I didn't care for the powertrain though or the lack of cruise control, so I opted for trh newly redesigned 2012 Versa sedan. Much cheaper quality interior, but still roomy and it was much smoother driving.

    Been driving a Rio for 4 years now (2015 model). I just love it! Of course, I stopped using it often since we got a 10th gen Accord, but I always thought there's so much potential in this car, it just needs better engine. And you can get spectacular features on lower trims, especially on the inside. The interior is surprisingly beautiful and packed with features (for this category of cars).
    Fuel efficiency is not great, maybe because I live in a city full of hills, a lot of climbing, thus throttle, is required. But it does the job.

      So I own a 2021 Forte and used to own a Hyundai Accent, what I can say is they have never ever broken down on me and never had any major issues. They are suprisingly reliable and amazing, however one issue I’ve had with both cars is they are a bit loud, slow and fuel economy is terrible on all naturally aspirated hyundai motor engines but the features and level of premium make up for it and size.

    Finally drove one today! I am beyond impressed with the vehicle. I’ve driven wrx that are louder on the interior, Honda accords with a vaguer rubberbandy cvt, and audio that I feel wouldn’t feel out of place in a more expensive compact. I was on a test drive alone, and didn’t realize my exit lane was already next to me, so I chucked it, way harder then I meant to, and it took it. When a car is lightweight, decent grip, with decent tires, and good steering feedback, it felt good, surprisingly enough I was laughing at how entertaining I felt. It’s not fast, but it gets out of its in way pretty well!

    They are actually great fun to drive as they are lightweight,
    They are simple meaning reliability is high,
    Kia doesn't rip you off meaning you get excellent value, plus if anything minor needs to be replaced, you get 7 year warranty in the UK
    I would recommend if its in your budget
    Family members of mine have owned a Kia and after 13 years, no issues related to the engine, just a part needed to be replaced a few years in as there was a slight rattle. As i was saying, reliability is no issue with these cars. And they are not dull to drive like old toyotas in this price range lol and not Granny cars

Coupled with 6 speed auto transmission, I can say my old Rio has much pep than those with the new engine and the IVT. Engine noise is almost half of this 2021 model. Road noise is tolerable at most but there's no wind noise. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's cheap low cost transportation. It drives flawlessly on highways at 120 mph. Know that Kia stripped the Rio from many standard amenities since introduction in 2012 like turn signal and foldable mirrors, 4 wheel disc brakes, choice of 10 colors, more colorful interior with more chrome and piano black accents and most of all, the direct injection. With a CVT now and a rustic less powerful engine, I wuld not buy another Rio which was my intent this year cause the Rio body is perfect for a suburban like me.

    When my family had to get our 2008 mazda 3 repaired, we used a completely basic kia rio, no special specs in white. Compared to the mazda 3, it was so much more sluggish and slow, and we even struggled to get up a hill that wasnt hard AT ALL for the mazda 3.

    • @delplaya5
      @delplaya5 Před 2 lety

      Cars are in different classes. Mazda 3s are great, arguably the best compact car. If you get compact class engine performance in a subcompact why buy the compact? Unless you need a little more space which really isn't all that much more if the subcompact is a hatch? Look at the Mazda 2, they don't sell it in the US but it is probably just as sluggish as the Rio which is in the same class.

    I was so excited for this until I saw there's no manual transmission. With such limited power, being able to control the shift point is super important to me. Won't ever buy an automatic or CVT. Bummer. Are there any plans to offer the manual in the future in the US? I think other countries get a manual...? Could be wrong on that.

    This would be the perfect cheap hatch if they added the turbo powertrain from the seltos, added heated seats sunroof and premium sound system could call it the rio GT and it wouldn’t hurt forte GT sales if they detuned the engine by like 20 horsepower.

    Compact? I thought this was a Subcompact? And wow over 2700 lbs for a subcompact car. That a 1990 Honda Accord curb weight. The 1.6 is smoother now? I drove a manual Rio years ago and it felt very industrial.. manuals in cars are only good with engines that like to rev imo. Still like the car since the market is so dry here. With they made a true sporty model.
