    I learned this the hard way with my fan... The fan only had 2 broken blades so I figured it's fine.. but it caused a chain reaction: nozzle clog (need nozzles which I was the only spares I had) > silicon socks (totally sticky/covered in molten plastic) > molten plastic went up to the thermistor and cause it to behave weirdly, destroyed my heatsink too because the plastic went into the groves and was impossible to clean out totally. Basically, I had to swap out the whole thing, but I didn't have spares on hand. Had to wait 2 weeks for shipment from china 😭 Now I keep a whole hotend set spare and a few spares of the cheap stuff lol.

    Another thing to keep spares on hand of with relation to the bowden tube are the compression fittings they slot into. The teeth that grip the tube can break off causing your bowden tube to wobble or even fall out of the extruder.

    howdy friend! glad to see you are still posting even with the current events and "exile". Hope you and your family are doing fine whilst waiting for the situation to get better. Stay safe!
    I myself have a lot of spare parts, but I have one broken down printer (a locally built one) and another one (an Anycubic Mega X) that was giving me some issues which sorta made it unusable (not counting the resin printer which is standing for months). I didn´t work on it because I was not in the mood to do so, so I was without printing for the last four months.
    Recently (in fact it´s not finished yet, I´m waiting for the DSI cable for the new screen) I totally rebuilt the Anycubic´s electronics. Converted it to 24V (used a Kobra Plus print bed which was a perfect fit, and now I can go beyond 95C on the bed, I tested it up to 120C and it works), put on a direct drive (Biqu H2S Revo), replaced all the electronics (new board is a Manta M8P with a BTT CB1, they were stashed for a Voron build I never started and that´s why I used such an advanced board on the Mega X) , redone all the wiring, etcetera. And now it´s running Klipper (it was before, but it was a basic configuration on the stock Trigorilla board with nothing more than a CRTouch added, now it´s properly tuned,. along with z-tilt and other features). It´s not faster than stock in printing speed (the kinematics can´t handle higher speeds, specially the big 300x300bed, its sweet spot is 35mm/s) but it´s tuned like a charm, getting perfect first layers and layer adhesion now. The new screen ? I already printed and assembled the mount, all it takes to put it in is the new DSI cable, which should arrive tomorrow. The fun fact is while I was rebuilding the printer, I was printing parts for it as well as each step went, so I tuned it and changed some stuff while I noticed it was necessary (for example, heatsinks on the CB1 weren´t enough, it required a fan, we´re getting near 40C ambient temp here in Brasília and the CB1 was overheating).
    Having that finished, I´ll start the project on the second one, which is a Brazilian-manufactured coreXY (Sethi3D Farm) which cost me a lot of money and gave me so much trouble that I actually considered throwing it in the bin. But the success on rebuilding the Anycubic gave me hope that I can make that work again (and get rid of some of the "alternative" solutions the manufacturer opted to do on the wiring). However, that will require more work, a new PSU, a new bed heater (it uses AC heating but I´m not confident enough to work with that, specially considering that I´ll make an external enclosure for all the electronics) . I think now I´m in the mood for 3D print rebuilding LOL. This will be a project that will take some time. I don´t plan on filming it because I´m terrible at documenting technical work. I might consider also going to 24V (even though I have two spare 12V PSUs laying around) just because it´s easier for me to source Revo heaters in 24V (can order from Bigtreetech which charges less from shipping than E3D) than in 12V (which the cheapest shipping for me is purchasing directly from E3D). It will also require designing (by myself) a proper BLTouch/CRTouch mount as it uses a weird ABL system with a nail mounted into a optical endswitch which I also intend to get rid of .
    And the resin printer, I just ordered an (expensive) new screen (it´s a 8.9), it was working "partially" (I used the half of the screen that worked), now (yesterday) it decided to have its Z axis stop moving. 🤣 Man, I still haven´t got the hang of resin after an year, and I had a lot of trouble (including a catastrophic failure caused by a ruptured FEP sheet which required a lot of replacement parts, including mainboard and touch screen panel), I still don´t see myself working on resin on the long run, it´s too messy for my taste. I pretty much used resin only to make replacement parts for the FDM printer (and a shifter knob for my vintage Beetle), I´m kinda regretting buying a big resin printer (a LD006). After repairing it I might just sell my whole resin setup and stick to FDM which I´m more comfortable working with.
    By the way, even when using a quick-swap like a Revo I still recommend having spare nozzles. Accidents do happen (like some errors that make the nozzle crash into printed parts or the print bed, which tend to BEND the Revo nozzlebreak inutilizing it, believe me, I know, I lost a brand new Obxidian 0.6 that way) so it´s best to have spares. And, by the way, the Revo clones found all around in Chinese sites are garbage, they dillate with high temperatures (they aren´t even suitable for PLA) and the nozzle releases itself from the heatbreak, so for Revo nozzlebreaks, stick with original E3D ones.

    Excellent! I already have a few nozzles on hand, but I think I should definitely get some spare thermistors and heater cartridges and silicone socks, as I use one of those crappy glass bead thermistors with incredibly fragile glass wires, however I have not damaged the thermistor even after a year of nozzle changes, and occasional hot end disassemblies. Fans seem plausible, but complete hotends are not practical for me, because the heatsink of my Neptune 3 attaches solidly to the strain gauge ABL system, which has a "proprietary" mounting pattern and I haven't seen spare heatsinks. But I think this is a helpful video either way. Also, I just noticed your end credits include Josef Prusa as one of the Patreon supporters - interesting...

