- Greg hikes into the cold winter mountain bush with one item, determined to build a shelter that can help him survive the windy snowstorm and long dark night.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

"Comfort is a luxury, survival is necessary." Well said Greg..and well demonstrated
I pray for the day theres an ovens x outdoor boys crossover. i think you guys do the best outdoor survival content out there.
Totally agree, have watched every single one of Ovens video's and a huge Outdoor Boys fan as well.
Agreed!!
I just thought this today. Cant comment on lukes videos to mention it there though. That would be INCREDIBLE! one in canada one in alaska!?
outdoor guy is eating wayyyy too much sugar with like anything, meat, eggs, sausages ... the worst diet you'd imagine
@@unboxing4319ok mum
Finally some good old greg content again!! Love it
I definitely think Greg should do an abandon car over night! love how you always come up with amazing content❤
That's how you get tetanus
@@thegreatoutdoors9769i used to work with steel had rust in my skin all the time, stepped on rusty nail few times in my life never got a single issue.
Ok, 57 year old Ontario farmboy Canuck here. Glad to see a fellow Canuck making the best of the internet. Subscribed.
I love how down to earth he is. He doesn't care about money and I'm sure can buy a new truck but buys an older model probably so he can work on it himself. He's a good guy.
..hello, me too..
My son has your dogs “brother” he bought from the same people you got yours from just from the next litter. He loves him!
I too own a shepherd and was loving this vid just because he photo bombs him just like mine. Great video, beautiful dog. Thanks for sharing.
😀
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast
I was like how come it’s not playing? Oh…🙄
Yes to an overnight challenge in a car. But I think a 2 week survival challenge in the bush would be awesome too 🤣🐾❤️
I'm a simple man. Ovens puts out a video I click it and watch it.
This guy is the #1 CZcams survivalist!
Yep. I only watch him and Xander Budnick
I mean... Les Stroud?
Outdoor boyz is the biggest channel for a reason 😃
That’s not a survivalist style @@johnchimbani8473
Everyone has their favorites..No disrespect to any of these real outdoor youtubers that have been on CZcams for many ,many years , and if you are a avid watcher of Bushcraft , you know who they are ... 😎
Greg, your videography skills have gotten so good! Really capture the essence of what you’re doing and makes us feel like we’re there with you! Keep it going brother!
Thank you for still teaching bushcraft and survival. Some CZcamsr's when they get big they turn into a reality show or advertising equipment. This was great.
Yeah and they pretend they sleep in the snow and pretend they have no water and food. Then the sleep in the car.
@@alexanderwright9064 I hope u guys dont refer to Luke from the Outdoor Boys.
@richard13794 No. there are the genuine but so many frauds... I live in the Northern Territory of Australia in the bush . My lifestyle is not city folk. Camping in Monsoon now .Crocidiles sll around me daily life. Greg is just a genuine bloke.
Oh, you mean like Fowler? I unsubscribed for that reason. Very likeable guy but went gimmicky.
@@bradjohnson8100 Yes!
If I'm alone in the woods I would want Greg with me,great job with the sandwich boards the other day outside the supermarket with Chef !.
Maybe if you had some giveaway stuff you could attract more interest.

The guy looks like the real deal. He lives what he teaches.
Greg I work outdoors on ZUG ISLAND 30 years and I survived in 52 below zero wind chill keeping the plant running and I know what survival is and your show is exactly what these spoiled rotten kids need to learn thanks for your time and your show!10 ⭐️’s to Greg and Finn!
Great video as always Greg! Looking forward to Part 2 when you beef up the shelter; Hillside Hilton!
Greg, this is the stuff we like. We want you to stay safe, but enjoy your survival videos.
Greg, snowing while you’re building a shelter makes it a real world survival situation. Awesome videos.
Excellent Content, Real World Survival Skills on Display here...Greg Ovens is

