    So now as it is Dec. 2023, I went with Small Rig attachments to my cage for handle, swivel adapter for monitor, and side handle with magnetic allen key slot. I went with the JLwin cage instead as it looked nearly same as SmallRig and just as strong but its bottom screw has flat screwdriver slot and also allen key slot in middle. Thanks for a great review. I liked the idea of monitor on handle which I had not thought of until your video. Great idea. The mini follow focus available are now smaller in design from Small Rig.

      set up like this and a gimbal are two completely different things. I still use gimbal when I need to add motion to my shots. This is only great for bulking up the camera to remove micro jitters from hand held shots but makes it all very heavy for shooting longer periods of time

    Thanks for this. I've returned to your video several times, taking ideas from it for my rig, regarding SmallRig components (They're in transit as I write). I also have the Røde Wireless Go system (which I recently reviewed and demonstrated making a location kit), so the one thing I forgot was an extra cold shoe. Just ordered that. I'll mount it onto the Ninja V cage I decided to buy ... just for extra protection. Looking forward to testing it all. I think the top handle will really help with shooting low viewpoints.

    that wooden handle is nice, would also work as a cheap substitute on the new hasselblad
    907 x camera, which is very thin, this is of course excluding the new c f v ii 50 digital back which fits it; especially if you were not interested in the extra controls the o.e.m. control grip offers, the wood finish would complement the cameras' finish nicely.

    When you plug a microphone.
    Into the camera, it still feeds the sound to the ninja. So you can use that for scratch audio and then still plug your wireless into the ninja. It would be the analog meters on your ninja.That your mic would be feeding you're wireless will be the line/mic meters

    Hi, I also have a Zed 6. Recently bought a SmallRig cage like yours on eBay. Sourced from them in China. It showed up minus the small bottom retaining screw. I contacted them, complimented them on their delivery and the great price that I got. And mentioned the screw wasn't in the package. They immediately sent me a pictogram of the unit with the red circle around the missing part which I confirmed. That was late last week, I was pleasantly shocked (yesterday which was Monday) to get a FedEx package from them with the missing screw. I have never had customer service to this degree in my whole life! All of their pieces are exquisite, modular and affordable. I bought the small side handle like you did, just using the strap on the other side. I'll probably get a NATO rail handle, but right now just using that mount point for my f6 FeelWorld screen with the same flexible screen ARRI connector. I did want to get a cage to protect the screen, but they don't make piece yet. A competitor does for $40. I am very happy with the quality level, completely thought out layout and ergonomics of the cage and accessories. Was pleasantly surprised to see your post with most of my pieces there. You can't go wrong with this setup, it's one incredibly flexible rig.

    Thank you! There is an issue - this cage isn't available anymore. I guess it's diescontinued. Smallrig offers 2 different cages for z6ii at this moment. I'm currently learning about rigs and since I have z6ii I'll probably go with Smallrig 2824.

    • @NoWheelDrive
      @NoWheelDrive Před 2 lety +1

      And I totally agree about overall height of the rig when the external monitor is attached to the top handle. Please tell why you prefer to record on the Ninja instead of recording internally? I think external monitor is definitely a great addition. Currently I'm also looking at Atomos Shinobi which doesn't allow to record into itself but can be used as an external monitor. Again thank you for this video!

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před 2 lety +2

      cage 2926 fits both Z6 and Z6II.
      I use Ninja V with Nikon because this is the only way to record in N-Log with Z6, also I use Sony and Lumix cameras sometimes on the same job and I can record to the same SSD when swapping from one camera to another, this way I have all the files from one shoot on the same SSD.
      Also the Apple ProRes format is much easier to edit on the mac.

    • @NoWheelDrive
      @NoWheelDrive Před 2 lety

      @@PavSZ Thank you! Makes sense about N-log. As for me I don't film my videos in raw format. And so far I only used Z6ii with OBS Studio at home. I'm not happy with my phone video quality, thus I want to switch to z6ii when I shoot cars. That's why I need a nice and not too expensive rig for more stability and accessories though z6ii has internal stabilization. So since I'll start with recording internally on the camera I'm not sure i I need an external display. I like the fact external display is much bigger than integrated one. I may buy it later, but not sure if I really need Ninja. Maybe I'll find a used one on eBay of FB Marketplace.
      PS: I see with 2926 you still need to remove strap triangle mounts from the camera. I think I'll go with 2824 instead.

