I watch all your videos about off-roading, and am never disappointed; on the contrary, the quality of your output is consistently remarkable. Bravo, and thank you!
I sell Subaru’s and I’m very impressed with your honest review. I tell my customers to watch your videos!
They aren't your customers they are subarus. You are an unfortunate middle man. Don't take so much credit. Chill out.
Over an hour of content?! FUCKING YES PLEASE!!! 🙌🏽
I have a 22 WRX but looking to get a crosstrek wilderness for trip purposes and such. Definitely sold me on one. It’s good to see the car be put through its paces.
Thank you for the content!
I have about 1600 miles on my new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness, Loving it!
My 2013 Crosstrek was totalled in an accident on December 22nd. The safety of my 2013 Crosstrek saved my life, that is why I have a 2024 Crosstrek.
I hope grandma makes it to 100 and more. My grandma just passed away this past August at 99 years 4 months. Despite being like 4'9" tall, nobody ever messed with that little lady who grew up on a farm in South Dakota.
I would love to see a competition/comparison between the 3 wilderness models and would also love to hear your thoughts on which one you would buy and why.
A worthwhile hour. This channel's tests helped me to select my '21 Crosstrek hybrid, which is my best ever vehicle. Drove it 2000 miles in the last 10 days. It certainly is a pleasant highway drive with low fatigue. Aftermarket all-terrain tires help it on dirt roads and on grass which are part of many of my trips. The tires and a roof basket (to make up for loss of cargo space for the batteries) bring down mileage to around 30 mpg on 65 mph expressways.
Just took my Crosstrek Wilderness on its first adventure! Went to the Grand Canyon for a couple of days, started and ended the journey in Phoenix and I averaged around 27 mpg. Handles amazingly on the highway and on the forest dirt roads. Can't wait to take it on its next trip to Utah!
How fast were you driving?
I just got my 24 Crosstrek Wilderness this weekend and I'm dying for winter to end so I can take it on a trail. Love seeing how it handles on those super rocky trails.
I'm halfway through watching this, and enjoying every second of it!
The greatest compliment to this car is that after 1200 miles of driving, you're rolling over right into filming the hill test.
Wow, some harsh conditions your pushing through...and the Subaru handled it like a champ!
Hey, thanks for the content! I'm the owner of Subaru Legacy 2020 here in Ukraine. So it's very interesting to see those parts of the USA and Subaru performance!
Best automotive journalist out there. This video is yet another example of that.
I don’t watch CZcams videos this long. Except when Ryan makes one.
I watch these every time one comes out and I’m not even in the market for a new car. Lol
Getting the car tomorow, this 1h video is what i needed. Ryan, you deserve so much more views and subs, because you produce the best content!
Wich model did you get? I just recently bought the 2024 Crosstrek premium
Just finished lifting my '04 Forester. This is just the type of adventure I'm dying to go on!
I'm your subscriber! I also have a 04 Forester I'm modifying for off road adventure.
Ryan you are the cream of the crop of all automobile journalists! Thank you for bringing us with you in your awesome journey and showing the beautiful landscapes all while appreciating the capability of this Wilderness. You make me feel good about getting mine, I picked up my Geyser Blue last week! 😊 Looking forward to the next videos! Cheers from Canada.
Im glad you got to experience what the crosstrek is like at Utah Elevations. You can only imagine what the 2.0 felt like.
Hard pass. 😂
You could imagine what it would have been like to drive if the engine had CARBURATORS instead of computer-controlled fuel injection! 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
Makes me want to buy one and move out west, beautiful part of the country. Thanks for sharing!
I was thinking exactly the same thing!
If they turbo-charged these then I feel like it would fill the void left by the 'exciting days' of the WRX and become a new halo car for Subaru. It has the look and the off-road capability, but a turbo would give it the x-factor.
A base spec crosstrek with a manual and a turbo would sell like hotcakes. I'd easily take cloth seats and minimal features for that combo...they will never do it tho.
