Fun fact: The creator of Katamari, Keita Takahashi, was sternly opossed to making a sequel to the original game as he hated sequals in all media, viewing them as lazy and anti-art. He only agreed to do We Love Katamari after Namco told him bluntly they would make it with or without him. This is why the game's story is entirely themed around fan service, and much of the dialouge and item descriptions are much more cynically written.
Takahashi left Namco after We Love Katamari released and didn't make another game, Noby Noby Boy, until 4 years later.
Edit: If anybody reads this and goes "wow what a prentious idiot, can't believe he'd be so stupid." I'd highly reccomend looking up a EuroGamer article called "PlayDate, lethal playgrounds and goat boobs: the eccentricity of Keita Takahashi" and giving it a read, it'll give you a much greater understanding of where he's coming from. The man isn't a game deisnger, doesn't play video games, doesn't even really like video games at all. His passion has always been in just creating whatever bizarre art that comes to him, regardless of the medium. That's why his work encorporates everything from video games, sculptures, paintings, and even playgrounds.
It's amazing how despite his reluctance to even work on it this game manages to improve on the original in every way while still maintaining the integrity of the artistry put into the original by being a criticism of sequels.
He Gremlins 2'd it
Honestly I wished Keita Takahashi aren't opposed to making sequels.
His newer games after Katamari (Noby Noby Boy, Wattam, Crankin's Time Travel Adventure) still feel quirky, but they mostly feel like simple tech demos instead of being fully fleshed games.
But yeah, I get him as an artist
@@w21aaaaa I kind of get it. Theres so many sequels out there that just have no reason to exist other than the company wanted to continue to profit off the original. Hideo kojima was practically held hostage for nearly the entire metal gear series and continued it begrudgingly until he left konami. I dont think sequels are inherently bad its just that so many of them have no reason to exist.
that guy sounds like an ass. even if he did make a good game.
This game makes me unspeakably happy, and moreso that Vinny is playing it for the first time! Some of the best music in any game, ever. I remember learning most songs in the OST were all by artists considered one hit wonders or faded in popularity in Japan, so they were asked to contribute songs to provide a feeling of nostalgia to the game
Same here! Totally forgot this was even coming out. The second I saw this video in my feed, the biggest smile crept across my face.
The music puts me in such a chill mood I love it so much
Meanwhile chat was whining about how the music choice fell off hard from the first game to this💀💀
@@aturchomicz821 They were? All I saw in chatreplay was dancing emotes.
"Katamari Traumacy" doesn't have the right to be that good of a pun, Jesus.
I just watched that part and I died
and yet its better than that family of cube people
This game was so great, I found myself playing levels over and over just to see what new praise the King would give me for new high scores. True role playing.
Roll playing*
holy crap lois it's the wariolike OST guy
Oh wow, I didn't expect you to play this on launch. Then again, I've been waiting for it to leave the PS2 for years too, so I get it lol
This was the one I played a LOT, like a LOT as a kid. One of my most played ps2 games.
same, I had to always start the game from scratch because my memory card was a offbrand with 64mb, and for some reason this is one of the few games that doesn't save if you have more than 8.
Myself and my gf got one million red roses. Took months. Great times
It's great that they're remastering Katamari games, nothing quite like them in the industry. Soundtrack for the second game is my favorite too.
It sounds like a high pitched version of that fish getting force fed a carrot when he picks things up.
"Augh"
I cannot wait for Vinny to collect 1 million roses
ElNoSabe
Even I didn't do that on PS2 and I was a teen with nothing better to do.
OKAY
MISTER
SUNSHINE!
collecting all the cousins is more important than the presents save for one early on, there's an indicator in the top left when you go to a fan that shows how many of them there are, most of the levels require being replayed to get all the cousins in it.
I'm surprised the Reroll version of We Love Katamari didn't remove the scrolling text for pickups, the thing that makes it borderline impossible to read what you picked up if you pick up lots of stuff quickly.
They also left in the LOD cod from the og game so you know💀💀
@@aturchomicz821Fun fact! Its not the original code! Its actually worse!
The remake has a ton of issues and it dissapointed me greatly.
Thanks vinny for making me aware this was out. Best katamari game in the series and one of my all time favs on any console.
I didn't expect this bright colorful game to include a sad backstory.
Kuru Kuru Rock is basically Japanese Death Grips.
You mean Death Grips is basically American Kuru Kuru Rock.
@@zerazerazerazerazerazerazera…holy shit
Come to think of this, the king of all cosmos kinda looks like a gray alien.
But if he's the King of all Cosmos, wouldn't WE be the aliens?
why was vinny able to sustain a PERFECT elmo impression for a full line while being this tired
and other questions science still can’t answer
I love how right away he got so immersed in it that he forgot to read the text out loud, lmao. I love these games so much, hell yeah Katamari!!!!
With the remaster of We♥Katamari, I'm running out of reasons to hang on to my PS2
Hang on to it out of pure spite
What I like about this game, better than the first game, is that this one has FAR more variety in the levels/themes and what you are doing and what kinds of things you are rolling up, and etc.