    Thank you so much for sharing your setup, Pav! :-D I set up my rig similar to your setup, but am struggling with the fan noise of the Ninja V. Did you get rid of the noise by moving the microphone that bit to the side and using a deadcat? - Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you! :-)

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for watching!
      I don't usually use Rode mic to record crucial audio with on the rig but I find that I get the best results by having the monitor always slightly behind the mic (it will be naturally when both are mounted on the cage/handle like in my video). Rode video mic pro is very directional and it will always pick more sound from in front of it than the side. My Ninja V is not particularly loud anyway.
      Dead cat would make zero difference with the fan noise anyway.

    I just realized my recently purchased Smallrig 2824 cage doesn't have 3/8" hole, just 6 identicaly 1/4" holes. I'm trying to figure out how to secure the baseplate to this 2824 cage in order to prevent cage from rotating on the baseplate. I see Smallrig sells many baseplates with 2 screws - 1/4 and 3/8. It would be perfect in your case, but in my case I can't use 3/8" screw. I'm going to order a baseplate soon. I hope I'll find a way to securely attach it to my Smallrig 2824 cage...

    Thank you for excellent instructional video. Question for you. You mentioned that you can not connect Rode external mic to Z6 body and wireless mic to Ninja both at the same time. Did I get that right or am I mistaken? Can you not have both audios recorded at the same time, the audio on Ninja will be in its own separate channel and audio from connected mic will be embedded with HDMI output is it not? Can you please explain .... perhaps I am not understanding this right. Thanks for your time. Regards.

    First of all you can record the nikon audio and the atomos audio at the same time there are four chanels of audio in the atomos .
    And in the box from the z6 there is a plastic peace theat screws in the other hole not the hdmi one without removing the rubber peaces and its recomended to be put on if you are using hdmi cables so you won't damage the camera especially on a gimbal

      It is OK especially if the Ninja V is behind the front of the mic. Pre-amps of Ninja V are much better than the camera's. All my audio on my video on my channel is recorder directly to Ninja V

    Hi, when using Ninja, is it possible to shoot 4k 60 fps in 10 bit or more?

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před 3 lety +1

      Ninja V can only record what camera is giving it, so if the camera can do 4k 60fps in 10bit over HDMI than the answer is yes

      @@PavSZ Thanks. Apparently it maxes out at 8 bit when filming in 4k 60 fps. Would it be possible for Nikon to enable 10 bit in 4k 60 fps via a firmware update? Not sure if Nikon has ever done something like that.

    Hi. I've just got my Ninja V (in addition to Z6) and I was quite disappointed by a huuuge HDMI delay when shooting 24/25/30 fps. It's tremendous, about 9 frames (!), which makes hard to focus or follow even slowly moving objects. Ofc I can shoot in 50/60fps, the delay'll be still 9 frames, but in terms of seconds it'll be twice shorter, however Z6 doesn't shoot 4k in 60fps. So I have to choice either 4k or 60fps. Is there any workaround with this issue?

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před 3 lety +1

      I have the same problem since I got my Z6 - nobody ever talks about it but apparently that's how it is with Z6 and Ninja V. Really strange as it was a first camera offering RAW and it was bundles with Ninja V (still is!).
      I have tried all kinds of cables from cheap to the most expensive that I could buy - no difference. I don't think there is a fix for this. I'd love to know if Z6II is still suffering from that problem.
      No other cameras that I have or have reviewed have any delay what so ever - just Z6 😕

      @@PavSZ Thanks. I thought maybe I do something wrong, because really, no one talks about this issue. By the way, are you just used to this delay, so it is ok for you now? Or it'll annoy one forever? :D

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před 3 lety +1

      @@archonoff I just got used to it ... as much as I can.
      I'm lucky as I also use Sony cameras - if it is too much to handle with Z6, I'll switch to Sony.
      To add to it. The delay only shows during preview - there is no audio delay in the recordings (9fr delay). However when using Z6 as a webcam that delay shows to anyone on the other side :( very annoying

      You also need good gears on the lens. i use gears from Zhiyun gimbal follow focus - they are a little bit tighter.