Mr Ovens presents another Merch quote:
"Survival: It's not quite the same as the Hilton you know"
What a legendary guy
what i like about this channel, its real, its raw, its shows you that its not always comfortable, this is true survival
Greg is, such a natural person, no airs and graces just down to earth genuine guy. I could watch and listen to him for hours, and I do.
Now that's a Greg Ovens worthy off-road truck! Nice and light. Bigger isn't better in snowy and icy conditions. Nice find.
Greg I could type a hundred sentences about how you’re the best but all I really have the energy to say is that I freakin love you, Finn and everything you put your energy into. That was a good shelter idea and I pray that your back won’t bother you too much through the summer months. Peace and love from the western states.
Absolutely stunningly beautiful day here in Scotland today; no winds, no rain and a lovely light warm sunshine all day. It's the odd one day this beautiful that makes up for the pissing rain every other day!
My dad was from Scotland always wanted to visit their. My name is Erskine my twin brother is Lucian Stockard.
Can't wait for part 2. I'd like to see you get a good night sleep in that shelter.
Yes definitely going to keep my eye out for parts 2. Poor Fin, he must be starving!
I’d be honored to meet Ovens.
Greg love your videos in hospital right now so the video is helping with the time spent here lol keep up the awesome stuff ❤❤
That old cars been there for years right behind a cabin hes lived in for years hes never saw that car before .lol right on 👍
Nice looking truck. Great advice making sure you communicate to someone where you're going and when you expect to be back. That alone could save your life. Great video, Greg - as usual.!
I think I would have found a few boughs for the bed even in the dark.
Yeah Greg ought to do an overnighter in an abandoned car!!! Love you Greg
This is a really great video Greg. This looks 'do-able' to me. Looking forward to the followup video. Stay safe!
Down to earth and real, love it! Cheers from Norway!
As a young mam I was strong in the back n weak in the mind! Bbut, as a old man I am strong in the mind n weak i tge back! A life time of learning must be shared to the young, even if they dont want to learn, or they can have experiance the task master! The main thing I learned was how smart my Dad was since I have grown old! So now days...I camp in my camper....lol
Please do part 2. Soon! Love you Greg. Videos are the best and I learn so much. 🔥Stay well, keep your joy and know you are blessed. ❤🔥
Great! The essential basics! Survive the night. Fire and shelter. Keep dry. That's it! Thank you for your content! It helps a lot!!! Best regards from Oldenburg/Germany! Jörg
Nice truck Greg! That should do it for you. Greg, I think when you are doing these you should bring a few backup items with you, like some food and water backup communications, and a couple of other things. just because you are showing us what to do doesn't mean you have to take a chance on not making it out alive. no need to put yourself through this every time, we will still learn. we are getting older and you never know what can happen when putting yourself through this stuff. we may handle it fine when we were younger but there is many things that can happen when we get older. protect yourself!
New truck! 2007, such a humble man.
After watching your lighter video, I never go anywhere without out one. I keep one in my car and in my bag. Thanks Greg!
I love how the fire is away from the wood of the shelter. I remember several shelters catching on fire on alone, scary
Too many people don't bother with making a fireplace/ chimney.
finally some classic greg survival. love it
Greg is the most authentic person doing survival videos. I also appreciate that he loves German Shepherds, as do I, which are the best breed out there.
Great job Greg. I agree, good thing you made the Shelter. Love the reflective fire idea.
This kind of videos of Greg are life saver! and I like them the most.
Back to the old school shelter building survival videos I absolutely love it Greg thank you for this
Many thanks to you mighty Greg for share you experience! Big hug from Italy!
The BEST shelter we've seen you build yet!! Looking forward to the part 2!
This guy is a legend. Tough as they come. Doesn’t even bring gloves or a hat. He’s nuts 😂
Our bodies can withstand a lot and this guy shows it great inspiration
A true bushman.
I always say my one item is a knife. I knew you were gonna go with the lighter. There’s some great common sense tips here. People go missing for these reasons you went over. Serious common sense that’s not as common now 🐸🍺🔪🔥
Good to see you back!!!
one thing I like to do is stack firewood on the cold side of the reflector/ 1-2 feet offset.. This both serves as a wind break for it, and dries any wet firewood.