    • @lajoyalobos2009
      @lajoyalobos2009 Před 7 měsíci

      One of the best upgrades I got was E3D'S thermistor, which clips on and off for easy replacement. I used to have the glass bead as well but I always had issues with it jumping out every time I so much as looked at it. It finally got eaten by the molten filament blob monster and I didn't have a spare on hand (like I should have) so I figured if I'm going to order one, it may as well be worth it. I did find out later there were some similar thermistors to the glass beads except they thread into the retaining screw hole. Might be worth looking into.

    Have a spare entire extruder for both high and low temperature filaments. In fact I have two for each - why? Well I hate swapping nozzles, and even using different plastics is easier with a dedicated extruder. I have also done my own modifications to some of them (fans, nozzle mod, and part cooling fan outlet) for particular filaments I only have the one 3D printer a Qidi X-Plus, so heavy handed on the spares is easier if you only have the one machine. I also have multiple print surfaces of various types.

  • @SianaGearz
    @SianaGearz Před 7 měsíci

    Heater cartridge crimp connection to the wire it's on is definitely a wear part. I have had the crimp become undone after quite so many heating and cooling cycles, and i'm not trusting that whole connection again since the surfaces are likely to be oxidised, i'm not re-crimping it, just put a new heater cartridge in there.
    I don't personally use a silicone sock, i just dress the heater cartridge in Kapton tape, but it depends on the construction of the unit whether you want to do that, and silicone does have its advantages, as it's non-stick and can offer some nozzle protection.
    Extruder gear is another consumable part, especially on printers where it's brass. Actually if you have a plastic extruder lever, buy a cheap alu extruder for $4 right away and just have it at hand.
    Bearings should be considered consumable. They should normally last a long time but one or two might just give up earlier than expected. When a stepper motor seizes up, that's bearing failure, and these are 625 type you can just replace them yourself. Don't worry, the sub $10 stepper motors from China are not precision assembled devices, they are self-aligning, they experience so much shaft warpage and bearing play in real 3D printer use that the alignment is effectively bad anyway, all the precision bits are pre-aligned and epoxied together, as long as you put in the parts in the same orientation and order as you found them during disassembly, just pay attention, it'll work like new.
    I hope you settle in well in these trying times and hey being in EU has its advantages! 3 day shipping from Germany and Netherlands typical, frictionless shopping EU wide.

    Hello, I'm extremely new to the exciting and intimidating world of 3D printing. So new in fact that my first 3D printer, the Creality Ender V3 SE, is due to arrive in the mail in Just a few days. I originally purchased this printer to make miscellaneous car parts and accessories for my truck as the aftermarket support for my particular vehicle is either next to none or all together way too expensive. But, I recently had the idea of making a pair of crystal clear tail light lenses, but have way too many questions with too few answers. Is there any way you could do a detailed video going over everything from setting up and printer setting to post processing techniques that yield the best results for crystal clear lenses?

    As a USA resident I kind of live in my own bubble, and wrongly assume unless told otherwise the people I watch on CZcams have their entire universe in the USA as well. I am just wondering why the Israel attack is affecting you as such? Regardless I hope you and your family are doing well.

      In some community posts, he mentioned that he and his family live in Tel Aviv. I believe they were in close proximity to the attacks.

      I moved to Israel at 26 - too old to serve.
      My wife served, but her unit (equipment training) doesn't do reserves b/c the equipment changes so fast.

    Technically, you are the occupiers and I am not surprised that they are trying to regain their independence. For me, it is a shame that you survived and experienced the Holocaust, the ghetto and the issues with the wall. You treat the same as the Nazis treated you. For me this is crazy, because technically Arabs are your brothers, you once spoke together in a Semitic language, Akkadian. What's wrong with you???!!!

    I hope both sides will be judged. Both Hamas for their insurgent terrorist attacks as well as Israel for atrocities and ethnic clensing against Palestinian people of Gaza

    • @nonchalanto

      Israel is not ethnic cleansing Palestine, where have you gotten that absurd notion? Israel has always had the military capability of causing genocide, but they haven’t-why? Because that isn’t their goal. Palestine, however, has always had the STATED goal of erasing and destroying the Jewish people. The reason they haven’t, is because they haven’t succeeded, Israel defends itself. There is NOT moral equivalence between these two sides. Hamas uses their own civilians as physical shields from bullets, and they specifically target civilian non-combatants to murder, torture, and rape.

      I’m confused?! So because there was “no Palestinian people before the 1700’s” then they just shouldnt exist? Both sides have and are committing atrocities. The video you linked is from a Jewish Israeli citizen, of course it’s going to be one sided. And I’m not for one side or the other. Personally I believe Israelites and Jewish people should be able to have a homeland of their own but I also feel like the Palestinians and Arabs should be able to have a land for themselves too. I’ll admit, I don’t know enough about the history and wars of the region to have a cemented opinion and honestly the only thing I really have a strong opinion on is that us Americans need to stay out of it. We have so many of our own issues over here that are getting overlooked because our “leaders” are busy worrying about all the other countries in the world and as a result our own people and cities are being neglected and destroyed but I’m curious why it should be okay for one side and peoples to exist and not the other.

    I think you are a great CZcamsr and have great content, but claiming that attack was unprecedented is an outright lie. I wish you all the best but I cannot support someone with those beliefs, the occupation of Palestine is illegal under international law and has been for decades.
