    Check Kaoss Replay and if you don't want a live performance DJ sampler look at a few beat maker alternatives below:

    The main difference between Kaoss Replay and below samplers is that they are more production focused. You can make beats from scratch on them, whereas the Replay isn't ideal for this.

      Respectfully, when looking at the feedback, the audience doesn’t really know what this device is. Fantastic demo of the machine, but the comment section is a little clueless as to what gap this machine fills and who its competitors are.
      This is more like the djs than any of those devices, but bedroom producers wouldn’t really know that.
      Good device, Korg just chose the wrong influencers to market the product. Not because you didn’t do an amazing job, but because your audience falls more in the music production realm than the live performance realm.

    My honest opinion is that the newer mpc line has better sampling capabilities, plus legit soft synths, plus more IO, etc, etc. They also have some insanely great effects, that can be controlled on a touch screen including an xy interface. If you are looking at this, I would at least check out the mpc live which you can get second hand for $5-600 right now.

      I agree. Form factor and large screen are great. Isn't it interesting that more and more companies are effectively releasing unfinished products (or products with potential as you put it) into the market and letting the consumer response dictate where to take the final firmware. I don't think it is any surprise that this is happening more and more. For example, the Push 3 (which was basically unusable for the first 4-6 weeks post launch), the Polyend Play which was good but has kept getting better and better etc etc

They came out with the Wavestate SE, at $2 700 CAN, two to three times more than a Wavestate! Then, this at $ 999 US, which translate to $ 1 399 CAN ? Sorry, Korg, your marketing department is completely incompetent, and disconnected from the reality of consumers. They need to be fired OR send them on a trip where they can see how simple folk like me are making music. At $ 1 399, I can buy two Roland SP404MKII. A lot of negative talk about this unit but i believe it may be a game changer in areas most groove boxes falls short at sounding profesional once mastered. For starters most groove boxes suck at transitioning and properly timing effects so they sound profesional. The fact you can control the depth of the effects is important, the imidiate looping at at a stroke definitely plays an important part as well..

    Either it should be an RMX-1000 replacement OR a Toraiz SP-16 replacement. But ultimately fails at both. If it was an effects unit with multi I/O then this would be interesting. I think it should have tried to tackle just being one thing and nailed that instead of a multi function printer that really isnt a great printer, scanner, copier, or fax machine.
    Maybe there is hope with software updates, but that is never a great option for consumers.

    Bo, please get to know to the midi capabilities of the Replay. You got the Circuit sequencer next to the Replay. You don't need a sequencer in Replay as it is a triggerable sampler and the hot cues are triggerable behind CC too. Don't be lazy, I encourage to read the manual and midi charts.
    I find that many reviewers have missed the purpose of this equipment. Which are sampling, effect sampling and platform for triggering samples. Not sequencing and arranging in key or scales.
    Replay would work particularly well with Squarp Hapax for example.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Yepp you are correct, it can trigger samples externally from another source. But I don’t think a 1300 usd sampler with a big beautiful screen should be without a sequencer. Much like the Sp404 mk2 which didnt have a sequencer at launch, but when we complained about it got added in which was amazing! You have also missed the point of the device. While you can trigger samples from a midi device it is designed as a self contained device. Korg even markets it as such. Thats why I don’t review it as a sample playback ”module” like the 1010music Tangerine. On the Tangerine a sequencer is a bonus, on the chaos it is important. Because what the Kaoss allows you to do as a sample module is not anything spectacular. You don’t even get poly sample playback per pad or chromatic playback like you do on the SP. So as a module to be sequenced by an external sequencer it is… very pointless. And it is not designed to be used that way primarely.

    I'm not sure how much they pay their marketing team to determine their prices, but the recent Drumlogue was definitely a bit of a stretch in price, especially when it was competing with the TR8s.
    The two faders are awesome, but it's no Pioneer. I come from dj'ing since around 99/00, and I haven't found much gear to stimulate me enough to use it more than using my laptop/ipad to create music (except Roland gear), but this definitely intrigues me.
    However, just because it has a touch screen doesn't mean they've earned the right to more than double the cost of the Roland 404. I had considered trying a used kaoss pad, but even at those low prices it doesn't entice me enough.
    At this price it seems like they assume that this will be a centerpiece... or that someone will rely heavily on these effects during a live setup. Not allowing samples per pad is a bit odd.
    I do like it when Bo recognizes the 119 bpm versus the 120 bpm and says, "I don't know who's to blame there." Part of me feels as if he's also taking a jab at their overall audacity, as well. My opinion, of course. Cool tunes btw, Bo. Thank you 🤙

