He’s one talented man even if he’s not 100% fluent in all of his languages the simple fact that he attempted to learn and successfully retained enough information to have a conversation with foreigners is amazing.
I speak English Spanish and Mandarin. I can communicate with the vast majority of people. What Moses does is beyond that, he learns languages that no one would ever have to learn just to talk to people in their mother tongues. This is a labour of love, you need to love learning languages, if you wanted to maximize utility you would learn three or four languages and then you can talk to almost everyone.

It’s shocking to most people if you see there reactions. It’s quite funny but also a really interesting observation of how people perceive a person until that person so happens to speak the same language.

Had to explain our slang "'sup?" to a foreign student in college. With the head nod and all.
He was confused with the questionality of the phrase and the head nod. He was like you just got here, why are you asking me what's upstairs?

@@perfumelovr I mean for the younger generation you only ask the question casually around mealtimes or ask if they had breakfast but it's more for meeting a friend or if you would actually be willing to eat with them at the moment. Like if its 4 pm and my friend sees me and asks if I ate that would be weird. It is actually mostly from the older generations as a way to greet their friends, neighbors, kids as it is a habit from the old times with widespread poverty and famine.
(Also if you really say no then they're supposed to invite you to eat but you should politely decline and not take them up on it, or else it's like pressuring your friend.)
I recently learned the Chinese greeting "Have you eaten?" comes from a pretty dark part in Chinese history. Essentially at a time when millions of Chinese were starving due to famine, the first thing you would ask someone when seeing them is "Have you eaten today"?

I think the coolest part about learning other languages is the reaction when you speak with native speakers. I picked up some Pashto from the gas station workers and they think it’s awesome that I can converse with them a little.
I was stationed in Germany so I know some german but conversation is a bit more difficult for me now cause I don’t get to practice as often. I still understand a lot though and talk with my German friends every now and again.
I would love to see you travel and enjoy these cultures ... Imagine practicing for a month straight then moving to another land would do for this man’s abilities.
