i own a 2014 crosstrec wilderness and I am fully impressed. I traded a 2017 jeep wrangler for it and have not looked back. I am impressed by my crosstrec it does everything my jeep did and at less of a cost to my sanity
Own this exact model and color of Crosstrek Wilderness and love it. The 2024 is much quieter than our previous 2021 Crosstrek Limited.

We got a 23 Forrester touring. It cost me about 150 bucks to put a little wireless charging pad and adapters in the cubby, it looks factory OEM and works amazing…problem solved. Love the physical controls on the HVAC and the 8” infotainment system is more intuitive than the large tablet. Oh and all glad I made that decision. We’ll see what the 2026 Forester wilderness hybrid looks like 😉.
Awesome idea! Where did you get it? I'm using a dongle for psuedo wireless carplay.
I just use a $10 charging cable LOL....none of that wireless charging nonsense needed.

I’ve had my 2024 Wilderness Forester now for about 1 1/2 months and I love it. I’m not out there racing of the start line, so I’m not seeing a problem with the power. No problems passing when I need it. Haven’t found anything about the vehicle I don’t like. The dogs love it and so do I! One thing I’ll complain about is the storage up front doesn’t hold a phone well. Cool/vented seats would have been nice (got used to that). I went with the 2024 over waiting for the 2025 because I like the three screen over the larger screen.

Probably. Not a fan of a tent where I’d be laying on the ground. I thought that I came up with the best idea, I almost bought a super high quality dome tent that was 85” tall, and 170” circumference (because I could sleep on a cot that’s off the ground), until I thought about the nightmare of cleaning and drying such a monster!!
@@JoeBuck-uc3bl If you plan to go boondocking, the big tent still does not work for me. Northern Nevada has mountain lions, bears, etc. I want to be inside of a metal protective framework. Also, if things get rough with two-legged animals then you can hop in the driver seat and take off.
@@H.pylori I’m always surprised that I never hear people talk about this, considering how many people talk about tenting. Because it always crosses my mind when people talk about tenting in mountain lion and bear areas. Like it almost makes me think that dangerous animals just don’t attack tents (outside of making the mistake of having food in your tent/bears). Unless the stories are out there and I just haven’t heard them (lion rips through a tent and kills someone in their sleep).
I will say that I would feel more comfortable in a rooftop tent than a ground tent. At least the animal would need to climb the ladder. I was eyeing up that Thule Approach tent at one point. I would also feel safer in that huge 85” tall dome tent as opposed to a 30 inch high tent where you can’t stand up. Although there might be no logic to that thinking lol, but in my mind I’m assuming that a huge tent might look more intimidating to a mountain lion.
Best comparison video I've seen. At 5'11" and you work with older adults, can you recommend the Forester to a fit but stiff 5'11" geezer in front seat comfort? Hip room, leg room, shoulder room?
Yeah, the Forester is incredibly comfortable, at least in my opinion. And I’ve driven a day trim level and seat material. But the grain of salt is seat comfort to your body type is subjective and most of my time in these vehicles is rather short compared to what real owners experience. Best of luck! 🙂

The Star-Tex fabric seems to be a good choice and is well supported by the Wilderness community. Twin Falls Subaru does a good job of featuring the Wilderness vehicles.
Star Tex is a plastic…don’t let marketing fool you.
I will say after owning it for over 2 years it’s holding up as well as anything else I’ve owned.
When I'm ready to buy, I may have to make the drive to Twin Falls to buy, they have them on the lot for about $2k less than the local dealers here in Western Idaho.

When I brought my 24 Crosstrek sport in to have a trailer hitch put on, they gave me an outback loaner, the outback felt more cramped to me in the front seat, with the higher center console, and too small phone cubby.
I had a 22 Forester Wilderness, traded it in for a 24 Outback Wilderness because of the turbo power and the car-like driving position Outback has.
IMO for 24+ Outback Wilderness, to save some $ you can skip the moonroof option since the Harmon Kardon sound system comes standard in this trim.
I'd imagine I would have to see if a dealer could special order a Forester without the moonroof as they seem to all have that too yuck. If I could order it without the over-priced stereo I'd do that too. Twin Falls Subaru is about $2k cheaper on their sticker price on the Forester than the local dealership I stopped at a couple weeks ago...they were $40k at the closest dealer I stopped at. But still out of my budget on the monthly payments they want. It'll be a while before I can afford one LOL.
My wife has a 24 crosstrek premium, we haul a few cats and our stuff back and forth from up north frequently. The crosstrek cargo capacity is a little small for that. The outback cargo room is closer to my lincoln awd mkx but I may go with the forester which is closer in size to my Mercury Mariner that I owned?
A Thule Cargo box for the roof will solve that.
I'm not sure how you're cargo capacity Limited with a couple/few cats and extras.
We're hauling around 2 male Boxer dogs that weight 170+ lbs total. And a suitcase or 2 .... thats just inside the vehicle. 🤔

I love the outback wilderness trim. It really makes the vehicle look so much better. I am a 38 year old male. I love to fly fish. Is this a good vehicle for me or should I at something else?
I definitely suggest you take one for a test drive to see how you feel behind the wheel. But I think it could be a great vehicle for you. 😎
outback wilderness is the OG hands down. it's the only one that's turboed. the rest of them feel so gutless.

