- Two male, glowing creatures start a fight over trying to impress a female. Each one of them wants to win her over by giving a better light show than his competitor.
"Shine"' is a visual love story showing the importance of healthy competition. The film shows that it is not always the strongest, fastest or most attractive that wins as sometimes it is the inner light that shines the brightest. The film brings a fresh perspective to the age-old story of men vying for the love of a beautiful woman, however in this instance, the men are two furry creatures who battle with the power of self-illumination. The battle to glow brightest is intense and the combat fierce. They are on fire... until one gets burned!

The main characters look so much like Toothless and Light fury from How to train your Dragon 3. This short film came out earlier than the movie, though.

Or about the fact that all the lines that used to have lights when the camera was panning down don't at the end when the camera is panning up. The guy took not the energy from two bulbs, but every line of bulbs, no wonder he exploded like a firework, and took the lights out with him.

Unlikely.
There are plenty of animals that exhibit sexual dimorphism and use it to attract a potential mate: Peacocks, Lions, Robins, the list goes on.
This just takes that concept and mixes some fantasy into it. Nothin’ to do with HTTYD, just imaginative biology.

I just love how the animation moves out of the frame at certain moments to give a sense of 3D....also at 1:25 to show how beautiful he is the framing got almost full screen....also the sound design is just another level...!!! So innovative...!!!! Loved it...!!♥️

I like how she took an interest in the littler one from the beginning despite the bigger one doing increasingly better than him in terms of performance.
Also- She had interest in the Alpha Male 4 a sec- making the Joe/Smaller/Omega feel cast aside; but then she changed her attention towards him, Joe. Basically, she 'fell' in love with the cool Alpha Jock who was Extremely handsome and strong but was deceptively toxic, ...wait. I think she was like "I wonder what u can do?" To the guy who was struggling (then became under pressure) and the "I'm the best for you" Competition got so Toxic/Extreme SHE felt cast aside like the Omega, because she felt she didn't matter to either of them.
Protagonist power.
I meeeeaaan, revealing the lil fella hanging off a line, exhausted and (literally) burnt out during the end credits would've still conveyed the same message but sure, death by explosion works too. Yeesh. 😆
Jokes aside, beautiful work and she was GORGEOUS. Would love to see her in another film.

Shows if you try to hard, and trying to impress someone over your limits gets you no where. Some just like it simple, some may not. It just depends on the person. Overall though great animated short film. Really loved it!

I just finished seeing the video, and my conclusion is he kills itself, he broke the light bulb with his tail cause tight it too much, and that causes an interference with the electric circuit and when the other one releases his light all the electricity goes to him, and instead of releasing his light too, he still holds on, so that's the reason, his arrogance kills himself.

Everyone over here talkin bout the story, but I'm marveling at the animation. I don't know much about animation but I love the way the lighting reflects on their fur and the dark parts of the screen being overlapped when something is close. Watching this makes my eyes happy :)

This animation is incredible, and the screen borders is super creative. I noticed the screen felt fuller at 1:26, but I didn't realize it was because of the black bars until 2:21- I had to go back and rewatch the whole thing to notice just how many times the image just subtly went out of the screen's bounds. It's so unique, and the style is gorgeous

Interesting enough, I loved the sound in this. The sound effects and music set the tone for it all. Don't get me wrong the animation is fantastically done, the audio portion of the animation also caught my attention is all.
