  • Figurative artist, Edrian Thomidis shows how she makes a Chinese Crested dog in paper clay.
    A quick disclaimer: there is some background noise. I recorded the voice over outside while on vacation. I' probably should have waited until I could find a quiet spot, but I really wanted to get the video finished and posted. I hope it's not too distracting. If it is, just 'mute it' and watch the process! LOL!

    Thanks so much for sharing your work, it's lovely. I have a wire-hair terrier I been wanting to do, but he has a bit of hair, and I was stumped. But I like what you did with your little guy, and I'm inspired. He's getting older, and I avoid thinking of his loss. They are irreplaceable. Thanks 😊 again.

      I’m so glad you found this helpful! I have a few sculptures of my schnauzer and she is still with us! 😊 hair is difficult to represent with clay! Would love to know what you end up making!

    Ive just started doing this. Rule of doing it was not to go "ultra realistic" but me being so self critical of my work, i try and make it look exactly like the picture im copying from -.- im a pain in the ass. My mind tells me it looks shit if it doesnt look EXACTLY like the photo.

    That sure looks realistic to me! Have you ever done them with Apoxy Sculpt? I saw another video by someone who makes animals with that and it looks alot like ceramic clay!

    • @artsy-soul
      @artsy-soul  Před rokem +1

      No. I have played with epoxy, but there is quite a bit of sanding involved that usually does not get shown on videos to achieve a smooth surface. You also have limited time to work with the material as the drying process starts immediately after you mix the epoxy.

      I use different types of clay. For this specific project it was porcelain.

  • @Family_garden_farm_adventure

    If someone who didn't really have much clay working experience, but is a creative artsy person wanted to learn how to do this , where should they start?

    • @artsy-soul
      @artsy-soul  Před 2 lety

      I recommend you find your local Art Center and find out what type of beginner classes they offer.

    What kind of clay do you use? Also, when you fire it, do the wooden sticks inside just burn out of the clay?

    • @artsy-soul
      @artsy-soul  Před 5 lety +5

      Joni Menz I use paper clay on the video, but also use porcelain. If you use wooden sticks for support, etc, you need to remove them before the piece dries or you will get cracking when the clay dries since it shrinks as water it removed. Yes, the wood would burn out. However, I don’t recommend it. I hope that helps! :)

  • @treelore5100
    @treelore5100 Před 5 lety +3

    You put wood rods in the legs? and then you fire in a ceramic kiln? do you remove the wood? where did you buy the wood rods?

    • @artsy-soul
      @artsy-soul  Před 5 lety +3

      Tree Lore yes I do put wood rods. Although these are more like skewers so the wood is soft and seems to contract during the drying process. I normally would not leave them in because they can cause cracking since the clay contracts / shrinks while drying. I remove them once the legs are firm enough...
