Not a Patriots fan, but he'll always be my favorite Patriots player, because he represents the best of my favorite thing about the NFL: the player with a huge chip on his shoulder who, by dumb NFL standards, shouldn't be playing on his favorite position. Have a great retirement Julian, you still are a great inspiration for a lot of people.

I don’t think Eli Manning was good but at least his career stats at the end match up with some of the all-time great’s.( I recognize it’s only because he played 7000 years, he’s not an all time great) but statistically Edelman has nothing like literally nothing. Except your wrong, when the games are most important in the playoffs edelmans stats is in conversation and second only to jerry rice, then adding a SB mvp some of the most iconic playoff monents of the decade makes him a lock. Besides his production in the regular season is generally unserrated when hes been healthy he gets 80-100 catches and 1k yards. Hes almost certainly not first ballot but without doubt will end up in the hof

I think this is one of the few times that Colin genuinely changed my mind on something. Edelman may not be a first ballot Hall of Famer but definitely second or third. I don’t know if you can tell the NFL story without him.

I'll never forgot in superbowl vs Seattle on 3rd & 14 late Q4, down 10 Edelman caught it over the middle & Kam Chancellor absolutely killed him & he somehow stayed up & ran for another 5-10 yards. He was clearly hurt. He scored the game winning TD 10 minutes later.
Edelman was always all heart. Makes me sad that his last couple seasons were thrown away because his body couldn’t handle it anymore.

Love the take Colin. Edelman was just about as clutch as it gets. He left his mark on the last 3 Super Bowls the Patriots have. People assume the HOF is pure stats. To tell the story of football in the 2010s the HoF will need play after play by Julian Edelman. So many of biggest, toughest, most clutch plays of the decade came from him on the biggest stages. Is this not what the Hall of Fame is for? Give this man his due. He's earned it.
Jules perfectly embodies the patriot way. He represents everything great about our team: hardworking, scrappy, smart, and reliable. He sacrificed his body and his fame for the team's success and I'll always love him
Wes Welker played on the Patriots, was a hard worker, went Undrafted, made big catches in games that mattered, was a all pro, pro bowler he should be in the hall of fame

Colin’s argument is about team achievements. The HOF is about individual accomplishments. Rice is in the HOF because of his playoff greatness *and* his regular season dominance.

Ask yourself how hard you argued for Deion Branch or Wes Welker to be in the Hall of Fame when they retired.

A players impact should not be tied solely to their numbers, and in fact, they are not. That's why TO wasn't a first ballot receiver... because he was a muppet. Impact matters over numbers, and without him, they weren't winning half of the big games that they won with him.

Colin this was lovely. Your comparison of Calvin and Jules sold me. Jules is a legend in New England. His number was called in all the biggest games. It was a privilege to watch him play and cheer him on.
I have seen 100s of your videos, you context and the sound of your voice stands out from the rest but this video cements the real reason why I listen to you don't know if you write your speeches or what but great words.
In the Super Bowl against the Rams (When Edelman won the MVP) he was double covered the entire game and yet was still somehow wide open at all times. He caught 10 balls. for 141 yards that game.
If you really know football and you watched Edelman play, he should be a hall of famer. If Terrell Davis is a hall of famer then he should be as well. Like TD his career stats in the regular aren’t great but TD is the greatest playoff running back in NFL history and it’s not even close. Edelman is the 2nd greatest playoff wr in history. That’s HUGE and in my book that counts as something.
Football and baseball are 2 vastly different sports. But I guess the question I have to ask is what are supposed to do in a losing situation? Quit? Ask for a trade? Be loyal? It's easy to say he's a Hall of Famer when the TEAM won. Calvin Johnson played for the Lions and as a Vikings fan, they've never been good (kinda like the Browns until recently). So what's more difficult, playing when there is "nothing" to play for on a losing team or playing for a winning team with something to play for?
He certainly had moments that will live on forever in NFL history. A hard fought career and a true winner.

Edelman was clutch. Consistently clutch. Not 1st ballot but this man was a beast and part of some significant NFL historic moments.
I thought Colin’s own criteria was “top 5 at your position for two contracts” and I don’t think Edelman is that.
Still a great and clutch player who deserves a ton of respect, don’t get me wrong.
Name a better slot receiver in the NFL since 2012. Between Wes and Julian, they basically created a new position in the NFL.

The 2013 and 2014 super bowls showed you why Julian is loved.
2013 Broncos had better receivers but were soft and got bullied in prime time.

Crazy how in MLB if you take PEDS you are out of the game yet in NFL you failed a PED test ,suspended the same year and not only do he get to play the SB you can win the MVP and not a mention once on PEDS by any sportscaster:D

@udYi Q Right, but you are sort of missing the point... The way we see value and success can and should sometimes be different than stats, Pro-Bowls (which is debatably of no value), or All-pro. Name a WR that was more important to his team while winning 3 chips?? Not many on that list above Edelman. I don't know if he is worthy of the HOF but this case for it if he does get in.

As much as I think Eli was average, career wise he has pretty good stats. Now trust me I really don’t wanna defend Eli Manning he was average to below average quarterback. But his career stats are ok and of course he had two of the most memorable playoff runs in NFL history.
Personally I don’t think he is, but that’s how it works.
Almost all of Edelman's bigtime, clutch catches came in comeback wins. Colin talking like New England always lead in big games when in reality they came back quite alot.
He’s talking about leading in the regular season making his stats look worse. His big plays in comebacks were mostly in the playoffs.

Edelman is what a nfl player should be. A hard working dedicated to his craft. Always on and off the field was a humble and trustworthy man. He should be a first ballot hall of fame. It was awesome to see him play his game.

Colins said his own standards for the hall are that the player had to be top 5 at his position for 2 contracts. Julian Edeleman was never a top 5 reciever in the league.
