I think talking more about life 'after' recovery would be very helpful. I am just starting to watch these videos to learn. It's been about 15 years chronic pain/CFS combo, so I am full of doubts and fears and disappointments. I want to learn about other people's recovery and in an honest way, know how their thoughts have been . That would be helpful for people that are on the BRINK of losing hope. ❤❤❤THANK YOU FOR THIS CHANNEL!

Being a perfectionist holds a lot of people back from recovery. It's hard because you need to change from type A to type B. There are beliefs we have and childhood experiences/trauma that we have gone that created us to be type A. Great Interview Raelan!

So inspiring to see this recovery story. It sounds like the brain retraining approach that worked in the end was similar to the Lightning Process STOP technique. This sort of thing can be learned for free in the book by Loz Evans “a rational approach to ME and CFS recovery” there are free PDFs if you google for it. Also this technique is taught in full in Phil Parker’s book “how to get the life you love now”.

This is xy recovery story i've listened to in the past year, but the first one i'm commenting on.
I'm in the middle of a setback, doubting everything and anything... and this felt like the salve on my wound.
    It was so reassuring.
Raelan, thank you for not interrupting her and letting her fully express herself.
It somehow resonates with me and gives me so much hope. It's honest, authentic, raw, considerate, soothing.
It managed to calm my brain that sometimes thinks i have to become this completely different person to heal and be well and we all know how hard it is to change even one thing, let alone whole personality.
Thank you. Hugs to both of you for doing this. (:

More interviews like this please! Also would love to hear more interviews with people who took a long time to recover despite using all the mind body techniques. Hi there, I completely understand you as I was in a similar situation and severely ill with 56 symptoms (many of which severe, around the heart, blood vessels inflammation, inability to sleep more than 90 mins a night etc. etc.). I felt I belonged into a intensive care unit (ICU), yet I was at home on my own. One key aspect that got me through the worse in the early stages (before I knew any of these CFS/Long Covid help channels existed), was to let go of resistance. To believe fully that my body can self heal (even if I could not figure out at the time how and I was in so much pain), just to trust regardless.
I imagined a beautiful garden....and how the garden if it is deprived of love, and care, sun, water, and good soil will struggle, look dry, and needs to defeat pests. Once you give it TIME & LOVE & CARE the garden WILL self-recover, because nature always strives for HEALTHY BALANCE. Nature and your body know how to do it, if you do not intervene (e.g. with control or negative self-talk). But it takes trust and a little practice. And once you KNOW - as heard in this interview today - you can make leaps! Change your story:
      trapped. I

Thank you Kato, it was lovely to listen to you, your honesty and openness. I think your occasional worry are all part of the process. in our culture we find it normal to be 'on the hamster wheel', that's only going in 'one speed only' and at risk of going faster. Maybe when you get the worry it's your mind and body warning you to slow down a bit, in need of further self care..? I also thought of the need to recognise any learning process has a face of 'consolidating' When you have learned something new consolidating as a phase is so easily overlooked. When we finally get our driving licence than the the real learning and integrating starts when we drive on our own, as part of the traffic, and that will take a while before every thing you have learned becomes 2nd nature. The little mistakes you will make will alert you more and pay more attention. It's the same with managing our body and life. My daughter is also ill with long covid. She lives in the Netherlands. Would you be willing to give some details of your coach? No idea if she is open to it but would be nice to have it on hand if she would be receptive. Enjoy your life Kato, aligned and 'marinated' with your self care needs.❤😊

Super helpful! I do need rest, but I just listen to my body and at the same time tell my brain all is well and do verbal/thought based brain training. Less rest is needed over time, even in a crash now. For me it’s a lot of trauma triggers, so the brain training is around trauma recovery (working with a therapist for some of that).

They have it all together, they’ve really changed themselves “. I can’t wait until I recover and get ‘there’’. But I see now that there is no ‘there’ because we are continually learning and growing. We just use and keep using the tools we’ve learned along the way to help us manifest and manage a healthy version of ourselves (Perfectionist, doubter, helper etc) Love that person as you make the changes you need in your own life.

