume throughout the trailers, snickering and throwing food at each other, letting their giant slushies roll under our seats n shit. Other people are getting annoyed too, so me and my dad turn and glare at them for a good 10 seconds, and we think they're gonna be quiet now. 5 minutes later, they start laughing and yapping again. I'm about to say something, that is until my dad spins around and yells, "what the FUCK is the matter with you? SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP."
Needless to say, those douches didn't make a sound for the rest of the movie. A Disney movie, I might add, during which my father told a bunch of kids to shut the fuck up. One of my favorite dad moments lol

Saw Avengers Endgame by myself. Suddenly, I hear a phone ring. Guy sitting beside me answers his phone and starts yammering away. Despite my frustration, I politely ask him to turn off his phone. He apologizes, ends the conversation, turns off his phone and apologizes again. There's hope for the world yet, perhaps.

That is a good ending to a situation I would hate, and I have to admit I probably wouldn't have said anything - I'm not very confrontational. What I just will never understand is how that guy thought it was okay to just answer the phone like that. He actually requires a complete stranger to tell him what to do in order to learn how to behave around others.

A group walk in and sit 4 rows in front of us, they all have drinks from the bar, two of the people from the group just wont be quiet.
About a half hour in and three trips to the bar the guy and the girl have literally talked about the current scene and every time they one would get drinks the other would fill them in with what happened while they were gone, Loudly!
So at a point I knew would disrupt the movie the least I let her know that they where ruining the film for everyone, she got up came back to me a yelled in my face saying her boyfriend would f.... me up.
The family behind us goes then your boyfriend better be able to f.... them up to because we where sick of it.

Their response to my near plea was the last straw. I stood up, walked over to where they were sitting and stood over the boyfriend. I smiled, leaned over him and whispered, "I'll see YOU, after the movie," then calmly returned to my seat. Less than a minute later they left. It was a risk, but I had to take it. As the movie started a bunch of teenage girls sat in the back row giggling laughing and talking during a serious tone sequence of the film. I had enough and said “not today!” Went back there and with a raised voice said I have been waiting a VERY long time to see this film. I can hear you from the front of the theatre! Can you please be quiet! Not another word after that but they were gone by the end of the film. A rare victory!

I was watching "War of the Planet of the Apes" the other day and there were these two really annoying teenage girls talking really loudly and just laughing during tense moments of the movie. I mean, we were right back of the theatre and they were right at the front, but it felt like they were screaming in my ear. I was getting ready to get up ask the to be quiet, when I heard this booming voice behind me go, "SHUT THE FUCK UP", and I just smiled to myself. The girls didn't make a noise for the rest of the movie and at end I personally thanked the guy, who turned out to be quite a bit younger than me. The guy literally made my week.

Speaking of War for the Planet of the Apes when I first saw it in theaters on Wednesday while AMC was doing their movie marathon for old movies to play along with the new movie and before War started I had a few movie goers sitting right next to me they were speaking quietly they didn't cause any major problems in the theaters but one of them discuss the ending before the movie ever started yes someone right next to me spoiled the ending for me. I'm not going to tell how the movie ended if anyone didn't see it since I respect anyone who wants to see a movie for the movie going experience and War is a damn good movie but I was disappointed that someone was speaking about the ending since I was so excited to see it without watching any trailers and someone had to ruin the ending for me. Thankfully the audience was quiet and respectful while watching the film even the people sitting right next to me were quiet but man they ruin the ending for me and I didn't do anything about it since I'm always quiet and respect for audience members who want to see a movie.

Great rant! The level of selfishness from those kinds of people is appalling. My worst/most satisfying experience comes from watching a group of teens get what they deserved after they took turns launching popcorn at different people scattered throughout our theater. This launching of popcorn went on for what seemed like half of the bag. Eventually they aimed at a couple near the front row. One of those ass clowns managed a direct hit on the boyfriend's dome. This man immediately took off his coat and turned around. He scanned the theater for the potential attackers. After a few seconds of unclear staring I slowly extended my arm up and pointed my finger towards the group behind me and to the left. The boyfriend gave me an appreciative nod and made his ascent. All 5 or 6 of said ass clowns immediately got up out of their seat and ran down the opposite stairs and out the emergency exit door. The icing on the cake came was when I noticed the boyfriend coming back down toward his seat chowing down on the half empty bag of popcorn. Victory.