@@letsgo_inc unfortunately it seems rare to get a good engine in a basic trim these days.
@@letsgo_incbecause it doesn’t sell, what people say they will buy isn’t the same as what they buy, people who say “I’d never buy a brand new car” are the same ones who complain about what they want from a new car. Very very few people want a total base model car with 7000 dollar engine options
Congrats to this video! 76min of breathtaking drone shots and a drive through a spectacular scenery is worth every minute.🎉 And Subaru is very confident to lend you a car for several months and let you drive 1200miles with lots of offroad. And no problems whatsoever. Impressive!
OMG! A Subaru video over an hour. I'm going to have to watch and come back here with my thoughts 😀
Picking up mine tomorrow....loved this video...regretting the blue...but Ill get over it. Thanks for the great content.
I was thinking no way I can watch this whole video! WRONG!! Ryan you crush it man keep up the great content so entertaining. 👍🏻👍🏻 two thumbs up for this one!!
Absolutely love this long video/ adventure. I found my self enjoying this so much more rather than watching regular tv. It is just much more entertaining and relaxing. I have a 2023 Crosstrek Special Edition and I am so happy with its capabilities. They are just outstanding crossovers
I'm impressed with your impressions of this Crosstrek Wilderness 😊. Keep doing what you're doing, Ryan.
crosstrek probably more reliable than the compass.i would lean to the forester wilderness more cargo area which is important to me.
I just ordered a 2024 wilderness and then stumbled upon your video. Glad to hear you're liking it so much, really reinforces that I made the right choice! Great video and review. Thank you!
Can't wait for my kids to grow up so I can have this kind of freedom to do road trips solo again.
Heck yeah! Love when DSTV uploads, especially when it’s a Subaru! Always good content Ryan, thanks for making these for us.
I was bummed that you cut the drive between Missoula and Coeur d'Alene short. That is a gorgeous drive! (And moody weather seems to be the norm.) But bonus points for the 50,000 Silver Dollar Inn billboards. That climb out of the gorge is definitely a gas mileage killer in both directions. Glad you mentioned and showed the Gray Fire west of Spokane. I was driving out west to see family in Seattle when it closed down I-90 and they routed us out on hwy 2... and kept rerouting us enroute because the fire was such a wildcard. Coming back through 2 weeks later was insane.
As far as Subarus and how they do on highways, I've got a 2022 Forester Sport and the last two years on road trips, I barely creep over 30 mpg. In town mix of street and highway, I don't even make the city numbers. Previous to the Subaru, I've ALWAYS easily bested the EPA numbers on the sticker. Even on a Honda Element which is more of a brick than the Forester. (The mental gymnastics that I've seen forum members do to try to explain it away are more astounding then Simon Biles.) The gas mileage numbers on the Forester computer are always 1.5 mpg more than hand calculated. I love the Forester for road trips but these two things leave me a little disappointed. The winds across Kansas, Eastern Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Eastern Washington are brutal but I've done it in other cars without the drastic difference.
I have a 2019 with 327k. 1200 miles is a walk in the park for my trek! We just did a 4 day trip from east Texas to rhode island and back!
My 21 Crosstrek sport can go 500 miles on a single tank of 65 mph highways, the range and endurance of the crosstreks can’t be beat.
The Wilderness trim does seem to take a larger hit to MPG than I was expecting.
@@0HOON0I believe it’s due to increased tire rolling resistance and final drive gearing (ever so slight aero)
I would like to be that efficient but also cannot stand going 65 miles on an 8 hour trip.
Ryan,
I think your videos are absolutely fantastic! I can see why Subaru gives you long term loaners! You highlight almost all of the key features, performance, pros and cons in the vehicles class and price point, it is glorious. Can I make a suggestion? I notice that in your reviews, you don't often highlight audio system performance, this is important to many of us considering a daily driver, acoustic performance is also important! Keep doing what you are doing, PNW!
I’d rather it be in the forester, but I would definitely pay more for more power and a few more features on one. A hybrid might be nice if done right.
