As a Serb, I always thought that his The Joker is his nickname because of our cards game called "tablici" where there is The Joker card that is basically a substitution for any card in that game. Its basically jack of all trades card which fits Jokic and his playstyle perfectly.
One of his team members couldn't pronounce his last name so that is where his Joker nickname came from. That story came from the Denver Nuggets organization.
It's because it's spelled similarly to Joker. There is literally no meaning behind any of it.
As a Serb I tell you that you might be wrong, the card game where Joker is a sub for any other card is called Rummy (Remi in Serbian), when you play the game "tablici" or Tablanette in English, you don't use the card Joker at all...
But yeah the point stands for the Jokic, he is the Joker (jack of all trades)

I can't explain how surreal all of this is for me since I'm from Serbia and was watching Jokić since he started playing for the basketball club KK Mega more then a decade ago. If somebody told me then that he would retire LeBron fuckin' James and become a Top15 player all time I would have laughed my ass off to that statement back in the day. It's like a big JOKE all together.

And if anyone would have told me that our country would produce such a star as Jokić is I would have laughed. Right now I am so proud of the man Jokić is and the way he promotes our country. Svetislav Pešić said - Jokić is a better man then he is as a player. That says a lot about him😊

One thing many fail to realize is that Jokic is one of the most physically fit players in the NBA (although he doesn’t really look like it 😅) He consistently outworks & outruns everyone that matches up against him and that wasn’t always the case.
