I never get on a plane without noise-cancelling headphones, hours of great music, blinders, and a neck brace. I've watched screaming kids go for hours and never heard a sound from them. I get off of planes refreshed and sometimes the other passengers look like they've been in combat after enduring hours of listening to screaming kids.

Usually with Southwest Airline's method of choosing a seat we escape sitting anywhere near very young children. I ALWAYS take ear plugs, good ones, just in case. The first airline that bans babies and children under 12 would get all of our ticket money though. Don't get me wrong, I raised 5 kids, I just raised them right and never subjected other people to their fits and tantrums.

Parenting has little to do with it, infants and toddlers who are too young to rationalize will cry if their needs aren’t met. Not allowing children is not an option, so what would be? Having a section just for kids under 5 maybe? I’ve seen churches and movie theaters with crying rooms. Maybe offer flights that are especially designated for families, therefore you’re pre warned or maybe have flights for adults only and oh, have a flight just for drunks, they’re more intolerable than kids.

This child is not crying because it is distressed. A pain/sick/hungry/tired/uncomfortable cry is entirely different. You can tell something is wrong just from the sound of it. This child - who sounds like a toddler rather than a little baby - just doesn't like being confined and is going to chuck a mental until or unless it gets its own way. The parents should speak quietly but firmly and tell them to stop making that noise, and they should also have brought something with them to distract the child, something that's a very special treat but will be withheld unless the kid behaves. It's poor parenting to allow a child to have more power than it's own parents. It makes for monster teenagers.

every one needs to understand there are two sides to this it's not just about "they are kids we have to be more understanding" there is also "people pay thousands of dollars only to endure a very uncomfortable flight with a screaming child", if it were a free flight then yeah they wouldn't have any right to complain but unless you're a millionaire making money isn't easy and for many making those thousands of dollars for a flight is a huge hit to their finances. So it's understandable why people would be upset over a noisy crying child. It amazes me how people use the first argument but never see the latter.

If an autistic child freaks out, it takes a lot to calm them down. You can't just drug them and hope for the best. A little more understanding of an ASD child's needs and the stress the parents are going through would go a long way. When a flight is getting ready to land a children's ears become very sensitive and can feel the pressure which hurt them enormously. That kind of scream from a kid is exactly the result. This is when a child needs help to control the ears pressure, some parents give their kids a
lollipop to suck. That will helps very much with the pressure. This is why some adults use gum to chew during a flight ✈.

Screaming humans of any age in close-knit quarters is akin to a day in hell. Parents must bring enough food, water and toys to keep little Johnny or Janie occupied. It is boring enough to fly on a plane as an adult. Just imagine being a three-year old. I will state that I taught my daughter very early on in her life that screaming for attention would be met by the kind of attention she really didn't want. Fortunately for me, she loved to draw from the time she was a toddler. So we always had lots of paper, pencils and crayons on hand.

Under no circumstance does a child EVER need to behave like that, It's a complete lack of discipline. I've been flying since I was 5 months old from the UK to Australia every year and my parents never had an issue because I knew I was not allowed to behave like that. Let's not act like the child had any reason for making those ridiculous noises and disturbing everyone and yet the parents did absolutely nothing. Disgraceful.
P.S. I know kids get irritable but the parents should have been prepared to give the kid activities in order to keep the child occupied during the flight such as colouring books or little toys. If the kid was upset because he was in pain (when landing or sometimes the air pressure builds up in their ears and I've seen kids get very upset because they don't know how to relieve this pressure) that's one thing but this definitely wasn't what was happening in this moment.

@No Name Okay, let me get this straight. Because a child has additional support needs or a disability, their parents should find alternative ways to travel thousands of miles because someone can't handle 10-15mins of crying or screaming on an airplane?
As for "relaxing time", if you want to relax on a plane I would suggest upgrading to business or first class as ait travel is not a relaxing experience no matter what anyone says.

@No Name "entitled children". I've heard it all now. All I hope is that you never have to experience your child being autistic and having a freak out anywhere. They don't choose to be born that way.

@No Name My daughter's autistic. She's 3 and sounds just like the kid in the background when she gets excited. She doesn't take medication (doc never mentioned it). She does 2 therapy's a week and goes to a special needs school. Autism isn't cureable. It's not easy being a parent of a child with autism but you still want them to experience as much as possible even flying for that matter. I'd rather fly to get to my destination faster rather than have my kid sitting in a car seat for a couple days driving to where we need to go. I'm not going to shelter my "goblin" because of people like you who don't understand they're human too.

@@randalpmcmurphy1340 It doesn't matter. If you interviewed everyone on that plane, you'd find that many of those people would have issues. They're not all making life hell for the other passengers. If you have children, don't expect society to move aside for you. It is your job to ensure your family learns to fit into society. The world is full of people with problems, which they don't foist on others.