Thank you Raelen for this, she had some great points and reminders for me. I'm 'training' and many recovered folks have said the key is catching those negitive thoughts and replacing them. Catch as many as you can, and redirect, knowing the symptoms and thoughts of fear are coming from that part of the brain that is overreacting.
Raelen, you made an amazing point that I wondered if you could put together a video about: the tips and ways to keep your recovery. We hear tid bits from all over, but a video of that would be a HUGE reference for many who are looking for the "now what" phase. Thank you for considering that. Hugs to you.

i crashed from functional to bed bound in 9 weeks. i got weaker and weaker. now i can hardly go to the toilet. my biggest fear is not death, but lying in bed in diapers and being trapped in my own body. I'm already in a cfs program, but it hasn't helped me yet. i'm not afraid of any of the many symptoms, only of further deterioration because there would be no solution for me, no one to take care of me once i can no longer go to the toilet on my own. i think there is no recovery for such severe cases. someone who is completely confined to bed is hard to get out of. the body deconditions so violently, everything is exhausting, because everything is exhausting, you tend to crash. it's a vicious downward spiral. I don't know how you're ever supposed to get out of it.

Hi Raelan : ) I just want to thank you so much for all you do! I really found this video especially helpful for brain training. Kato mentioned something about the "phrasing" she was using in her brain training, so I started using it this morning and it is really helping me! The phrasing style is this: "I am DOING anxiety", "I am DOING worry", I am DOING reacting" etc. I am enrolled in a different recovery course that I am happy with, so I am just changing the phrasing I was already using, and I have really found this tweak to be extremely helpful! So thank you Raelan and Kato!!! I hope others find this helpful! You don't need to go to the Netherlands to implement this little change in your brain training : )

I don't understand what you're training if you're not an anxious or depressed person. My problem is that I get caught up in something I really enjoy, then I crash and i'm sick with migrain for days. Forget how the migraine was when I get a little bit of energy, and same crash comes. If I spent 4 hours cleaning my house, I'd spend 3 days in bed with a migraine and fever.

Kato seems like a very sweet person, great interview. I'm just starting my recovery journey, but can totally relate to the perfectionist & insecure mindset. Man, we're such a bunch of messed up people aren't we...haha. I try to look at this illness as a teacher. I'm still in the depth of it, but I am hopeful at least. Thank you.
P.S: Anyone have experience with the ANS Rewire Program? I'm curious whether I should go for that or the Gupta Program.

Hey Raelan, thanks for the wonderfull interview with the cute lady. It was very informative and I think I will try out the ANS rewire program. Im atm 18 month quite lonely on my recovery yourney and I was thinking for a long time if I should try a program or not, but after this interview I will give it a try and hopefully things will go well after my try and that I will feel not so lost with long covid.

Hi, thanks for watching and liking the video :) Kato has been trying to give an answer to your question, but her answers are not being registered for some reason. I will relay her answer to you (I'm her partner). We do not have permission (yet) to share the name of the coach, but we can tell you that she used to work at 'Ander Leven' and still follows their methods more or less. Maybe we can share the name of the coach on a later date. In any case, we wish you the best in helping your recovery.

Sounds like we r just depressed about our lives. We are perfectionists causing our own insecurities doubts due to FAILURES getting in our way of our goals. Major big losses, HEART BREAKS: EMOTIONS: FEELINGS of defeat. Can make us chronically exhausted. We r NOT SUPER WOMAN . We r HUMAN BEINGS. IMPERFECT. UNIQUE. BEAUTIFUL ABLE TO LEARN to live our lives with reasonable thoughts. Good SENSE. Self confidence & self CARE. SELF RESPECTING daily. Keep away from taking on too many challenges. Avoid getting injured . Stop self punishment. Stop being SO HARD ON ONE'S BODY. NURTURE IT. Daily. Hug ourselves daily. Throw yourself some kisses !!!

I think what Kato was describing is set backs? It is another form of anxiety that needs to be dealt with with the same approach, as in I am safe, I'm ok , and I just get tired just like other humans , to not let it scare you. Because recovery is not linear.
