This was a great video. I currently own a D750 which I primarily use for photography. I recently purchased the Z6 for it's videography capabilities and it hasn't disappoint me. This camera is a great video camera. I love the fact that I can see everything that's displayed on the monitor in the view finder. Nikon really stepped up their game and represented well with the Z series!! I know my camera 10x better than I did before watching this video. Thank you man

By no means ever in my life have I thought about photography. I’ve never owned a camera. After exhausting myself about week and doing a lot of discovery I found the Nikon Z6. Was eyeballing the Z7 but I didn’t think I needed that “much” camera. I’m supper excited to have purchase a new Z6 today , you’ve helped my convictions to make the purchase. I searched for tips and tricks for Nikon Z6 because I’m fairly new to photography and I recently just bought this camera. I was planning on watching a few short videos. This video popped up and I clicked on it. I didn’t even see how long it was. I sat and watched the entire video in one sitting. What an incredible video for noobies such as myself who simply just want to know all about the camera. This was incredibly well made. There was plenty of humor that I loved. Awesome job man.

Thanks for the comprehensive guide you've made for the rest of us. I am not new to photography but I am new to Nikon Z6, and after one hour watching to your video I was able to go out and shoot confidently for the entire day. Thanks.
One small remark, if I may. It is about the uncompressed RAW vs lossless compressed. The thing is that the modern processors are way faster than even the fastest memory cards. This means that the processor will be able to compress the entire 30MB file and make it, 5 to 10MB smaller, quicker than it would take for the memory card to save the extra 5 to 10MB. Yes, it is a hardly measurable difference when shooting a single photo, but it can become more prominent when shooting series of dozens of photos. Than the compressed RAW is clearly the winner regarding the time it takes to empty the buffer.
The obvious drawback is that such a compression cost a lot of processing power and this is less energy efficient.
Just something to be aware of when choosing between the compressed and uncompressed RAW the true choice lies between the more responsive and more energy-efficient setting

Bought a $2000 Z6 camera and it comes without a user manual which has to be downloaded onto a phone or laptop! Your video was the better option to familiarize myself to the Z6 in my hand. I just spent about four hours watching the video (stop/start/backup/practice/take Excedrin...) and it was worth every minute! Thank you for taking me through this awesome piece of technology. This camera is a far cry from my 1970 Minolta SRT 101 and even my Nikon F4s and D70s.

Thanks for the settings file. I couldn't get my camera to recognise it and then found on Ken Rockwell's site that you have to set your Z6 to P, S, A or M mode on the top dial first. Then worked.

Great video review of settings. I've had my Z6 for about 6 months now, and have been digging in further to get more out of the advanced settings on the camera. Good comprehensive review of all of the settings, I picked up some hidden nuggets here,especially the review of the screen icons. Lots of options for changing settings I wasn't taking advantage of.
I did note one misleading item: Under Photo Shooting Menu > NEF (RAW) recording, you said to select Uncompressed because compression on your files is bad. Actually Lossless Compressed is the preferred setting as lossless is, well lossless, meaning no image degradation to the file. Lossless compression is like a zip file. The technique cuts the size of the file by up to half but doesn't affect the underlying data. Lossy compression is not a good as data is lost, but using Uncompressed will slow writes and reads from your card and increase potential storage requirements by up to half.
I am totally new to cameras. I appreciate your detailed instructions. I subscribed two minutes into the video.

However, you will want to set the "Release Button to use dial" (f6 menu) This option set to on means you won't have to "HOLD" the ISO button while turning the front or back wheel ;-)

Unless this already exists, I really would love for you to do an Atomos Ninja V guide video, possibly with this specific camera. I got the Z6 with an Atomos Ninja because of the 10-bit video and future RAW video capability. I am sure a lot of people will be getting these two together. It was a bit intimidating to learn at first with all the settings, connections, and new file types such as prores. Great stuff, keep it up!

43:28 My understanding of option b4 is that if you know your camera tends to under expose or over expose by a given amount (let's say 1/3 of a stop, despite what your meter is staying) this lets you adjust the default exposure so it will always under/over expose by a set amount (at least, that's how it was explained to me). Think of it like AF fine-tune for DSLR lenses. Some Fuji cameras have this issue, for example, where they may under expose by 1/3 of a stop despite the light meter saying the exposure is correct. I haven't found a need to use it on my Z cameras as I'd rather just adjust my exposure to compensate for light loss due to light transmission loss in a lens. Normally I just eyeball it and if it looks a tad undersposed, I just apply some exposure comp and retake the shot if possible.
Great video, many thanks for doing this. Love your sense of humor. I have just two questions: I noticed you shoot in sRGB and not Adobe RGB. Do you feel the extra gradations of color are not worth capturing or because all our web stuff uses sRGB it just makes more sense to shoot in that mode? My other question is about RAW recording. I use RAW with lossless compression as I think it can get you a longer burst, and if the camera can do it quickly and the post-processing software can uncompress without losing anything I don't know why you wouldn't use that option.

Amongst others cameras, I use a D800 thinking of changing to mirrorless after 40 years self employed in photography.
I suffer with severe arthritis and I'm now struggling holding the heavy DSLR's with flash attached and a 70-200mm zoom.
Hope the Z6 is a lot lighter?

Almost bought the R6 because my friend switched to Canon and the R6 is soo good but I ended up switching to Nikon and buying the Z 6ll and oh man am I happy I am a greedy son of a beep. The Z 6ll is soo much better than the R6, I LOVE this camera! Anyway, to anyone weighing down choices and deciding between the R6 and Z6ll, definitely go with the Z6ll!

Btw, the ISO settings is a lot more than just setting the ISO, it's also about automatic ISO according to the shutter speed!! I don't understand why you skipped it.

Just purchased the the Z6 (replacing my D610) so far I love it, especially with the 50mm 1.2. I’m having trouble getting my speed lite to work while in manual mode. I have the YN560 iv, It works in auto mode but everything is blown out. Desperately need help.
