Thanks for another great video Ryan! I'd love to see your take on one of my 3 favourite 90s vampire films, "Bram Stokers Dracula", "Interview With The Vampire" or believe it or not "Vampire In Brooklyn"!
"Messiah of evil 1976" 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
The Fear Street trilogy on Netflix.
i’m sorry but the theatre employee spiking POPCORN with LSD ?????? that’s FUCKING CRAZY

Reminds me of "Climax"
Hell yeah sounds like a great cinema experience
Crazy expensive! What with inflation and all.
Terrible. Just terrible. Ugh, where can we find this terrible place?
Fun fact: Oralee is played by Nicole Tompkins, who is the current voice of Jill Valentine in Resident Evil 3 Remake and Death Island.
RE Village too, as the voice of Daniela Dimitrescu. I love it when people talk about her movies, her film career seems to be more underrated than her VA work.
@@risa408 That's right! Omg, go Nicole!
I thought she looked familiar! She's so fucking cool, I hope her career really takes off so I can see her in more stuff.
Oralee ? Ooooh you naughty girl

The scariest thing in this video far is checking the calender for Mothers Day 🤣

Why? Don`t you respect and love your mom???
@@diamondhamster4320I do love her, but I don’t like her
@@diamondhamster4320 I do. I forget dates all the time, and this year is especially tough because she's in the hospital to potentially lose her leg while me and my older sibling had to enact Power of Attorney because she was so out of it, so the days have been slipping by under anxiety, dread, and trying to figure things out.
I didn't want to forget this one, I want her to remember that we love and care for her.
it really should have been a mockumentary where we only see a few brief scenes and not the Whole Thing tbh.
I felt that would've helped build up the mystique more than showing the full film.
That's what i thought it was at first, really wish it had been. That sounds more interesting
I think that's why it's "been altered" to suggest it's missing parts. But ya you're right. Begotten 1989 would work well for this
Internet theorists would have given the film all the publicity if it were more obtuse and ambiguous. It's the way to go viral
I dunno I think the mockumentary thing is really overplayed and over rated
The filmakers did a really good job in making it period accurate, that kid looks more a 70s child actor than any actual child actor from that era
To think it could all have been avoided if their mom hadn't been a total jerk saying their dog went to hell. Mom score: 0/5
A lot of horrible actions have stemmed from fears put in us by our elders, based on fears their elders put into them. The fear of hell and condemnation is a big one.
Right!!! Lmao, like wtf!!! I would be traumatized if my Mom told me that.
Yeah, that was dumb. Everyone knows all dogs go to heaven and then greet you at the Rainbow Bridge (not to be confused with Graffiti Bridge) when you die. Geesh, some people are clueless 🙂
I guess digging a hole to hell to save a dog's life is cheaper than a trip to the vet.
the dog wasnt dying. he had to be put down because he attacked someone
@@joshsheler7036 More likely self-defended rather than attacked. Pull its tail, earn the nip. The child is the problem not the dog.
@@joshsheler7036 Yeah, it's weird how the original commenter missed when it was clearly stated why the dog died at 6:10; it was euthanized when it attacked their youngest sibling.
Unless you get captured down there😈
Based and orpheuspilled
Needs a sequel called "Antrim" and it's just a purely normal documentary about life in NI.
That'd be much scarier 😂
I'd rather be dropped into a Slasher film than walk around some parts of Belfast at night XD
A different kind of deadly.
About somebody who rims ants?
Hahahaha. Nice, mate
The weird thing is that this movie wasn’t even very scary lol. I really liked it, but I wasn’t terrified or anything.
Any run of bad luck after watching it ? lol
Not really the point but well done I guess?

