I HATED this trade from the beginning. It’s was redundant. Had judge already. That’s the problem with this team and it’s construct. They have compiled guys who fall in line with certain analytics. Can’t have that. Have to have guys who do different things.
Brillant move by Cashman so Stanton can waive his no trade clause and ask to be traded. I credit Cashman for doing this! There was no other way to get Stanton off of the team and maybe save some money that could be absorbed by another team even if it is a very small amount of maybe 4 million dollars from the 92 million they owe him.

If the Yankees were to acquire Soto, say they take on Stanton's contract despite their financial woes, what is to say that Boone would not rest Soto like he rests other players the night after they go 3-4 with a homerun? The fellows are giving Mr. Cashman too much Machiavellian credit. Sometimes, the most simple answer is the probable right one; Cashman's recent moves haven't worked well, and he is feeling the pressure and reacting recklessly, emotionally, and even petulantly. I'll bet there is "more going on" on the inside, either with his sense of security in the organization or maybe even his personal life (or both). Cashman needs to regain his grip before he damages the team.
Cashman is setting up an explanation for the reason he won't be able to obtain Yamamoto's services. Yam will probably take the Mets unlimited money because the wealth gap Cashman enjoyed throughout most of his GM tenure has evaporated. Cashman won't say it out loud but will allow the media to assume that it was Yamamoto's agent's fault when in reality his Stanton trade has held back the team's flexibility since 2018 while they have the second highest payroll in MLB. It's the same excuse as the "he can't play in NY" excuse which feeds the ego/hubris of the reporters feeling that they have some influence in the game while not holding his managers and coaches accountable. Cashman is about as beloved as George W. Bush during the financial crisis.
