- Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman announced his retirement in a video shared on social media Monday evening.
"Nothing in my career has ever come easy and, no surprise, this isn't going to be easy either," Edelman said in his retirement video. "I've always said I'm going to go until the wheels come off, and they finally have fallen off.
"It was a hard decision, but the right decision for me and my family -- and I'm honored and so proud to be retiring a Patriot," he added.
The announcement came after the Patriots terminated Edelman's contract following a failed physical.

Without a doubt, he gave everything he had to give. The kind of guy that drives others to championships. Was fearless which makes me glad he’s walking away now. Though Patriot nation will miss him, he will never be forgotten.

My personal opinion about Julian Edelman. From 1 to 10, and 10 being the highest. Football player - 9.5.
Julian adapted to the offense/defense positions, wide receiver & corner back excellent. Special teams - kick off & punt returns - excellent. Good Job
