I remember talking to my two buddies in grade school that Friday about the upcoming Super Bowl game and how we all planned to watch it. I watched it on a state of the art 19 inch Hitachi television. My dad bought it in 1977 and it lasted until 1992.

I remember being in a JCPenney store the following weekend. A recording of this game was playing on a VCR they had on sale.
So glad for Hacksaw Reynolds that he finally won a Super Bowl after so many years of playoff disappointment.

Boy does this bring back memories. I haven't seen this footage since it originally aired. I was nine years old at the time and this was first Super Bowl I had watched from beginning to end. Still remember that goal line stand like it was yesterday.

We’re the same age but in the NFCCG, I was telling my older bros to not celebrate yet as all DAL had to do was kick a FG to win it. Thankfully Lawrence Pillers (???) had a strip sack of White. Don’t remember who recovered the ball (was it Jim Stuckey?)

Around 3:55, it shows the progression of this 49er team in record from 1978 to 81. Nobody thought this team would be in Pontiac at the end of the season. If I was a predictor, I would have had them at 8-8 or 9-7 at best that year.
However, getting two guys on defense really accelerated this program: ILB Hacksaw Reynolds and edge rusher Fred Dean. Hacksaw wasn't a great player, but he provided veteran leadership and stability. And, Dean provided them with an elite pass rush presence that they sorely lacked. If they don't get those two, I don't think they win in 1981.

Starting at 4:48 I remember this exchange between Dwight Clark and Eddie DeBartolo from an opposite, much closer angle on various NFL Films highlight shows, particularly the '81 Niners' "America's Game" show and "Dwight Clark: A Football LIfe":
    DC: You're the world champ!
    ED: YOU are!
DC: YOU are! You are the world f'ing champ! WOOOOO!
Then Randy Cross replies with a joyful "NO!" when DeBartolo asks him, "Did you ever doubt it?"
Needless tosay, I watch WAY too many NFL Films highlight shows.

@@davevolskysbackdoor5673 Sadly, neither the camera operator nor the... sound guy, I guess?... appear to be Steve Sabol. I'm guessing he had more of a front-office job at NFL Films by then.
Also, Sabol never rocked a 'stache quite like those two.

I was a 49er fan from the late 60's to the early 1970's, but left them to become a Charger Fan in the late 70's. As a young boy of 10, I was in tears when the 49ers lost to the Cowboys in the 1970 NFC Championship. The subsequent losses in the 71 and 72 playoffs were also traumatic. However, when the 49ers won SB XVI, I was happy for them. The middle years of the 70's were just awful for that franchise. I don't follow any NFL team, now, because the NFL has become a joke. Mediocrity is the order of the day.

I was cheering for the Bengals (not a fan of either team) but was shocked when that came on at the end. Not sure if it was the first time a music-montage happened with a pop song (NFL films used different composed music I believe) but it was before the whole "going to Disneyland" crap which started a few years later.

If I were to attempt to upload it would be blocked for viewing because it's already on the NFL's CZcams channel. Definitely check it out there because it is in fantastic shape and I don't think I'd be able to improve on it even if I could upload.

In another situation with the family: Eddie's father [Edward, Sr.] was denied ownership of the Chicago White Sox baseball franchise due to suspicious links he may have had with underworld figures.

Years later when A&E Biography did a profile about Joe Montana, no mention of Cass during that hour-long show; where they made it appear that Jennifer the only wife Joe ever had.
