Id love to see him breakdown topo maps to read thermals. Id like to see how the spot at his house sets up for the buck to know anyone that comes in from normal access. Great show fellas.
He has a channel that has some hands on very in depth videos.
@@markhall1169 I will check it out. Thank you
What a champ! He's not lying about the aggressive whip rubs. Helped us find a good one this year.
Thermals are mentioned for the first time at 31:53.
Epic podcast really enjoyed this one
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching/listening
Sounds like you guys are at Camp Thunder VPA/ Flint river council wma in Georgia
Hydrangea? Maybe crepe Myrtle?
What about a north facing hub?
hopefully you guys are in the N Georgia mountains where it is cooler
Awesome
Is there any good books out there on thermals.
That’s a great question. We aren’t aware of one but if we find one we will bring in up on the show.
Thermals, to me, are so unpredictable, past the primary rules, that you really shouldn't focus on them to this degree. Follow the rise/fall/heating/cooling, thick vs clear, running water, etc. principles and then stop there because after that it's out of your hands. You can't move your stand every time you think the thermals change, and I don't think you'd benefit from it, given that bucks can be so unpredictable sometimes. Do the basics and then just hunt it and don't over think it trying to get everything perfectly right. Especially if you're hunting public land lol.

That would’ve been a wild drinking game 🤣🤣
This topic has been covered by different guests on the show for the last 5 years. This was one of the first video versions of an episode of the show on this topic though.
This video we released a few months ago shows visual examples of thermal hubs and a lot more. Let us know if it’s helpful.

Whip rub?
A whip rub is when a buck comes out of velvet they will typically rub small saplings to remove the velvet from their antlers. Even a mature buck will make whip rubs for a little bit before hitting larger trees.
Some thermals can’t be mastered. Anyone that hunts n the mountains can attest. You could have a good west wind temps cooling and the air is still carrying east to west. Just gotta get up high and hope for the best.
I’m a little disappointed in your podcast.not the content but the setting. Why would ethical hunters want to discuss a serious sport with the potential audience of young hunters while downing beer. Please consider how your. example might affect you audience. at least your guests respected the audience. I’m just one viewer but I spent more time noticing the gulps vs the discussion. You’ve lost me but please consider the rest of your followers.
Thank you for the feedback and listening to the show. How long have you been listening/watching the show for?
@@thesouthernoutdoorsmen I’ve just started watching some of your videos and podcast this hunting season. I believe outdoor sportsman should be examples to fellow sportsmen and especially the young future hunters. We live in a world where they are exposed to men dressing as women, actors promoting homosexual behavior and smoking weed etc. Where have the real men gone?
These are grown men sitting around drinking beer and talking about deer hunting. These are real men. If kids are watching these types of podcasts....I don't think you have to worry about those kids
Most of us wouldn't really consider that beer. 😉 Great show fellas...love the content!
