Paul Whitehouse is the best British comic actor of his generation by a country mile. There's an air of tragedy about him at the same time as he is making people laugh out loud, it makes him unique.
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT YE, AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL.

He's the type of English actor you put in a movie in a very benign way. You could even put him in an American movie as a Brit. I like to think of Benny Hill in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I used to love seeing so well-known British actors pop up in international films. Could be used well in a smaller Tarantino's movie LOL

I was totally thrilled when Paul started chatting to me in he bank one day, then as the bank teller asked him for ID - I said - 'he mustn't be a fan' and Paul just laughed and said 'you can't please call the people all the time '

I remember when my Aunty and Uncle visited me in 1998, they gave my Mom and Dad a VHS of The Fast Show Live and they didn't know I was a fan of The Fast Show which I first watched in 1997. They told us that they met Paul Whitehouse and said he was a really nice man. They told us that Paul Whitehouse told them about the Rowley Birkin sketches and he told them that the sketches weren't scripted and rehearsed and when they filmed them, Whitehouse in character would get shown a random image and he would make it all up right on the spot.
Fantastic comedy actor and writer. In fairness, Harry Enfield is a great comic actor too, but Whitehouse is something special.

i put him in the same boat as ronnie barker. not exactly the wittiest or most physically funny comedian but a brilliant actor with an inherent sense of whats funny and a thoroughly nice chap.

check him out as Martin the vicar in Bellamy's People E4 - BBCi player from 18'58 onwards, very funny.
This clip is great, the comic rapport is natural between O'Grady and Whitehouse, both from different entertainment backgrounds but capable here of good-natured interaction of a kind presumably impossible for some of the posters below, with their very narrow perception of what is and isn't 'humour'.

well put. he's not "only a comedian", he's also an actor of insane caliber. i mean, birkins lovestory in season 2? (i can link if you wish) i cant see the two oafs from "little britain" making anything that moving, let alone anyone else. (excluding black adders end, that was the previous one which suprised me)

Harry Enfield doing Prince Charles in "The Windsors" sounds like him.
i think you will find that now they call themselves harry and paul, they are very good friends and always have been. It was called harry enfield and chums before because there were a few other comedians such as Kathy Burke and Martin Clunes. Harry Enfield made the show and BBC developed it for him, Harry enfield is a absolute legend.

gave you a thumbs up there, love both of them but harry's sketches were always more structured. Both of these guys along with charlie higson defined british comedy in the 90's

i think they did. it had no laugh, just loud applause. they even gave THE moment time to sink in. imo, naturally.

@MadAsABoxaFrogs No shelf life, Fast Show is just AS funny now, whereas Little Britain isn't and wasn't all that first time around, a couple of sketches maybe, Lou & Andy and Vicki Pollard.

Ah damn , I have such a lack of respect for the industry that promotes horrendous reality shows , yet fails to truly recognise what a wealth of talent we have in the ranks of the character actors and comedians in this great country of ours . Perhaps if we were to fall over backwards to help them develop their careers it would be great ,then again though, perhaps they would become as spoilt as the stars they support , people like Johhny depp . So perhaps its for the best , look at how well he's self destructing in front of the spotlight . A man who's so spoilt and directionless , he's rushing headlong into oblivion .