      @BoBeats  Před 7 měsíci +3

      Glad you enjoyed the vid! It was a difficult video to make as I strive to explain gear ’as it is’ and not focus to much on ’what it is not’. The intent of the Kaoss is not to be a production focused device. But I do feel there’s improvements needed for it to justify the high price tag. Just like with the Drumlogue. Its a good comparison you made.
      Btw speaking price tag the build quality is far superior to the SP404 so I recon that alone accounts for some of the price difference. But then again the SP is a remarkably well priced product. Its like the MPC One. Hard to beat at the price!

    Hi Bo and respective viewers alike, I was thinking recently, that the music that we know and love from the 90’s and 2000’s etc (‘The Golden Era’) and even more recent are, for a big part, made up of SAMPLES. I was looking at a vinyl record I have the other day (it’s the same on the CD version) and it was listing all the Samples used in their tracks. The way it worked Before, I’m guessing, is that the record label did the sample clearing process, so the artist was left to the creative process. So even though i went to ‘music production college’ and did a few full year courses, I don’t have a clue in the process of clearing samples etc or how to get the the permission to avoid copyright or whatever, so I feel I am left limited in my options and in the creative use of sampling. It’s BS to me that artists should be expected to know the ins and outs of music business, the creative process and time it takes plus the learning of methods of production and of using the equipment is more than a full time job entails, as you are very well aware, but this is maby venturing off into another point. Would be cool to hear your opinion re: the sampling clearing process, if this is something you have delt with or come across this aspect much? Any feedback welcome.

      @@BoBeats try it like this: put in a drum loop sample, set the trigger pad to loop mode and configure a loop that is half the size of the drum loop you loaded. Set a cue point on the beginning of the loop, set a second cue point half in the file at the end point of your configured loop. What happens if you switch between the cue points. Cue 1 should play the first half of the drum loop, cue 2 should play the second halt of the sample.
      The next question is, does the switching of the cues quantize like in Traktor. Ah damn. I'd really like to fiddle around with that box, but I don't think i have the influencer oomph that korg would send me one.
      Thing is, this might fit exactly into my live act setup. Fun fact, i use pre produced loops and abuse Traktor as a loop player for my base beats, the musical layers on top of those i add using the Octatrack and a complicated routing that puts both stereo channels Octa and Traktor through a little stage box that lets me side chain duck the Octa channel with the Traktor Beats. I really hate fiddling with sequencers on stage, so Traktor was the logical way out i concluded at the end. That little box could in theory replace it, but i need to do more research on that.

    what I have been looking for is a device which i can put end of chain as an insert fx on my mixer, into which i have my synths and mpc running (which does mainly clocking duties and percussion). I am a DJ, so I wanted to create live and on the fly and build up the beat, then once it's rolling record in 16 bars into a looper, which i can do fx on. Meanwhile building a another basic track in the background which I can then cross fade to at the right moment. but it would need a split cue on it... and that sampler really needs quantize to be able to pull things together properly. any ideas if this is a possible on the Kaoss?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I am hesitant to say that you could do this. In my video in the overview section you can see me record a live beat from Circuit tracks onto a sample slot, then fade from live input to the sampled loop. The problem is that it just doesn't seem to perfectly sync. And I can't say for sure WHY this is. If its the Circuits clock that is unstable, or some other reason. Thats why in the video I say that i don't dare call it a live looper. If they manage to fix this sort of beat quantization or sync then it would indeed work reasonably well for the use case you ask about. But in my testing its like 95% there, but those last 5% needed for it to work like that is really important to have beats line up in sync.

      The DJS-1000 or Toraiz SP-16 is significantly more useable in live performance than this is. The Korg isn't really a sampler or looper or sequencer. Everything has to be set up prior.

Marketologists look what pips post on youtube groops and see a lot of finger drummers playing one bar loops that they made. Korg decided to make a machine that's easier to use that MPC. I bet more than 50 % of MPC users don't use MPC's full potency. Pips just throw melody loops and one shots from Splice and finger drum with them. This unit is perfect for this too. With a good marketing this unit will be able to become#1 finger drumming performance tool.
