- Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus Christ, is perhaps one of the most overlooked characters in the life of the Savior and the story of the Nativity. Yet, there is no question that Joseph left a powerful impact on Jesus, Mary, and their other children. He was a man of solid conviction. His love for Mary, the mother of Jesus, is unmatched. Because Joseph’s story is only covered in four chapters of the Bible and he most likely died before the ministry of the Savior, we often gloss over him, and sadly miss the powerful witness he left of his adopted son, the Messiah of the world.

A man of faith and courage. He ignored what might have been said about his pregnant betrothed and took her to his home and protected her. His guidance of the young Jesus would have been very significant. Bless his name and memory.
Joseph was better than some biological fathers. Some biological fathers did not protect their children the way Joseph protected Jesus

@z Matthew 1:25 states that Joseph had marital relations with Mary after the birth of Jesus. Generally, that means more children. And also, there are many passages referring to brothers and sisters of Jesus in the Gospels, even naming them. Mark 6:3, Matthew 13:55-56, John 7:1-5 are just a few examples.

I'm 57 and this is the first time anyone has focused on Joseph and laid out the marriage rites of this period. It put the story of the Nativity in a whole new light.
Only Catholic Church acknowledged this and taught for 2000 years. Mary and Joseph are the model of holy family. That’s why marriage is one of the 7 sacrament. They call it marriage sacrament.
Matthew (13:55-56) mention James, Joseph/Joses, Judas/Jude and Simon as brothers of Jesus, the son of Mary. The same verses also mention unnamed sisters of Jesus.

James and Judas (who were also apostles) as well as their elder brothers Simon and Joseph were Jesus' cousins, Alphaeus' sons (Alphaeus was the brother of Joseph the adoptive father of Jesus). If Jesus had siblings as you people claim (even Martin Luther believed Jesus was the only child of Mary), why then did his Mother Mary move out to John's house after the crucifixion of Jesus? Was John perhaps Jesus' brother too? Would she not have gone to live with her "other" children? Were two of the apostles not her children as you people wrongly claim? So why would she, after seeing her son murdered go and start living with someone who is not related to her and who has his own mother (Mary Salome) while she has children?🤔

If she doubted, she may have been punished like Zaccheus who doubted God's message through thesame angel Gabriel or she would not have been chosen to conceive Jesus. She asked how will she conceive since she is a virgin, because she had taken vows to remain a virgin for life and had no intention of being with a man. And that is why immediately after her question the angel explained she will concieve as a virgin through the power of the Holy Spirit and she then accepted God's will and said "let it be done unto me according to your word"

@@7pal101 she did not doubt!! Why did Angel Gabriel not make her dumb like he did to Zacheus. As soon as Zacheus expressed his doubt he was made dumb. He did not even have the opportunity to be given an explanation as was with the case with Mary. So why the preferential treatment for Mary? Because the angel knew her heart and intentions and knew she did not doubt. Her question was: how will it happen? Zacheus question was: can it even happen?

So much to learn from St. Joseph, the obedience to God’s will, the courage and bravery to take on the responsibility of protecting the Holy family from Herod. Clearly the model of how Fatherhood should be, greatly needed in today’s modern world. Lord have mercy!
This is actually going to be my preaching this Sunday and right now, I want to thank the Holy Spirit. While actually witnessing Joseph's love for Mary, it brought tears to my eyes.

This man is among the few I would love to sit down at his feet and listen to him relay the story of his life. No man worlds without end but him can share details, the weight & definitely feelings of inadequacy he only knows.
Beautiful depictions. I have to add something to his piece which I learned several years ago. When the betrothal ceremony was complete, the groom went to his own home, having promised his bride that he would prepare a home (this might be an actual home, or he would be adding a room onto his father's house for her. Think of the scripture, "In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you. If I go & prepare a place for you I will return to receive you to myself, that where I am you may be also.") Then.... & this is the part I find fascinating... the groom could not go get his bride until HIS FATHER told him that it was time to return for his bride! Think about it... If you're an eager young bridegroom who wanted to go get his bride, you might be in such a hurry that you slap up a quick "house" (or room in his father's house), & call it good so that you can rush to go bring your bride home. But a wise father was in charge. He would see to it that the place prepared for his new daughter-in-law was just perfect before allowing his son to go for her. This is so significant when we think about the Bridegroom coming for His Bride at the Second Coming. Only the Father knows when it is time for His Son's return to earth for his Bride. I just find the symbolism so fascinating! (You can read more about this in Donna B. It was in 2016 when I fell really ill. I was hospitalized for almost a week and I’m not getting any better. One night, I looked out of the window of my room where I was confined and I saw the facade of the St. Joseph Shrine. I prayed to God and to Jesus to heal me and before I ended the prayer I asked the help of St. Joseph to also pray for me and if he could deliver my prayers to Jesus. When, I woke up the next day my fever was gone and my blood tests became normal. I thank the Lord for healing me and to St. Joseph for interceding with my prayers. ❤️

Happy feast day of St Joseph to everyone! It was nice going to Mass today. This afternoon I prayed the Rosary of St Joseph. I'm so glad this year is dedicated to this remarkable man. We should pray to St Joseph for our families. St Joseph terror of demons, pray for us!
We are to pray only to God. The "saints" of the Catholic religion can't answer prayers, nor can they intercede for us before God. And if any demon was ever afraid of a mortal man (other than Jesus when He was on earth), the demon was a wuss.

God could not have chosen a better man for father of his son.
I just had my third miracle baby born on August 15. We named him Julian Joseph. Although I wanted to honor Mary, we already had Marian names with our first two children and this time couldn't agree on a boy's name we both loved. I had prayed to St. Joseph since recently I heard he is known to "make possible what seems impossible". I had a couple things to ask through his intercession and they were granted! I'm really glad my husband agreed on the name Joseph and I know St. Joseph will be looking after this little soul.

He would of had to have been young to get the Blessed Virgin Mary and new born Jesus into Egypt.
Same here. Always heard he was 40ish & established as a Carpenter. In those days it was common for older men who'd established homes & trades to take younger Brides for childbirth. Many Widows were around back then, too, as a result.
I was also surprised. My mom and other people said he was a grown man in his 40s and Mary was still a minor when they got married
Joseph was an old man when he and Mary were married. Joseph was amazing man and an amazing stepfather. He and Mary never had any other children. Mary only had one child that was Jesus.

I love this story.i love it that Joseph's life is being told because no one think's how significant his role was in life. He is a prime example on how a father and husband should be. Great story thanks!