Yes Greg, I did learn a few things about prior-oratizing the situation from this video! good stuff.
Finn is such a happy dog
I really enjoyed the relaxing drone air shot with the chilly music at the end. Good content!
Mate, I remember when you first started the channel after the "Survival Challenge" with the Ginger Camper. Fowler only has 1.5 M subscribers, and he's been doing this a hell of a lot longer than you. That says it all. I bet you never thought you'd have nearly 800K followers. It's awesome that you stuck with it. Because you're literally the only one that "Lives" a Wildlife style of existence. Instead of all the others, like Mr. Fowler, that only do it on weekends or holidays. You're the real deal. So, thank you for continuing to do what you do so well.
Damn Fowler could pay a bit more. Greg needs a camper 4x4!!!!
Fake Fowler been ripping Greg off for years i dont even consider this editing you can do this with a phone .
@@rexyfowler5520yeah, minimal editing at best. They make our boy look bad.
@@niezohe7392 What they do i could do with a phone its not even editing cheak out the montages on top griefs its one of me and my husbands many channels now thats real editing best in east coast
wont lie I was thinking the samething, hes almost up to 800k sub and im pretty sure he can affort a decent and recent truck, fowler wake up
Of course, Fin likes bushes, that's where the sticks are :D
68 bruiick...well done Gregster...from Texas
I love what you do, Ovens. Practical and applicable.
Flynn loves the ❄️
In all aspects of life, communication is of paramount importance. Really good basic awareness/knowledge conversation of pursuing outdoor adventures that far too few people ever even get close to talking about. Great video.
always learning from you
A classic Greg video! You love to see it 😍 much love from Augsburg, Germany
It would be so cool to see Greg and Amos in a show like dual survival! It would do great, really.
Can’t wait for Part2!! 🏕️
Great content,Thanks man!
I like how you built your shelter with the heat coming through the shelter. It looked like it would be warm. Great video
I've found a perfect channel and I'm going to be binge watching this coming weekend, I'm stoked!!!
great job greg you really inspire me well done you and finn cant wait for part 2
I am an engineer working on a blast furnaces. We always discuss risks. I am so glad that you put that start to the video.
Risks can be managed if they are recognised. And tes, sometimes you get bitten by an unknown event. But covering any risks reduces the overall risk.
A vessel is always useful
Made my afternoon, I always enjoy watching 🎉
Excellent job constructing the shelter. Well designed. Very fortunate to have the rocks available. A lot of hard work. 👍🌲
Back to classic Greg content. Loved thid
As someone who has gone through a search and rescue looking for a loved one in the bush, I appreciate you speaking of the safety aspect. Not many bushcrafters discuss it on their videos, it's rather concerning.
Awesome video! I definitely learned a lot! Thank you sir!
I'm looking forward to part two! Also I'm gonna steal that line "this ain't the Hilton" 🤣
You have taught me tons thanks greg
Love the hunkering down videos, looking forward to Part 2!
Always supporting
Love that shelter!!, can't wait till 2
Great video, Greg. I love to see you do a collaboration with Amos and Zach in a survival challenge using only cast off, materials to make everything necessary for survival. Like Alone meets junkyard wars.. then ather the challenge is over each person describes the tool and equipment that they made and why it would be useful..
What a great video!
Excellent video Greg, best one yet❤
I’m impressed GREAT JOB ❤
Ya’ll have great resources to survive. Mushrooms, wild edible plants, flat rocks to stack. If you had the time/energy, you could build a small permanent shelter from stone, pines for roof rafters, etc. Ya’ll probably have clay to make mud, rocks to make a chimney, etc. love this content Greg.
Was worried about the dog.Glad you brought him and with you to be warm
I really enjoy your stuff. Please continue very productive watching thank you
One word. Awesome!
This was a great video. Thanks, Greg.
Awesome Video!!!
Thanks Greg
Nice work absolutely great advice ✌🏻 looking forward for the next
Yes .. a part two would be cool to watch , ,
I love how this is a survival video! you're like Bob Ross of Bushcraft
I enjoyed the video my friend. Thanks for sharing your techniques I appreciate it. Thanks.

your knowledge is so useful and valuable…Thank you Greg🤙
This is gonna be a good video.
Yeah buddy 🐸

Musical addition was a majorly added touch, definitely like to see more video's like this. Fowler team keep it up, Great video.
It’s a great start for a shelter. Do it up!!