I love my 2017 Crosstrek. It hasn't taken me away from the highway like that, but it's done well be me, including an LA->Denver->and back drive which included snow. It's paid for and there's a lot of mileage left in it, but you're really tempting my with this Wilderness video.
Subaru really needs to put a front camera on all Wilderness models if not all of their cars with AWD. They could also put an altimeter on their cars that have GPS technology. It is just software my Garmin watch has an altimeter, and it doesn't cost anywhere near as much as a Subaru.
I had to use a Garmin to measure altitude throughout the trip.
@drivingsports
Not everyone has a Garmin watch, and people with Subarus are often in the mountains. My Outback has 4 or 5 compasses. They could put an altimeter where one of those compasses is.
They really should put a front camera on everything. We have one on our OB Onyx XT and used it off road, but it's also great for...parallel parking ;)
@markweaver1012
$200 phones have 3 cameras on them that don't get used, a $40,000 car should have 2 cameras on them that really could prevent the car from being damaged.
It's very disappointing that Subaru decided to dumb down the CTW by leaving off front approach camera, and full size spare. I've never had the former but with small spare it's only offroad "capable". It also, unfairly, marks the Crosstrek as something Forester & Outback owners are enjoying laughing at.
This might break a record for longest, most detailed car review. I have an alpine green on order coming to the high desert. Just a little nervous about power after coming from a turbo Fiesta ST.
Thank you Ryan for being the “go to reviewer“ for all things Subaru!!
👏👏👏
With all the positive things you’ve said about the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness goodness, it REALLY makes me look forward to the 2025 Forester and Outback redesigns!!
❤❤❤
Really enjoyed this video, did every day drives, with some adventures. We actually just purchased a 23 FW, and watched all your videos on it. Wish THE FW had a video like this one. Either way enjoy all your videos.
This thing needs 80s-style 4WD badges (and a manual). Thx for this trip thru the mountains! 👍
Have watched many of your videos especially since we live kinda in your neighborhood. We took delivery on Tuesday of our new crosstrek wilderness and this video just helped confirm our decision. Thanks for your content
Did a 1800 mile road trip with my 2023 crosstrek sport. From California coast to Kansas fort Riley near Missouri and I went thru every weather possible from snow to rain, mountains, blizzards etc
How did it do in the snow, in your opinion?
Hello, I think you need to do these long videos with all the new mid-size trucks there are coming out; I really like this video.
Excellent review, as usual. I just went off roading recently and after studying your review of the Wilderness, I feel the sport performs plenty enough equal to the Wilderness that I don't regret not waiting for the Wilderness. On another note, I discovered that hill descent control works just as effectively in reverse as it does going forward. Excellent feature indeed!
Really looking forward to how this performs in some crazy off roading snowy conditions. I could have watched this for a couple more hours. I love these wilderness editions from Subaru, would love to get any one of them. Amazing vehicle and drive. Well done indeed!
Awesome video! So glad you picked green because after watching I feel like I made the right choice when I ordered one :) altough I will say, the whole time watching this I kept thinking how much better it would look without those weird yellow accents lol gonna be looking for a blackout vinyl for them or some other solution asap. Please let us know if you hear about any being sold! Thank you can't wait for the next video!
Is it too much to say that you are living the dream. I am watching this video in the middle of the night and i dint skip a beat . And now i wanna buy a car which is not in my country, you did that good. Thank you. Living the dream. Cross country road trip. Dammmm
One hell of a video adventure/trip and I watched the whole thing! I have owned two Crosstrek's (2018 and 2019) and they were good for what I needed them for. This past summer, I bought a left over 2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the 3.2 V6 for around $34K. If I hadn't, right now I would highly consider the Crosstrek Wilderness....specially after your video! Again, fantastic adventure and a big Thanks for bringing us along! Cheers!
The Cherokee Trailhawk is great. So sad they’re going away.
@@drivingsports I agree! Same with the Challenger and others.