Gutless? It has more HP than my 2005 Ford Taurus and the Taurus had plenty of power with 150HP from the 3.0L V6...and the Subaru is pushing more HP with a 4 cylinder without a Turbo so, I'm thinking the Forester would be fine for me. Subaru shows 182HP on the 2.5L 4 cylinder...so I'd think it would feel better coming from the Taurus with 150HP.
@@wildbill23c yep gutless, take both cars to an on ramp, the wife's '21 crosstrek is gutless compared to my '22 OBW.
Turbo doesn’t mean better. Owning a couple of turbo vehicles I learned they need to be driven a certain way (warmed up well). If you’re not driving a good distance/time you’re going to have problems with maint.
@@johnw9177 at the end of the day it's what the customer wants. if you don't want a turbo that's cool but I want one. the wife test drove the Crosstrek Wilderness and she said it felt the same as her 21 Crosstrek. so she didn't get it.
I would love to buy the 24 Outback, but I just can't with how all the controls are on one screen. Its not because of safety or preference, its how I don't trust the longevity. You could lose access to everything if that screen doesn't want to work. Then, you have to update it! What if you're past the 3 year subscription to star link? You can pay a dealership $85-100 or get the download from some person you hope isn't a hacker online!

I like subaru crosstrek wilderness
We currently own a 2018 Forester Premium we bought 6 years ago...we are looking at Wilderness models tomorrow. I'm thinking a few things. Do I really wish to or need to get a new car when the 18 still services us well. I put Falken Wild Peaks on it 3 years ago and it made such a difference. We tow a tear drop which weighs in loaded at 1300#. There's nothing wrong with "Jasmine", so it will have to be something spectacular to make us change. One thing that bothers me with the 18 is the lack of navigation...and the small screen. But, we make do. I have a 2015 Tacoma ext cab 4wd that we use as well. We llive in the midst of a state forest in the great north...terminal moraines...we have no problems
If you don’t mind report back what you think of the Wilderness! I’d be interested to hear your opinion. Also that sounds like a nice last year 2nd gen taco. I use to have a 2017 access cab. 😎
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 We pulled the trigger on the Forester Wilderness...2024. Last of this generation. Take delivery on 18 March. We like it, although it will take some learning all the bells and wishes. We like the navigation and the increased towing ability. We live in the woods and rarely take long road trips, but we are planning on doing the Lake Superior Circle Tour late spring/early summer.
I am looking for one information that I cannot get from my dealer, because they don't have any Wilderness in stock. My wife is short, and one of our main criteria is that the driver's line of sight should be high enough above the hood, after adjusting the driver's seat to its highest position. I would like to know, how much of a vertical difference in the driver's line of sight there is between the Forester Wilderness and the Outback Wilderness, after adjusting the respective seats to their highest positions. I know that the Forester is couple of inches taller than the Outback, but does that height difference translate to the driver's line of sight as well? We really want to get the Outback Wilderness, but those 2 inches of height difference could be significant in terms of forward visibility. Thanks.
The Forester had probably the best visibility of any CUV/SUV I’ve ever driven. The Outback is great, but the Forester is incredible! At least in my opinion and experiences. Best of luck to you guys! 🙂
Hmm, that Forester is almost $2,000 less than the Subaru dealer I stopped at a few weeks ago. Looks to be equipped the same too. Would be worth the drive over to Twin Falls for that one, if i could afford the payments....$600+ a month is ridiculous for a car....that's what I was paying on a new Tundra in 2008 LOL.
A few days ago I posted a video “car dealerships are out of control” and part of that video I walk around the Subaru dealer and show more of their inventory and window sticker pricing. If you actually do buy one from them that would be cool, they’re good people. But definitely do what’s right for you! Crazy, but I bet that was a sweet truck when that new gen of tundra were first coming out!
can you get a wilderness edition forester without the black stripe on the hood?
I’m assuming you could heat it up with a hair dryer and pull it off when the vehicle is brand new, but all Wilderness’s come with that from the factory.

They’re both good options! The 24 Foresters are no longer being assembled as the new gen is supposed to start showing up early July. I think the Outback has one more year of production before its new generation also comes out.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 does that mean that 24 forester is going to be “rare” or a pain to have since maintenance is going to be harder.
I personally think buying a 24 is a good idea. It’s the last year of the generation so most of the bugs have been worked out and it should be very reliable. And honestly almost every 2.5 boxer Subaru is the exact same underneath the body so maintenance is much easier on these than most other AWD CUVs.

