- It’s simple, quick, and easy to winterize a 2-stroke outboard engine and we’re here to show you how. You won’t need much, just some small equipment and of course some Bel-Ray Marine products.

Great video. Thank you. Straight and to the point.
thank you
I have a 125 Mercury saltwater series outboard 2 stroke in order for me to get to the carburetors I have to take off a plastic plate that uncovers 4 carburetors. When I do this and start the motor the engine revs sky-high I guess it's because of the air fuel ratio. Any ideas how to fog the carburetors in this situation? Thank you for your time
If I only have a few hours of service (at the most) on the gear oil, do I need to change it?
If I used only non-ethanol fuel, and put stabilizer in the tank (10 gallon non-removable) at the beginning, do I need to add more stabilizer?
When you drain the lower unit can you wait until spring to fill it back up
Again, What about the water in the cooling system?
I would ALWAYS run it out of gas. That's the right way to do it
What millimeter size is the drain screw for the gear oil if anybody knows?
You mention a pump adapter to put in the lower unit grease. Where do I find this adapter?
Walmart sells a little handpump with adapter for this.
If i use it on a cool spring day do i need to do bottom end again? Or is it ok to just fog again? If the weather changes
I thought you run it with antifreeze threw hose. . I seen 2 others run strait water.??? 😮
With freezing weather, How is it ready with water still inside the impeller area?
with plugs out u can with civer iff turn motor by hand with gloves on revese rotaion a few turn tu remove an water left in enging unit than turen a bit proper rotation to reseat the water pump inpeller
mormally it will self drain if verical
Jim - great video. We just became boat owners this spring. After going through the winterizing process you described, is it necessary to take off the motor and store in a shop or is a motor cover sufficient? Thank you
No need to take motor off I just cover mine
Am I missing something or why would you not just pump the lower unit oil into the fill plug until it reaches the top after reinstalling drain plug?
Because you want to push out any water and air from the bottom up. If you fill from the top, all that gets trapped
Thanks, makes sense. Used to doing differentials where everything can flow out the bottom.
I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for the clarification Chris
No antifreeze hooked up to dog ears? Or did the “fogging” take care of that?
Say , antifreeze ? How ? Why ? Where ? , am - a rookie at this , please advise - thank you in advance
@@montellwilliams811 No antifreeze needed in powerhead / engine
Say , does anyone know where I can purchase one of those type of drain screw & is it a must to drain lower unit oil ?
YES it is. If it freezes your lower unit can crack!
@@jmgratzdelang623 OK , understood - say I was out on the water with my 30 HP outboard gas motor 1978 , & the engine will slowly stop while at idle speed , trolling & just at idle , any help will be grateful , thanks great video 👈
@@montellwilliams811 It's highly likely it is fuel related and that your carbs are dirty - when warm you may be too lean etc. There are excellent videos on CZcams on how to clean carbs and I was lucky that Dangar marine had a video of my exact Yamaha 25 2 stroke which showed how to clean and set up the carbs. However given your motor runs reasonably well I would guess your carb jets are not completely clogged and I would recommend adding 'Seafoam' fuel additive as it does actually work and may prevent the hassle of a carb rebuild. Good luck.
you can purchase most parts by searching your engine model part catalog, or calling manufacturer.
If I run all the fuel out I don’t need stabil right
no you still need too because its also about the fuel in the engine
@@jmgratzdelang623 I have stabil IN my gas tank !
If you remove the fuel line and run the carbs dry that should do it.