Some dealers are still selling new KL Trailhawks. Since you've had both, what do you think is the best option for light/medium offroading?
@@0HOON0 My Cherokee Trailhawk is a 2022 and I love it! I have 20+ acres and it's a lot of fun.
@@drivingsportswill this be good for a new driver so many dealerships guys told me they prefer this over the new Honda civic just because it have good safety features
Toyota Land Cruiser, Subaru Crosstrek Wildernes ,Subaru ForesterWildernesss, Subaru Outback Wildernes ,Subaru WRX lifted GTpackage, and a Mazda Miata = My (realistic) dream garage.
Also big fan of all your content
Loved this long format video. Great scenery and real world info on the vehicle. Wish you had the time to do more of the road trip type videos. Love your channel!
Utah is the best place on the planet. I miss it!
What a joy to watch Ryan! Have driven both that stretch of 15 and 90 many times. Also have relatives in Coeur d'Alene, drove through the Medical Lake area last week and have filled up at the Ritzville Chevron 😄. Oh, and used to live in Kingston!. Mine is SUPPOSED to come in this week, with trailer hitch installed and read to boondock! Can't wait for your off-road test!
Thanks for the hard work putting this video together. You sold me on getting one. Just need my local dealer to get one in silver, red, or the green you have here.
I went up Mona Pole Road recently. I’m impressed you made it. It wasn’t super technical, but that lower section is pretty steep, I was happy to have 4L.
Wow. What a amazing trip. Even with the gas mileage, tor me is very impressive. Just love that capable Subaru. 🤘
Hello from Missoula! Glad to see you stop by. Next time you're in town, check out Blue Mountain. My lifted Forester can barely make it up.
STABILE, BALANCED, CONFIDENCE INSPIRING.
AND THE CAR IS ALSO
Thanks for an hour plus road trip, it was fun hanging with you through your journey. I'm excited to see how it does on the new parts of the mountain test track.
The Subaru gang needs it own saying.... X-Mode kicked in, yo! :) Nice trip Ryan!
This is a great travelogue with the Subaru. They are a really interesting company, with many solid vehicles. Glad to see you loved yours so much, definitely opened my eyes to the CrossTrek.
i just bought a Subaru crosstrek and i'm impressed with it. I traded a 2017 jeep wrangler and a kawasaki w800 plus 10,000 cash for my new crosstrek and at 73 i'm thoroughly impressed
OH man I'm so excited. I was just internally complaining that we havent seen anything about the crosstek in a while, now we know why!!
Hello Ryan, I am a regular viewer of your content and am appreciative of the work that must go into them. I’m sure I’m not the only viewer however who would like to see the Sport and more standard Subaru Crosstrek, Forester and Outback models put through their paces. All of the US channels seem to focus exclusively on the “Wilderness” trim, especially when it comes to off road capability testing.
just a few weeks ago I took delivery of my own 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness in Alpine Green . what a beautiful car! . it was between Alpine Green & Geyser Blue; but if I’m honest with myself, there was no contest, it was always going to be the green
Yes! Thanks for the long version!😊
Great road/off-road review, Ryan. I look forward to updates during your possession of this Crosstrek. I own a '22 Forester Premium which I love. I thought about the Wilderness model, but my off-road driving does not warrant a Wilderness and I prefer the better MPG -- recently my highway MPG from Yosemite National Park to Los Angeles was 34 MPG and it was the same driving up to Yosemite.
Great video, Ryan. I loved the segment you had talking about braking/throttle and how they relate to weight transfer and rotation, especially on loose surfaces. Reminds me of when I was a kid teaching myself how to AWD drift on snow in my '03 Forester 5 speed manual, and figuring out that throttle put the weight on the rear and rotated it through corners. I loved how that Forester handled on snow/gravel as it was (I think, if I remember correctly) a 50-50 front-rear power split in those older model year manuals. It was just so predictable.