"What languages do you speak"
"I speak a little English"
I feel that.
As a bloody Bri'ish wanker this was my first Katamari game. The sequel, which is all about how much people loved Katamari Damacy.
Vinny's refusal to use a dedicated first party controller instead of the "jack of all trades" 8-bitdo one that constantly has issues absolutely astonishes me.
I love this one more than the first game. The perfect sequel.
Vinny plays Katamari like the objective is to avoid rolling things up as much as possible.
Actually you DON'T have to "sign" the agreement to play the game. It literally says so at the end of the EULA. Lmao
Vinny is a professional gamer; he doesn’t have time to read
@@vroom0925 Well I can't blame him, as they have deliberately set it up in a way to make you agree. This is very similar to how websites try to trick you into accepting cookies.
I finished wlk reroll today, its very fun. Only issue is that namco for some reason pitched down the noises of humans when you roll them up.
It's because the screams were triggering The Prince's ptsd so they tried to deafen them to keep him from having a mental breakdown.
Not just humans but all the objects have the same pickup sounds and all have a lower pitch, really hope they can fix this in a patch later down the road
So many of the sound effects seem to be arbitrarily pitched up or down and it is just a little bit enraging
@@SonicPman I think it's a general bug because of how selective it is.. I cannot even play it much knowing this.. along with the draw distance bugs in the other larger levels when your a larger size.. it's kinda upsetting seeing these issues in such an overall good remake that includes both the original visual look and their new one same for its controls...
@@MrWolfSnack alot of the sounds in the games are either stock or just made specifically for the game cause there little motifs and references to the games music in the audio for radios and other electronics which are pitched down when they haven't been ever in any of the games
Katamari damashii
Yay :3
How appropriate for Pride
I can't wait for the next episode of this!
We love katamari was already my favorite game and i had to play it at 2/3rds speed because my computer couldn’t handle a PS2 emulator
Dood... I had NO idea this was out, and I've been waiting for this...
Katamari has such an imprint on my life- I'd always listen to the music while waiting on my shuttle buses back home during university- and back again- and in transit! Heck, I have a playlist dedicated to Katamari music that I play during the entire Holiday season. And all of this was before I'd even played the game once!
Vinny's playthrough of the original Katamari is probably the one I watch the most. Definitely looking forward to this one, dood.
So glad that we have a new katamari, that Vinny is playing!
The king always gave me nightmares when I was little for some reason, just scared the shit out of me...
One of the best games ever made :)
I love katamari on the swing so much
its only the first stream and i love the games story with the kings past way more than that family of three from before
Aw man I didn't realize this game was releasing right at the beginning of this month.
41:06 - This cutscene is too real.

My first Katamari game was We Love Katamari for the PS2. Hope you make this a series!
Played so much of this game on PS2 drunk with my best friend in highschool.
Co-op was so fun, the endgame is just plain stupid fun.
Now, pray tell, what would cousin Spagoolio look like?
damm, if katamari damacy ball is so sticky, it would have been 5 meters big if it rolls in my bedroom cause its messy with dust
yes we love
Finally it's on PC!
19:47 sigh the galaxy I wonder what’s out there in space
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🗣

Hey look Jotles favorite game to stream : ).
I adore this game, the music and levels were incredible and I'm always baffled by how underappreciated it is
I can't believe the Game Grumps beat Katamari Damacy twice --without ever touching this game- before beating We Love Katamari, lol totally forgot they played it
I'm pretty sure the grumps played we love katamari because I distinctly remember them playing the level where you roll up fireflies and the best song ever angel rain plays
@@leobarragan1098 oh damn, you right
riiiiiight, they did the one where they roll up the city but then failed to roll up the sun and quit there.
totally forgot about that. anyways, they should beat it and so should Binty
@@leobarragan1098 also no hate to Angel Rain because it's actually quality music, but I'm a huge fan of Everlasting Love, Blue Orb, Baby Universe, and DISCO PRINCE.
I used to leave the game running just to fall asleep to Blue Orb. I'm not biased >:L
@@brotusclips no that's valid and very nice choices. I'm biased towards angel rain because I learned it on guitar and it was pretty difficult
@@leobarragan1098 even the classical bit that transitions to the tempo change? that's very cool. forgot how much I missed this game and its music lol
I just want you to know I was not sober for that intro and it was glorious.
Cool beans
This is one of those games where I avoid watching streams and immediately rush to play it myself, happened with Noita and Bloodstained for me. Easy buy, though I do want it to run better with Proton first.
Congrats to Vin on the 1 million subs on Vinesauce channel, very much deserved.
Hearing Vinny say Ichigo filled me with dopamine.
Lil strawberry fella
Never played a Katamari game, always been meaning to get one. Should I grab this one, or the first?
Spakooblio is my favorite cousin too Vin
Was that tutorial song by chance in any wayn related to Spiral mouth, the band that did the soundtrack for Crash bandicoot Twinsanity...?
"What's happening?".
