    Rock on man. I have been very impressed with BOSS. In all the gel test videos I have done, they have out performed every type, size, and velocity of steel shells I can find. I think they are probably the best thing on the market short of $10 per shell TSS loads.

    Boss shotshells maybe good shells it is harder to get them here in CA. However I would never support a company that can't handle criticism about their product. They censored a great CZcams channel because they questioned the quality of them. Out of respect for the channel I won't mention their name so they won't get sued. I feel like whether a company sponsored u or not u should be able to question their product.

      I live in CA and when they have the shells in stock they are not hard to get. I order several cases every season. To each their own, feel free to shoot whatever you like. Boss crushes the competition.

      Out of all the CZcams videos I've seen on BOSS shells, I've never seen one have anything bad to say. So out of all those channels, one guy makes a video trash talking BOSS. I'd guess that, that channel may possibly misrepresented BOSS ammo. If they were that bad, word would be out, but its just this one guy.

      @Joshua Lowe hey man I’ve been seeing your comments everywhere on these videos lately! Great reply here. Quick question for you…I am going to be hunting pheasants/sharp tail grouse, ducks, and geese this year. I am new to bird hunting but want to use Boss shells. Should I get different sizes for everything or just use 3/5’s for all of the above?

    I tried Boss last year and loved it. They emailed after the season about there being shortages this year so I ordered two cases. One case of 2 3/4 Fives and one case of 3 inch 3/5 blend. Looking at the prices of what's available right now makes the Boss purchase a great decision.

    I’ve recently started to do a lot of research on reloading steel, bismuth, itx10/13, and TSS. Maybe I’m missing something but after scouring the internet for the past few weeks reading ballistics data and watching a lot of comparison videos like this one I’ve started to realize a few things. First, 2 3/4” 1 1/4 oz #5 bismuth Boss loads seem to be extremely popular. That’s approximately 235 pellets and $1.60 per shell. Secondly, bismuth #5’s seem to be compared to steel #3 or 4 quite a bit. The “rule of 2” is widely accepted from the old lead shot waterfowl days meaning if you were shooting lead 4’s for ducks then you should go up a few sizes in steel. Bismuth is not as dense as steel so a steel #2 is very comparable ballistically to a bismuth #5. Not quite the rule of 2 but close. That being said the 40 yard energy released in ft lbs and ballistic gel penetration is nearly identical between 2 3/4” 1 1/8 oz steel #2 ($.50) vs 2 3/4” 1 1/4 oz bismuth #5’s ($1.60). The huge difference between the two shells is the bismuth has about 100 pellets more and obviously the cost. So my question is, is it worth it to pay triple the amount for a shell that is basically identical to a steel shell at 40 yards? And yes I understand that the same shot size comparison between the 2 would be far better for the bismuth ballistics. I shoot decoying ducks with steel # 2’s and rarely lose any birds...definitely way less than 5% so I don’t have a cripple issue. I know there is a ton of anecdotal and subjective reports from hunters about the Boss shells but I find it strange that Boss hasn’t released ballistics data as a selling point. Curious what other hunters think

    • @DFA2503
      @DFA2503 Před 2 lety +1

      I shoot the boss #5’s bc i like the pellet count (around 230). 1 1/4 #2’s steel has around 140. For me, that is a world of difference. I still use 3.5 #2’s or bb steel for geese bc as i said before, i like the shot count. Compared to the 1 1/8 #3’s steel, which is my go to rd for duck, the bismuth #5’s are killer in decoying and passing. Maybe if i used # 2’s steel, i wouldnt notice it as much. But with all the vids on youtube i’ve watched, bismuth does out perform steel in penetration.
      So i try to keep my old stand by steel load of 1 1/8 #3, which is around 172 pellets, and try to get that in all of my duck loads. 1 oz of #5 bismuth gets you around 200.
      Ive actually started reloading #5 bismuth for my wife’s 20 gauge bc 7/8’s #4 imo is not all that good considering the 20 gauge does not have the speed needed for steel to be more effective. Bismuth can shoot 200 fps slower and still have better performance.
