  • Here is our 2022 sight in video of our new turkey shotgun added to the lineup. A tristar 20 guage and were determining whether we will be using TSS, Lead, and what choke? The choke being used is a carlsons XR choke in the video! Hope this is helpful for your shotgun patterning for turkey season this year.

    The TSS shot may be wonderful stuff but a lot of turkeys were killed with lead before the invent of alloy pellets. I only have so much money to spend on turkey hunting each spring. That being said, the price of gas is at all time high. I can fill up my truck for the price of 5 TSS shells. I can shoot lead and drive to a place to hunt or shoot TSS and walk. It is an easy choice. I killed a 23 lb bird yesterday with the 20 gauge Longbeard #6 at 25 yards. Didn't even flop. Remington 870 with 21" barrel. Choke is a .565 XX full Comp-n-choke.

      I bet a lot of turkeys were killed with arrows before the invent of firearms. Carve an arrow from a hickory limb and reuse it every year for free!

    You don’t need those expensive shells just 2 3/4 high brass 4 shot I’m not wasting my money on 50 dollar for 5 shells or the fancy expensive chokes not knocking it but I won’t do it

    I shot both the apex loads through my 20 gauge also , using a long beard xr choke….. both very similar, and I did notice the blends did kick like a mule!…. Can’t go wrong with either one imo.

    Everyone says don’t overchoke with TSS. Well my 20 gauge with an Indian Creek .555 flat and Small town blend patterns better than any 20 I’ve ever seen. Much better than those patterns. Try an Indian Creek .555 or .562

    Thanks for the comment about the comparison of energy the tss carries in relation to a lead shot. ie 7 tss hits like a 2.5 lead shot and a 9 tss hits like a 4. I've not heard anyone put it like that before. Means a big deal since I'm switching from a 12 guage with #5 XR to a 20 guage with #7 tss

    • @DIYHunter
      @DIYHunter  Před rokem +1

      So you’ll actually be increasing your Bb count damn near 500 pellets. And sending more energy down range with the 7 than you were with the 5. By a lot.

      Also meant to add that here in ontario Canada the smallest shot size we can use is 7. Might be something to bring up with my local hunting group and see if the MNR is looking at ballistic reports.

    Love the small town blends the 7.5s pack the punch while the 9s cover the pattern. The .568 is not too open at all actually I’ve pattern these better out of .570 -585 chokes. Tss really patterns better when not over choked. I. Have that same tristar G2 it’s how do you like the ff4 I’ve been looking at upgrading my red dot.

    Try some Wind Hill Precision TSS. They are made in MS just like Apex. Both great companies. My 20 ga prefers Windy Hill Precision TSS. I have no affiliation with either. Enjoyed your video.

      That set at about 40, didn’t use the .550 everyone does to shoot 70 yards little more open choke. Wanted a 45 and in gun but not to miss at 20 because it’s a 4” ball going out

    Buddy, all we care about is seeing the pattern on paper. We all know we can then move your sights, scope, or red dot. So many CZcamsrs waste time trying to explain this.

    Apex #9 looks perfect on that shot and is not too high. I like the shots to hit the neck and mostly head and not any on the breast meat. That #9 is perfect, I would leave it