What's the difference between the 23 and 24 Forester Wilderness?
As far as I know it’s just the typical slight price increase for the new year but they additionally lose the CD player on 2024 models. 😢 With discounts that can be more easily found on the 23’s I personally think that’s the way to go!
A bit confusing when it comes to the Forester. The 2024 models are the same as the 2023 models. [CD Player included] The all new Forester coming out next spring will be a 2025 model.
I haven’t seen an actual 2024 Forester Wilderness yet, but my understanding from the Premium and Sport I’ve already driven is they all lost the CD player for this new year. Subaru’s website also mentions that. Which I think is a bummer. 😢

Do you have any idea why Subaru doesn’t put a full size spare tire on their regular Outback and Forester? They have the room. I know All automotive manufacturers say it’s to cut down on weight, but I think it’s because they’re just being cheap.
What are your thoughts?
I also assume 100% being cheap, lol. I wish they offered a full size spare for say maybe $100 premium as an option. 🤷♂️🙂

Cost savings. Which makes no sense, because you aren't saving anything on the price LOL. I'd just buy a full size spare and put back there...supposedly there's room in all models for a full size spare, and for the AWD system I'd think it should be standard issue.....Jeep back in the 90's actually had a recall to provide a full size spare for the full time 4WD model Grand Cherokee's due to overheating issues caused by running their temporary spare tire it was causing differential overheating issues, so they were forced to replace the temporary spare with a full size spare....you'd think Subaru would have enough brains to provide a full size spare given they have an AWD system...unless they still have the pull the AWD fuse and run in FWD until the tire is fixed trick?
@@wildbill23c There’s enough room, but the automakers don’t put a big enough “well” to put a full sized tire in, unless it’s a Wilderness.
Heck, some automakers aren’t putting any spare tire in their vehicles anymore. They’re just giving the customer a spray can of Fix a Flat.
Suby's have an open differential so it doesn't matter if the tire sizes are mismatched@@wildbill23c
Forester definitely would be best camper for head room
Forester for the functionality and comfort, Crosstrek for the best look and probably best off road capabilities since it’s small. Don’t understand the Outback wagon platform, rather buy 4Runner, pilot or highlander which will have more room/comfort and more cargo capacity.
If Subaru made the Forester with a turbocharged engine which was in the Outback that would be the dream. However, I doubt that they would do that because that would drive the cost of it to be higher.
I'm hoping they keep the turbo out of the Forester, don't care for the turbocharged engine nonsense automakers are pushing on everyone. Less stuff to go wrong.

crosstrek and forester are complete no-go vehicles for me, due to lack of turbo, I spend most of my time in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, and these are the ideal states for Subaru. Except Subaru doesn't think people need to worry about 5000 to 8000 feet altitudes. The power loss in these states makes non-turbo subaru vehicles feel like shit boxes. CVTs are wishy washy uninspiring. Pretty much, the only thing that works for me (marginally) is the Outback Wilderness. It's turbo and improved final drive ratio, while making for poor gas mileage (which I don't care about), actually keeps the vehicle from being totally gutless and uninspiring (and unsafe) in the winter, at altitude.
Yeah that’s interesting, I just recently learned about that, how turbos do well at high elevations.

Yeah, some people do! And a few companies make fitted mattresses to these cars. Others even use open hatch tents, which seem like a neat idea. But you’d need to look into the carabiner needed on the hatch connect point so that you trick the Subaru to it thinking the hatch is closed and the battery doesn’t drain overnight.
It's pricey considering that it's not hybrid. Also, the hp is so 1980s for an off-road vehicle

I agree! I actually saw one yesterday that had an addition line of horizontal cladding maybe 2” tall about a foot above the regular wall of cladding. I’m assuming to guard against door dings, but it looked awful lol. 😔
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I owned a 2016 Crosstrek and last year I got a 2023 Crosstrek both of mine had and have the 6 spd manual .. but the power is lacking with the 2.0 .. I wish they would put the 6spd in one for me lol .. but I know no one wants them anymore ..
@@samstone7922 I wouldn't mind a manual transmission if they put one in the Forester Wilderness. Which is the car I'm looking at buying in the next couple years, once I get my finances straightened out again....if they offered a manual that's what I'd pick for sure....right now my daily driver is an 87 Ford Ranger with the 5 speed, I enjoy driving it.
That blue color is my Least favorite color.
A friend of mine has a Tacoma with paint that is close to the same color as on the Wilderness Subaru’s. It makes his 2022 Tacoma look old and boring, but he likes it so that’s all that matters.
I think when I get my Subaru it'll be white. Kind of like the looks of the white with the black cladding, and orange badging.

Every vehicle out there is about $20k=50k overpriced...and Subaru is selling them faster than they can keep up with demand in many areas....so apparently they're selling just fine, much better than many other brands that have prices that are double of what Subaru is asking, and with far less features and crummy AWD systems.