Also looking forward to seeing your tests of this Crosstrek Wilderness in the snow. This will also be the first Minnesota winter for my '23 Outback Wilderness, and your "adventure" videos were a big help in making my purchase! The snow/ice up here in Minnesota is no joke!
Thanks! This has been one of the most relaxing video! Absolutely awesome!
Jinba Ittai - when you don't need a front camera on your Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness because you feel that you are one with the vehicle
Oh yeah baby!!! Lovin' the color, Ryan!!
Great comprehensive review of the Crosstrek Wilderness. Got one coming soon and your video solidified my decision to buy it. Thanks!
One of your best videos ever. Great job
Excellent video, with fantastic production and editing that really enhance the beautiful scenery. Well done! Oh yeah, the Crosstrek Wilderness is pretty great, too. 🙂
Great video - answered all my questions - look forward to hearing more about the car in future videos !
I LOVE these videos! Please do more!!!
Great review. Loved the on and off road driving, it really gives an all-around sense of what you'll get if you were to own one. Thanks.
Nice Ryan, more of these please. Breathtaking...
Just got back from YNP to Eugene OR. Mine is a 23 limited. Enjoyed the drive both ways. Hit all kinds of weather. 80 - 85 mph it did fine. In YNP went over 8000 pass plus on some non-pavement. I have Falken Wildpeak tires. All good. A bit noisy at higher speeds but OK.
I love this production. Excellent content and story telling. I felt like I went on long drive with a friend who kept it interesting.
I love this long haul video Ryan. It is so cool that Subaru is lending you this for so long! Utterly fantastic views. I would love to do this trip in my 2023 Crosstrek PHEV!
Love your channel! One of the reasons I got my Subaru, I am taking my 23 Crosstrek Premium on a road trip from Long Beach Ca to Utah to snowboard! Can’t wait for the trip and this video just made me 10x more excited!!
Epic video; thanks! I bought a Forester Wilderness after watching your videos. It hasn’t disappointed me!
Ryan I was just on vacation in western Washington and thought of you! Definitely beautiful there, but idk how you guys survive the rainy season hahaha!
People take a lot of Vitamin D here.
This is the longest test drive I've ever seen. Love this vid!
Love your road trip videos. Bought our 2021 Subey Outback Onyx based on your Seattle to SF trip.
And the wife and I placed our order for a '22 Outback Limited XT after I watched Ryan's trip in that Onyx - it sealed the deal. Took delivery in early July '21 - absolutely no regrets. With all of the cars. trucks and vans we've owned (20+) since we've been married, it's the first time that I ever remember my wife saying, "You know, I really like this car".
Love the spirit of this video. Just hitting the greater northwestern highways into the rockies and desert and going.
Great video - awesome quality and very informative as always.
i watch your subaru outback road trip many times, love it...always enjoying your road trip video..
Excellent content, thank you.! Subscribed.
Great video as always! Really makes me miss living in Washington.
This info video is so useful for us to consider buying this vehicle. Where planning to buy our new 1st car here at Canada. Tnx! What a 1hr video eating with a popcorn with a snowy storm outside😂
Outstanding Video! It totally demonstrates the capabilities of the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness.
Thanks so much! I especially enjoyed that you spent time driving on the same roads I drive. I'm not sure whether I've driven on that exact road above Mona, but I have driven many of the trails around Nebo. I'm quite sure I've been through that high meadow where you turned acound. But I've done them in my older Forester which only has 7.5 inches of ground clearance. But at least I have a full size spare, and I've damaged a tire couple of times on roads like that and had to drive out on the spare. The lack of a full sized spare is one of the major issues that concerns me about the Crosstrek Wilderness.
Excellent video and it's really selling me on the Crosstrek Wilderness. The Outback Wilderness is another nice option, but both look great!
Great Video!! in NC we can drive on many of the beaches. Quite a few of the beaches have loose sand but I get the impression the Subaru would very well in that environment as well.
Great showcase on the Crosstrek Wilderness. Lot to think about...
This is such a great video. Love your content!
I watched this entire wonderful entertaining and informative video! Great job!
