    • @mayonnaiseee14
      @mayonnaiseee14 Před 22 dny +683

      To be fair though, in Homer's "The Odyssey", this "Siren Penelope" didn't happen. When Ody and the crew were about to sail where the sirens were, the crew just used beeswax to cover their ears so that they wouldn't hear the sirens' songs. (For context, if a person heard the song of a siren, they would be hypnotized and jump from the boat to the water.) Odysseus, on the other hand, still wanted to hear their voices, so no beeswax for him and he asked to be tied up to one of the masts of the ship so he couldn't jump to the water. You can imagine him trying to get out of the rope until they got out of that place lol
      In addition, Scylla's lair is just huge a rock, which means they were just on open seas and not in a cave-like place just like how Epic portrays it. The path they had to travel to was between Scylla and Charybdis- which we would only see in Epic after Odysseus gets out of Calypso's Island. When the crew were planning how to get between the two monsters, Scylla attacked of the crew, so everyone just tried to get past them as fast as possible so that no one else can get eaten. So yeah, there were no sirens captured to begin with and Odysseus did not really willingly sacrificed his men :DD
      There's a lot more inconsistencies between this part in The Odyssey and this whole Thunder Saga (like Odysseus really was not given the chance to choose who lives and who dies. Zeus struck their ship and Ody just miraculously survives).
      But who cares? Epic is on a whole 'nother level. I wouldn't mind more inconsistencies from the original poem; the songs are so incredible😭🙏🏻

    • @smittywerbenjagermanjensen9281
      @smittywerbenjagermanjensen9281 Před 22 dny +269

      I feel like most if not all inconsistencies make the message of EPIC stronger, I mean I cannot tell you how surprised I was when I realized the Ody had to choose to kill his own men rather than just holding on rlly tight to a keel that shit hurt and also made him way more ruthless but mostly it hurt and I’m sad now

    • @anthonymarchetta8796
      @anthonymarchetta8796 Před 22 dny +194

      @@mayonnaiseee14Actually, this is one thing Jorge DID get from the Odyssey - sacrificing six men I mean.
      Now Odysseus didn't hand out torches like he does here, but he DOES know that Scylla will kill six people and he DOES refuse to tell the crew because...well, why would you? They have no choice but to go through Scylla anyway, why upset them first?
      It's not presented as a moral dilemma and he doesn't hand out torches but he does know six people will die and hide it from the crew.

    I love how the sirens were getting annoyed and angry. In a too serious way, I have been wondering why the sirens didn't think anything was wrong when Odysus was evading their song for almost 3 minutes. This means they were just too full of themselves to think something was wrong or that sailors before we able to hold off the lure of the siren song for some time before succumbing to it.

    • @mediathenetrunner1674
      @mediathenetrunner1674 Před 21 dnem +32

      It might also be because sirens were depicted as wind/water sprits that punished unfaithful men. Maybe they thought he wqs just loyal and nervous?

    • @estrellaescobar5723
      @estrellaescobar5723 Před 21 dnem +36

      Well, there are two explanations: The voice of the sirens is not an absolute power, it only accentuates their seduction/persuasion. But a dialogue must occur between them and their victim. So some may take more or less time to be dissuaded depending on their willpower.
      The other option is that they rely heavily on imitating the shape of loved ones to convince victims to listen to them. And they achieve the latter by first spying and using the information learned to make their dialogues more convincing.

    Absolutely adore your art style here, and your depiction of “Penelope” is great, idk if this was on purpose but in some frames her hair forms the silhouette of snakes which I find as a really interesting way to hint at her deceit and overall the ways you visualize things (Scylla’s silhouette overlapping with “Penelope”, showing a flash of the waves and storms sent by Poseidon as well as Poseidon, the other Sirens on the rock, Odysseus’s “daughter”, and the facial expressions) just elevates an already amazing song

    of the few Suffering animatics i've seen so far, i noticed some people make it so 'Penelope' has stuff like obvious fins and a fish tail and/or they make it too obvious that Odysseus is tricking them. but like, that's giving the game away. this is the first animatic(so far) I've seen that's NOT doing that, and I love it for that.
    cause for this song, you have to be a little subtle, at least through the first parts of it. you need to confuse the audience a bit. since its genuinely some good misdirection here, having more obvious hints of the Siren's trap, but those obvious hints hide the way more subtle hints of Odysseus' trap. given how secret these two songs were before they were released, its clear that as the song starts the audience is intended to not know immediately this is the encounter with the Sirens, but they'll be able to tell 'Panelope' is a trap if they're paying attention(or know the original story), but are then taken by surprise by the start of Different Beast and by Odysseus actually being the one trapping them instead of falling for it. there's layers to it. you don't want to make all obvious from the start.
