Juliette is so much bigger now and looks so much like Marc. Clement gets a big boy bed - boy kids grow so fast. I like the bed - very nice.
Amy, in the States we call them Cannonball beds. Check that out! My chickens stopped laying in the Fall. I figured out it was the change of light; shortening of days. Miss my ducks and geese. They had awesome eggs! Clement is darling. Juliette is getting so big!

You have a tent for Marc you use in the garden so Clement would be like Daddy. I'd make a little "pup tent." Horizonal pole across the top, attached to two short posts bolted in the middle of the head and foot of the bed. Drape a sheet or blanket over the top and attach at the bed corners. Amy, you may be able to do this with some spare 1" x 2" wood; a drill, screwdriver, and handsaw. No need for Marc to be involved at all. 😘

When my son finally shook his bed so much when he woke in the mornings it was falling apart, we bought a bunk bed for him a put his cot mattress on the floor so if he did fall out of it it was safer for him. Love you videos xxx

If you are worried about Clement falling out of bed apple pie a flat single sheet. It halves the length of the bed with bedding so he can’t disappear down the bed and you can tuck him in tight which will help keep him in place.
Oh lovely! It's a real milestone when it's time for the "Big Boy Bed"! My Dad built a little bed the same size as a cot, but as a divan with draws underneath. He had a mattress made to fit, a beautiful quality innerspring mattress. That bed was used by every child who needed to be out of the cot, including my own. I remember asking my Mum when to put my son into a bed, and her reply was "when he climbs out of the cot". Only a few days later I discovered my son sitting happily on top of his chest of drawers - he'd climbed out of the cot onto them! So I phoned Mum and said the time had come - Big Boy Bed please! I too was concerned about him falling out, Dad's solution was a panel attached to the bed and up to about 20cm above the mattress, and about 75cm long, enough to stop rolling out, but easy to get in and out. that was over 40 years ago, and seeing Clement's bed made me remember it all so vividly! I hope you've all recovered now, tummy bugs are the worst to deal with for littlies, aren't they? No fun for adults either! Much love and big hugs xxx

We used a foam roller cut in half and put under the bottom sheet close to the edge of the bed to stop my toddler granddaughter from falling out. We liked to think of them as “speed humps”!! Worked a treat… and were soft if she rolled into them. Didn’t do any damage to the bed frame like some of the bars we tried.

My grandfather, who had a lot of chickens told me once, they stop laying for a little bit when the seasons change..and then when they are used to it they will lay again, and then stop because they little sods hate the winter lol ( his words lol)
In the U.S. we pay extra for wormholes. haha Love the old bed. Fun video!
I strongly suggest just using the mattress on the floor for Clement until he is ready to not fall out of bed. Easy Peasy.
Too dusty in an old place like this! And cold that low down!
depending in how attached you are to the bed in general, it might be an idea to let Clement have a go at „decorating“ it with some paint. It would make a big mess and the bed probably won‘t ever be an heirloom piece, but he might start liking it again. And get excited about sleeping in his own bed that he even decorated! You might even be able to salvage the bed afterwards by stripping / sanding it back down or painting over it.
Amazingly he just decided, after a week, that he liked it again and is back in it! Phew!

I found that the longer chickens have light the longer they will produce eggs. Of course not during the night since everyone needs their sleep.
Ours roam free outdoors all day and used to lay all winter but seem to be on strike now!
The bed is quite cute. Maybe it would be possible to shorten the headboard, footboard and rebuild the duckboard to fit the width of the mattress. You could screw temporary wooden barriers to the sides.
Please be careful with the use of woodworm treatment, although Marc assured us it being very safe (and I’m sure that’s what is written on the tin) it might have some side effects (at least it’s killing the woodworm)

My son's big boy bed was a loft bed that was tall enough for his chest of drawers to go under and had space for building lego underneath. Whe he first started sleeping in it we had a side that hooked on to stop him from rolling out at night.

Amy, my daughter got some foam border/barriers about 3-4 feet long that sit under the bottom sheet along the edge . I've also just rolled up a blanket into a long firm tube and put it at the outer long edge of the mattress (under the sheet). Yea MDF furniture is terrible - just doesn't stand up to kids. Your bed is marvelous.

I'd use this beautiful bed you have skip thr four posters (they'd need to be very sturdy to allow for playing around in bed, leaning on or climbing them) and instead make a lovely separate bed crown fixed to the wall or hung from the ceiling from which you can hang a canopy!
You could find one at a broccante or build a wooden box with nice moulding around it or simply hang wooden dowels from the ceiling in roughly the size of the bed from which you then hang a canopy with or without a horizontal top panel. Which ever you chose you want to make it strongly fixed to the wall/ceiling to withstand downward pressure of tugging at the fabric at any time. Safety first.
A friend of mine had a super solution to this. To insure safety, she used a big hoolahoop, spraypainted it, hung it with wire from the ceiling and hung lots of half transparent fabric with buttoned loops at the top as well as internal fairy ledlights. It looked like the starry sky at night, with blue fabric! At the event of it falling down it could never hurt a child. The circular hoop made it very 18th century and a bit like a tent inside.
For a square version you could use simple plastic plumbing pipe or lightweight bamboo from a garden center.
If your boy os reluctant to sleep in "the vomit bed" I'd give it a coat of paint and involve him in helping to chose between swatches and giving him a brush for a while, and making a simple safe canopy to match and he'll experience it as a whole new bed for certain. He's still so young and at a bouncy age, I'd save a four poster bed for a boy around 10 who's not a risk of getting himself hurt tumbling around.
If you want to make this beautiful bed you have "stoppers" from falling out of it, I'd perhaps cut a circle of any wooden table top or counter top material and then into equal fourths and secure them to each corner of the frame. It will be just as easy getting in and out in the center of the bed but insure he wont fall out lying down. Fourths of a square cut diagonally work too. Putting a childs bed legthwize against a wall provides a sence of security and direction to tired children, the wall anchors them even in their sleep. This is why childrens beds back in the day were often built for this. With only one side to get in an out of and a wall to lean on on the other. It also makes more play space in the room.
It’s a bit hard to put a bed against the wall in a round room!

Pigs like balls to play with but they have to be strong so they can’t eat them, they also love eggs. IKEA used to have great kids beds that arrive in a box to assemble. They used to have this thing that attached to the ceiling and was big and round and bright green that was basically a swing they could lay on, I wanted one big enough for me so I could sleep on it and I could pretend I was sleeping in a tree and gentle breezes rocked me. I know, I’m crazy but they make great things for kids these days compared to what there was when we were little. We had metal beds that weren’t pretty at all 😢
I hope Clement sleeps in his bed soon, it can be a hard transition at the best of times but vomiting and feeling sick might be something a little one could attribute to the bed. Bad bed, bad bed😳
