  • WATCH this VLOG series as we head on out to the southern ocean to fish for Southern Rock Lobster here in Tasmania.
    Onboard the commercial fishing vessel Chieftain a 17.5m/57ft steel Tasmanian built vessel now 23 years old run by a Cummins NT855
    Thank you everyone for liking and subscribing. We are new to this CZcams video stuff so its very rough, as you can expect things will get a lot smoother as this series progresses and into the future.
    Apologies for Audio quality I am slowly getting use to using the microphones.
    NOTE; Here is a current scenario:
    If I want to leave the wharf, with current prices
    Quota is $34 per kg I need 1500kg at minimum that's $51,000 out of pocket already.
    i now need Fuel which is $2.02 per liter i need 1500L = $3000
    i am at $54,000 still haven't left
    i best get some Bait for the pots $4 per kg i need 1500kg= $6000
    food for crew and i $800 -$1000 for up to 2 weeks
    now i can leave the wharf, I'm only $61,000 out of pocket.
    CRAYFISH PRICE on return of 2 weeks at sea $55 PER KG
    $55x1500kg = $82,500 take out my expenses before i left the wharf, I've got $21,500 left Lets not forget I haven't paid insurance, maintenance of vessel, repairs, lost or broken fishing gear, Bank repayments and superannuation.

    I like the size of your pots. much easier to handle than 4 foot 6 steels that we used to fish. Interested in how you attach the floats and what is the white plastic toggle at the pot rope end ? keep up the good work.

    Good video mate you take the p*** out of young locky ,mate hes a young bloke and he has been at sea for a number of days he probably took that long in the dunny because he was having a tamper . there is an old saying those who tamper and those that lie . Then hes got the boss banging on the door poor lad might have done himself a disservice . Only stirring locky hope you get home soon take care .

    Just wondering...how often do you do research pots? Ive never seen 2 in an episode before.

    • @Aussielobsterhunters
      @Aussielobsterhunters  Před 3 měsíci

      Every single time we put pots (52 pots twice per day)
      We put 2 research.
      We are only allowed 50 pots. But 2 research pots are allowed to count as 2 extra.

    With is the go with a bleeding 🦞

    • @Aussielobsterhunters
      @Aussielobsterhunters  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Well, sometimes they can be cut from other 🦞.. causing bleeding. We don't bother taking a risk with known bleeding lobsters. Don't need to cause a freezing issue.

    Hello my friend, I work with lobster fishing in Brazil. Is the company that buys yours not interested in buying it?
