The HIde and go Seat from Alpine Van Works is the perfect modular seating option that flips up out of the way and takes about an hour to install. Only thing I don’t like about this is the cantilevered/unsupported side creating significant stress on the mount area. I would custom fabricate some sort of kickstand / vertical support that can be pivoted out of the way when stowed or completely removed simply. In a perfect world, it would be helpful to have a quick release to remove but leave the baseplate in position to completely remove out of your way when necessary to fit other loads.
    Thanks for posting.

      I can understand your concern. However, the cantilever design is and has successfully used in bridges for multiple vehicles and houses on cliffsides. My area's public transit system uses this type of cantilever- style seating in its buses. The only improvement to this installation would be to mount it to the vehicle chassis, as well as three- or five- point seatbelts, to bring it up to highway safety standards.

    looks like a great product. I am trying to figure out if the placement will interfere with the heated flooring system from just roaming design...the columbia flooring system. Any knowledge on this?

    Does the seat manufacturer (Freedman Seating Co) authorize attaching the steel mounting plate to a floating floor as you've done or must it be mounted directly to the steel floor of the van itself?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Před rokem +1

      I would contact freedman seating co on that one.

      Excellent question! The public transit where I live installs these seats directly to the chassis of the shuttle buses which allows the passengers to be kept in place even during a traffic accident.

    Well that might solve our problem with a travel seat for the bus. How do you think it would handle two car seats? possible or no?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Před rokem

      It really depends. Car seats are huge these days. My daughters takes up a ton of space. I’d be happy to sit two of them up there and snap a pic if need be.

    • @MooseWRX
      @MooseWRX Před rokem

      That's one of the main issue's I've been trying to work around! They DO make some car seats that are made to be more narrow so they can fit 3 across the rear of most standard vehicle, so that's something to consider as well.

    Thanks for the video - did you purchase the plates underneath the van or made them yourself? Can you share the thickness of the plate?

    IC think you forgot a washer though ,what's the torque setting on the nuts and bolts.

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Před 3 měsíci

      I didn't forget any washers. The manufacturer would know the torque specs.

    Do you trust this with your kid’s lives? It has not been pull tested and therefore, its safety is unknown. When there is weight in the seat, it could twist out of shape, because only one side is attached. This seems like something you wouldn’t want to use in motion. Buy a safety tested seat for your family. JMG or Benchmark, make safety tested/pull tested seats.

      The 2 bottom brackets sit flush with the frame in different areas. There would be a weight limit, especially important if in a head-on crash, rare. An upgrade could be it clips in at the floor when folded down. As strong or stronger than standard seats, then.. usually standard seating just bolts into the frame.