    My bad annoying idiot experience:
Went with my best friend to go watch Avengers End Game the day after it was released in theaters (Since in Australia, movies normally release on Thursday). Mind you, I had been at work all day, getting through a very slow work day getting excited to watch a movie that I've have been waiting 11 years to see since the original Iron Man. So I finish work at 5:30pm, go to pick up my mate from his place, and at about 6:30pm, we're sitting in the theater in a Gold Class theater, getting pumped to watch it. Most of the people in that room are massive Marvel fans I assume, as we were able to watch most of the movie in peace.
    But.
When the final battle happens... There's one guy behind me and my friend who gets a phone call, answers, and after a minute screams out "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN IRON MAN USES THE GAUNTLET TO KILL THANOS!!!!"
Oh man... The *entire* movie theater exploded in outrage over this. Me and my friend get up and throw our drinks and food at this asshole, screaming in rage over how this movie was ruined for us now. This man literally experienced the equivalent of Cersei doing her walk of shame, with people screaming at him, throwing drinks and food as he ran out of the theater. And because we ALL made a complaint, we all got a refund for our tickets, food, and beverages, AND we got a free gold class ticket to a movie of our choice that could be redeemed within a year's time.
But to this day... That man has my eternal hatred for ruining an event that I waited 11 years to see. Fuck that guy, I hope he burns in hell.

I work at an Amc and one time a man came out of Baby Driver and complained about a couple teens who were ruining the film for him. So I went into the theater and politely asked them to stop talking and then walked down the hall towards the door where they couldn’t see me. Maybe a minute passed by and the teens started talking as loud as humanly possible and so I walked back up and gave them their last warning. Another minute passed by and somehow they got even louder. I told them to grab their stuff and leave and of course they didn’t like that. I walked them out of the theater and this one kid pulls down his pants and moons me. Then his friend takes the skittles he had in his hands and throws a handful at me. They then flip me off and run out of the theater. I really contemplated quitting that day. Obnoxious customers are not only the worst for the people in the theater but it also makes our job more difficult as well.

But basically what happened every 10 or 20 minutes is that she would ask me “What’s going on?”
    “Who’s that?”
“What’s that Blow dryer droids name?”
And *basically just questions that would be answered seconds later* and my calm responses were usually “Please just watch the movie.” Or
“I’m trying to enjoy the movie so can you please be quiet.”
I didn’t expect much silence but thankfully towards the end of the movie she was completely silent and respectful. I left the Theater with a smile on my face looking forward to what will come next from Star Wars.

An experience that always sticks out was when I went to see The Return of the King; a couple people behind me apparently had never watched the first two movies, so their friend had to fill them in on each character and what was going on. I could understand their need for context, but after about half an hour I finally had to ask them to keep it down (after all, they should have watched the first two movies beforehand). Then they proceeded to yawn loudly the rest of the movie.
I used to live in an area that had a large international population, and I learned that for many, it was simply culturally acceptable to talk during movies. At least in those cases they generally weren't loudmouths.
For many ill-mannered moviegoers, the theater is essentially the same as renting a motel room for 2 hours, so it's all about THEIR freedoms, unconcerned they are infringing on OTHER PEOPLES' freedoms.
Sometimes it's hard to gauge if someone is going to be a talker when they act that way during the previews. I want to do a preemptive hush, but generally I'll wait and see if they keep it down for the main attraction.
I know someone that has a standing policy to as loudly as he can announce "SHUT THE F**K UP!"