“I’m way to sober for this.”
- Vinny Vinesauce 2023
Well said.
We Love is so much better than Damacy that it's not even funny.
Don't get me wrong, Damacy is a good game, but We Love just blows it out of the water.
I'm probably a little bias since it was the first Katamari game I ever played too, (And as a result one of the first few games I remember playing) but even from a more subjective standpoint you cannot deny that there's a lot more variety and quality of life changes done to it even in the original release.
Why they didn't try to improve Damacy even further like what they did here with We Love I don't know, but either way I'm not complaining that things have improved in the better game.
Honestly the only other thing I wished they did was add in the remaining few new cousins from Me & My since they added its music through DLC, but that's just a nitpick to be fair. There's a few small bugs with sound as well that needs to be fixed.
Otherwise, this is a much needed remaster. It took too long to get between this and the last one, but better late than never I suppose.
Hopefully Namco can do more bigger stuff with Katamari again in the future, because they've seriously been underestimating just how beloved that series is with a long hiatus after Touch My.
I'd prefer to see an all new game now that incorporates all of the elements from the console and handheld games into one, but I don't mind seeing more remakes too if they can be done properly.
We Love Katamari is definitely in my top 10 or even top 5 games of all time for sure.
I'm glad to hear, I thought people didn't like the follow ups and I was disappointed that I wouldn't be playing any more Katamari but I will try out this one now :)
@@skelebungusWe Love is definitely a big improvement. Any of the problems you encounter in the first game is highly likely to have already been fixed here. It's all the other games that are kinda lacking, only introducing small features every once in awhile. I think the only other main game that genuinely tried to shake things up a bit was Katamari Forever, but it was basically just a "greatest hits" collection of levels from previous games. The online game from South Korea looked really promising, but it didn't last long at all and is at the moment completely lost to time, so it may as well not even be worth discussing for by much. I will say though that the few new cousin designs we see from it though are pretty neat, and that I hope they bring them back if they ever decide to make a new game with a roster bigger than the one found in Forever.
holy shit dude please use line breaks this is really hard to read
@@ZacharyDietze
But he's right though, it SEEMS long because the lack of line breaks.
@@atomickid Lack of attention and skill issue. (Jk)
In all seriousness I'm sorry you guys feel that way. I genuinely thought it wasn't that long. I edited it now if it helps.
So fucking happy we're probably getting a remake of every Katamari game, emulating them is fairly easy but the Xbox title is just really hard to do that with.
13:02
so he isnt turning right, he needs to push left up and right down to turn left not push both up and both down to turn, you have to learn to sharp turn in this game, its literal tank turns. full ^ and full v
Kinoko is best cousin!
@TheVilified Yeah Dipp is unique enough for me to enjoy. My favorites 10 are
Kinoko
Beyond
Shermin
Twinkle
Drive
Dangle
Kenta
Signolo
Pokkle
Jungle
I don't know why devs feel the need to have the "HOLD TO SKIP" or equivalent always visible, make it appear if you press a button... maybe someone would like to watch the cutscene without that on the screen.
All I'm saying is people who put music in PowerPoints deserve to be sent to the principal's office
I like how one chat member accuses Vinny of playing with a broken controller on purpose for the lulz. Like he's Arin Hansen or something.
Can someone sell me on playing this as a grown man with a job
3:15 random things*
*Small moan*
... There's not 4 or 5 Katamari games. There's like 15, what are y'all talking about.
Vibny please never stream mobile ads again and only play games with funny dev names
What is that weird button in the first section it shows to skip the cutscene? That's not anything I've seen on an xbox controller...
Tab key
Idk if this game's the same but I know the first game on steam had a weird thing for me where I was forced to use the keyboard for the tutorial and even after I manually switched to controller it still showed keyboard prompts. Might be something similar going on here.
I really love the game, but damn, why it runs so slow.
Cant get more than 15-20fps on a Steam Deck.
I know its a brand new game, its also not an heavy game.
Gyroids iz based
oof
This game works best with playstation controller not xbox 😅
Katamari at 60fps is cursed, I'm sorry
What’s more cursed are the ghosts in the hallways when going to the haunted school as the little King
The whole game cursed, if you really think about it
First lol
This isn't funny korok game wtf
Wtf am I watching... lol.
The sequel is infinitely better than the first game and actually worth picking up, unlike the first game.
@@rr53213rr "the first one is still pretty good" absolutely not
@@rr53213rr well i wouldn't go so far as to call it not worth it, but katamari 1 has a few issues katamari 2 ironed out, namely it is ridiculously easy to crash in that game, and it has a very common but that makes you stuck in a constant crash state, which makes you drop a LOT of items. It also has funny physics and its very hard to stop in that game.
@@MrWolfSnack they got something going on but as someone who used to score these for a hobby katamari 1 is arguably the worst game in the series. not nearly as bad as they describe it though and absolutely worth picking up if you havent played it
I love Katamari so much. I really hope they bring the rest of the games over to modern day consoles like they did with this game and 1. They're awesome!
