  • This clip is one of my all-time favorite film scenes. It is from the movie "Little Murders," starring Elliott Gould. This particular scene stars Donald Sutherland, who presides over the ceremony as the minister/shaman.
As a little background to the scene.....Elliott Gould plays the shy/quiet/pacifist groom, while is his bride-to-be is an outspoken, feminist-type character. The pudgy man in the glasses is the father-of-the-bride; he is the one that has offered money to Donald Sutherland to mention God in the ceremony.
The rest pretty much stands on its own. I put this up here because I really like Donald Sutherland's speech; in some ways I wish I could just play it at my own wedding in the future. I'm not saying that I believe in everything Donald Sutherland says in the vows, but I think the gist of it is right on.

"Betrayal is allright-It's part of who we are" LOL Haha-Genius, i think that's my favorite line. Great when he was re-wording vows, though. So cool.

The guy who just starts throwing trash out the window as the riot comes of the church is my hero.

My favorite movie of all time. And Jules Feiffer, the writer of the 60s play (and then 70s screenplay) was a genius and prophetic. He predicted, before it even happened, the fall of our civilization, which we see unfolding before our eyes, tragically.

thanks, one of my all-time favorite scenes also. the entire film is dark and funny and conveys the absurdity of our species and existence like few other films. Another great Alan Arkin film.

I saw this with my father and we both enjoyed it very much... especially the wedding scene. He was really laughing when the brother-in-law jumped up to strangle the preacher.