Something similar happened to me when I saw the re release of Return of the King with my brother.
This group of guys in probably their late 20’s sat at the far end of our row. Every now and then they would talk and laugh a little too loud (enough that I had to shush them) but not enough to outright ruin the movie.
But then we got up to the ending.
So the seats in the theater were these squeaky recliner ones and one of the guys adjusted their seat somewhere around when they started traveling to the Grey Havens. Then the squeaking kept going…as the guy then proceeded to start playing with the recliner on his seat to make his friends laugh. One of his friends then proceeded to do the same thing right when Frodo was saying his goodbyes, basically killing the moment.
Come to find out later from my brother that the guys had snuck alcohol in and that’s why they were acting so childish. So yeah…these guys decided to go get drunk at a film screening (that only happens every couple years or so) for one of the top-rated films of all time. Bravo guys. Bravo. 😑

I'll never forget the time I went to see Life for my brother's birthday in theaters. I'm not the type to typically watch horror movies, but this one seemed genuinely interesting to me, and I was willing to try and get over my nerves to go see it, and amazingly enough, I got sucked in and was really enjoying myself until my own freaking family, my wife included, turned into the exact type of moviegoers I despise. They were loudly reacting to every little thing and were the loudest group in the theater by a country mile, even during the quiet moments, and they completely sucked me out of the movie to the point where I was far more frustrated with them and unable to reinsert myself back into the atmosphere. When I tried to get them to quiet down a bit, they looked at me sideways and got so offended that they suggested I sit somewhere else. Needless to say, I don't see very many movies with my family nowadays.

Is it just me, or has this issue gotten WAYYYY WORSE AFTER COVID??!!
Before it, I only had like two instances I could remember of bad movie goers. After Covid, almost HALF of the showings I’ve been to have had people who are super loud and won’t shut up! And it never feels like it’s worth the hassle to tell them to stop talking cause THEY see YOU as the crazy one. And it’s always a group of people who are being total smart alecks and are picking apart the movie for everyone to hear.
I probably sound crazy, but I just have to let off some steam after watching “Everywhere All At Once” tonight. I had a guy next to me who was on his phone for half the movie, and even had the volume up at one point. Even though it was just him, he was still talking out loud at points during the movie. If you’re going to do that crap, WAIT FOR THE MOVIE TO GO TO DIGITAL!! It only takes like a month now.
I had to get all of that rage off my chest haha. Hope this helps someone else as annoyed as I am about movie going audiences today.
Chris, please weigh in and make “Part 3: Post Covid”

He was texting, and the screen was so bright that it was causing a glare in my 3D glasses. I asked him to please turn his phone off, and he said to me, and I quote, "How about you shut yo' white ass mouth up 'fore I punch you in your shit!" When the movie ended, I "accidentally" stretched my foot out, and he tripped and tumbled over the rows below us. He had the misfortune of face-planting in a young girl's shirt, and I'm pretty sure his teeth snagged on her bra strap. Next thing I knew, I was comforting the trembling girl while the man was arrested.

I finally got a chance to see "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" with a good friend of mine last month. We went to a 4:00 showing, which is very late. At first, we thought we had the entire auditorium to ourselves and I was getting ready to enjoy the movie. Unfortunately, lo and behold, there were different families of kids; one of which was a mother, son, I'm guessing about seven or eight years old, and a baby. Another family came in with a toddler. Let me tell you; the minute I saw that mother carrying her baby up the stairs to find her and her son's seats, I knew I was in for a downright, terrible experience.
"Jurassic World" had barely even started, and what does that baby do? Cry. I am not pulling your leg. Every fifteen minutes, that baby cried throughout the entire movie. It was so bad, I couldn't pay attention to the characters or dinosaurs on the screen. The mother had to take the infant out of the theater a couple times to calm it down, and that was distracting, too. What made it worse, was I could hear what was going on right behind us. I was extremely upset by the situation, at this point. On top of the baby, near the end of the movie, the toddler loudly says, "Look, the dinosaur's making a mess!" When the end credits started rolling, I cannot tell you how relieved I was to get the heck out of there. It put me in such a bad mood, I couldn't think straight. "Jurassic World" and "Jurassic Park," in general, is not some cutesy, talking and singing dinosaur film for babies and toddlers. Both of them are rated PG-13 for a good, dang reason.
Babies and toddlers do NOT belong in a movie theater, at all.

