- The Carlo Ancelotti era began with a 1-0 Boxing Day win at home to Burnley, with a dominant and professional Everton display rewarded through Dominic Calvert-Lewin's late diving header.
And while the TV cameras were fixed on the new manager, there was still a lot happening around the ground. From half-time marriage proposals on the pitch to a moving pre-match tribute to the Evertonians who passed away in 2019, it was an afternoon of all emotions.

Getting a glimpse of Baines is a trophy in itself for me and my family and we're not alone!
The fact that we haven't won anything under a competent manager while that man Baines served for the club he loves, like us' only makes us all love him more! Big Dunc, Leighton Baines, Tom Davo, there's a few more along with Chair man Bill makes this club have that core and that's a gift for us fans that no trophy can replace, So, NO' a trophy would be great but that afore mentioned core is EVERYTHING to us dies hard Evetrtonians!

Seems mad saying it after the win and considering Ancelotti's stats overall, but I still think we should've stuck with big Dunc. I just don't think Ancelotti is the right fit for us. He already seems very non-plussed and from what I've seen, he doesn't seem to have much chemistry with big Dunc and the rest of the staff. I hope I'm wrong.
Interesting. I think Duncan would be like Joe Royle. He would give them a cup winning boost and 'dogs of war' solidarity. I am hoping Ancelotti has very sharp insights into how to maximise this squad's potential. (He is not going to have the £s he is used to, at other clubs, but more than Moyes had, so this will be a test of him as well. I just hope fans can have realistic expectations however to give him time and a chance. If he cannot make improved changes after 3-4 seasons, then this says that something else is the matter perhaps too, as Everton have had 3 managers after Moyes, that have not really brought long term improvement, even with more £s, than Moyes had).
I think it's still far to early to say and I also don't think Ancelotti has ever been in this situation at a club like Everton before. Massive history with a ton of ambition but horrible recent results. He'll be backed with money and he knows he has to show up and maintain his own reputation. He doesn't seem like the collect-the-check type but he does seem like he just got a narrow win with a team he just met that was dangerously close to the drop zone a few weeks back. Him keeping Dunc on should tell us a lot about his character; especially if his son typically occupies that position alone in most cases.
