Thuren Rear Track Bar Install on RAM 2500 Power Wagon

  • When you take the stock Power Wagon over any sort of bumpy road or off-road track the back end skips and hops all over the place. I talked to @CJCOffroad about this and they recommended that I install the Thuren Fabrication rear track bar. The new track bar is longer, which changes the pivot point and, in turn, reduces the side-to-side movement of the rear axle. This settles down the rear movement considerably; making it a “great bang for the buck” upgrade. In this video I’ll show you what tools you need and how to install it.

    I just installed the Thuren front and rear track bars along with Bilstien 5160 remote reservoir shocks. Felt a big difference in ride quality and no more rear end waggle.

    Thanks for the video. I will be having some new suspension components installed on my PW next week. The Thuren 1-1/2” front kit which includes the Thuren front track bar and Fox 2.0 IFP shocks. On the rear I am going with Carli R2 coils, Carli end sway bar links, Thuren Fox 2.0 IFP shocks and Thuren rear track bar. According to CJC Offroad, the Carli R2 coils should work well with the Thuren Fox 2.0 IFP shocks.

      Nice - sounds like an awesome setup - I'd be curious what you think of it once you've driven with it for a while.

      @@goofingoffroad Definitely. Will be doing some reviews on the setup over time.

    i did the Thuren on the front and back along with their springs all the way around plus a few other things like Octane front and rear high clearance bumpers, love it all! ty for the video

      Thanks for the shoutout! What springs did you put on the back and did it stiffen up the ride too much?

      @@goofingoffroad Thuren makes a set for leveling the front end and both the front and rear are slightly softer, I don’t haul much more than dirt bikes and quads so I didn’t need the stiffness, probably wouldn’t be optimal for you and the load you are hauling but definitely easier on the spine lol. I live close to Thuren and they are a good group of people that don’t try to sell you something you don’t need. Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

      @@goofingoffroad absolutely, I see you are already knowledgeable and mechanically inclined but if you ever have a question about something I’m happy to answer for what I have experienced with my truck lol it’s a 2019 and I’ve done everything myself like you do, a couple things I was hesitant about and was trying to find someone who had done it but wasn’t much out there. I am a retired army combat medic and not a mechanic by any means but happy to help where I can

    Hi Tony, cool video as always,
    im planing to use PW for long distance overlanding trip and border crossing thro couple of countries.
    Im ok with mpg's but wanna ask you if its good choice or i should look at different vehicle. I picked PW as it's perfect for its offroading and spacious size.
    Im a bit worried of payload capacity as i have 3 adult on board, bed cab, roof tent, spare tire, decked drawers, some water storage, camping tools andcthing and extra 30 gallon Auxiliary feul tank.
    In total cargo and passengers im maxed out at 1500 lbs, gonna have sag tho. Should i put a airbags in rear to help with the sag?
    what do you recommend? Thanks

      Sam, I honestly don’t have a ton of experience with this platform. I’d definitely recommend the Thuren rear track bar to settle the rear end. As far as complimentary options I’d recommend giving CJC off-road a call as they work on full-sized trucks all the time and have a smorgasbord of different products to mix and match to get where you need to be. If you do call them I’d appreciate you telling them I made the referral. Good luck, and I wish you all the best on your over-landing trip. That sound amazing!

      Might want to try the Carli R2 coils in the rear. I am also putting on the Thuren 1-1/2” coils in the front along with changing out the shocks for the longer wheel travel, etc. I will be posting more content after the install with some weights of my 2024 PW soon and how it sits front to rear. I will still have available cargo load weight remaining, but might give you an idea how it might work for your application. Will also be weighing the entire truck after the build is complete.

    Did you jack up the axle and take the tire off like the instructions suggest or just work on it as it sits? Great video, thks!

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad  Před 10 měsíci +1

      There's no need to remove the spare tire. With the track bar it is easier to take it off and put the new one on when the truck is on the ground. Raising up the truck will put the bolt holes out of alignment and make it much harder to do.

    Im confused on what the spacer is for. I don't see a purpose for it during the install ifit is just removed and the track bar is installed in that location.

    About how long did the install take? Also, do you have any new PW vids coming out?

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad  Před 8 měsíci

      I would say that if you have all the tools and sharp drill bits, this would take about 2 hours. You don't need to lift truck off the ground, which helps. New videos heading this way soon...

    Does this help with tow squatting?

    • @goofingoffroad
      @goofingoffroad  Před 6 měsíci

      In my experience, no. I tow a couple of different trailers up to about 7,800 lbs. But it dramatically improves the driving experience, whether you are towing or not. I would say this is the #1 upgrade to do when you get the truck.