I have heard stories, but luckily have never experienced a nightmare like you have Chris. Here are my steps (it's not for everyone, of course)
1.) I hardly go anymore. Have not been to one in 4 years.
2.) If I do go, I go at the earliest time or the most isolated, far away cinema I can find.
3.) Looking at step #2, I wait until the very last minute - if too many people, especially teenagers and young kids start sitting around me - I'm out. The ticket counter for my refund.
4.) If I really, really want to see a movie, I will find the most upscale cinema. Price separates the rude assholes from people who want to have a great movie experience.
5.) This will only get worse. I do not like people anyway and I would rather wait and watch a movie at home with people I actually like.

When I went to go see Frozen 2 the family behind us the woman kept on explaining the whole movie 🎥 to the little kids next to her and me and my mom told her politely to be quiet and we shushed her but she still didn’t listen so during the whole movie I did not hardly get to enjoy it because the woman was constantly talking and it was annoying also when fans don’t respect the movie and keep on talking loudly during the whole movie. It was disappointing. 😭

I stopped going to the theater for about 6 years because of inconsiderate twats. During this time, cell phones became a thing. I went to a movie for the first time in a long, long time.... then I stopped for another couple years after that.
Two quick experiences. When I was about 15 (so the 80s), there were these two kids sitting in front of us, yapping and being annoying. I leaned in and said, "You wanna shut up?", and was met with a handful of popcorn and laughter. Their dad was sitting about 15 rows back, so they felt invincible. It kept up for another few minutes and I said, "Knock it off, or I"m kicking you in the head." One of the kids tossed a piece of popcorn back at me, so... I kicked him in the back of the head. He started crying, and they both got up and ran back to the dad. I looked back, expecting a shitstorm, but the dad went, "I told you, one day someone was going to hit you for acting out.. let's go.", grabbed the kid by the arm, and left the theater.
When I saw Evil Dead (2013), for I think the 3rd time, there were these 3 asshats behind us, yapping about the stupid hockey game, checking phone updates every 2min. I didn't say a word. I just turned and stared at them. One guy goes, "What?" I just said, "Just making sure I know what you look like, so I don't run over the wrong people in the parking lot." One of the guys laughed and I slowly turned back towards the screen. They shut up (for the most part), and after the movie, they started to leave and I said to my friend, "Go warm the car up, I'll keep and eye on these guys." I've never seen 3 people run out of a theater faster. haha
    People are the WORST!!

Went and saw The Avengers when it came out in theatres. Some actual idiot brought her baby to the film. A literal baby. And this is The Avengers, in a theatre, where the explosions were hard for MY ears to handle. The baby was crying the. whole. time. It got to that point in the movie where Loki is making a bunch of civilians kneel and one old guy is like nah, and I realized in that moment that I had no idea what was going on because the baby had been so distracting its screaming had just filled my head. Like a second after realizing this, there was a quiet moment in the movie and my dad shouted out (we were in the front of the theatre and the woman and her baby were in the very back and I could STILL hear it as if it was beside me) "No one is enjoying this, ESPECIALLY not the baby. Take it outside for its sake as well as ours" The lady did NOT leave. Baby kept crying. In the next 20 minutes that followed other people took my dad's lead (the theatre was packed) and continued shouting out for the baby to be removed. No one was rude, just firm. She eventually got up and left and I realized I had a killer headache.
It's my belief that if you're gonna have a baby, either you get a babysitter for it every time you want to go out, or you don't go out at all. You made the choice to have a kid, so deal with the fact that you won't be able to see public shows for 2-4 years.

I had that just tonight with M3GAN. It was a couple that brought their two little girls (that were probably like six), and they would NOT SHUT UP! They were kicking my seat behind me during the previews, and then they sat next to me, and during the opening scene, I could not hear anything that was going on in the movie because they were like “MOMMY?! WHERE’S DADDY?!” And then during the dog scene, they were like “the old lady’s looking for the dog, the little girl killed the dog!”, and at that point, I was done, so I gave up and walked out. I plan to try again and see the movie tomorrow, hopefully there won’t be any annoying little kids this time🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