Real life is always more horrifying than any movie
Always depends on what state of mind you are in.
There's something that I find interesting about this film, it doesn't give the cursed film a backstory. Usually with these kinds of stories, they give background about the filmmakers and the actors and talk about how "strange things happened during the movie's production" or that the actors died tragic accidents either during the film's creation or after it was finished, or even imply that the director was a satanist and this film was like some kind of front for a ritual and tricked the rest of the crew into thinking that it was a typical horror film. This film doesn't do any of that, and I personally think that it adds more to the cursed film's mystique (even though the mockumentary never once acknowledges or even debates about who made the film, where the actors are, etc.).
That many people didn't die on accident my uncles my aunt wife had a heartache then my cousin killed herself I saw this film ages ago my dog was growing at my TV and two nights later my curtains in my room lit on fire no light socket no candles some people don't understand what they fear I'm not saying im better than you are not better than me take
@@Andrew-cq7uz I don't understand a word you're saying.
love the subtle example of the binaural audio when describing it. its the little things that count
Didn't know my phone had stereo lol
It caught me off guard, and I had to go back to check it again. It's things like that that show how much effort he already does and is willing to put in
Honestly, this movie feels like a better take of _Fury of the Demon,_ which was a movie about an alleged "lost" movie by Georges Méliès, the man who made _A Trip to the Moon._ However that film focused way too much on painting the film as "spooky and satanic" while not showing _anything_ about the film itself. _Antrum_ seems to show what the movie _IS_ and that is horrifying.
Interesting because I thought Fury of the Demon did better on the concept than Antrum did. Maybe because of the volume of vintage films I've sat through in varying stages of falling apart, but I just wasn't sold on the premise of 'this is the actual vintage film' since it did look more like 'this is shot on digital and we slapped on the film grain' compared to other films that went and filmed on the traditional medium, tweaking it from there. Fury worked better for me in showing the other films of Melies' student who likely made Fury coupled with the interviews of the survivors. It made the lost film feel more dangerous and potentially legit arcane compared to Antrum's other people's actions and stringing coincidence together like how Poltergeist's claimed as a cursed film.
This is more a blatant rip off of John Carpenters "Cigarette Burns"
I like that you talked about that tulpa interpretation. After I watched the film for the first time after Mista GG talked about it, I thought about the discussion during the credits and the events of the story and believed it to be about tulpas, and turned the film into something more profound than just a simple creepypasta-esque mockumentary about a cursed movie with a satanic power. I also really liked how it handled Nathan and Oralee essentially becoming complete opposites by the end of the film and took advantage of an idea that I want to see more in horror that's a horrifying take on this idea. What I mean by this is that in horror and even comedies, someone makes something up (and I mean they make it up 100% by themselves and not base it off of something), either as some kind of prank, some other plan or just a simple scary story, but by the end it's somehow inexplicably real. Whenever that happens, I'm honestly like "Ok, the characters need to question this more because none of this makes any fucking sense!" But here, Nathan already believes her lies and as the film progresses, Oralee is becoming terrified and confused about how all of this is becoming real to the point that she confesses the truth to Nathan. But to make things even worse for her mental state, Nathan says that he spoke to Ike (a demon that Oralee completely made up), before all of this even happened and told him about Oralee's lies (which I personally interpret as the tulpa becoming so powerful that it literally changed the past so that it seems like Ike was always there). After this, it's as if Nathan is slowly and subconsciously accepting the truth when the demons no longer chase him and when he finds "Cerberus," he realizes that it's just normal dog stuck in a bear trap, a dog that turns out to be friendly, not the three headed demonic dog that guards the underworld, and after that, it's like Nathan is finally at peace and accepts the reality that there are no demons. Meanwhile, Oralee is the complete opposite and it's like the tables turned on her (even if her intentions were just to help her brother). All that composure is gone and the demons and Cerberus are still chasing her. She's reduced to a screaming and crying mess, she can't comprehend how something she made up became real, to the point where she's now gaslighted herself into believing that her own made up stories are true, and thus, the demons never went away for her, they're still tormenting her. It's incredibly tragic and terrifying for these poor kids. Also, I never made that Adam and Eve connection with the snuff film. That makes more sense and is much cooler than just "ooh, spooky snuff film spliced in cursed movie that will kill you" (though I still immerse myself into it, regardless of the cheesy meta concept. Update: The last time we see them, they're dead with a bitten apple next to them, so now we know that the Adam and Eve symbolism is correct). What's also cool about this movie is that there are no jumpscares, it uses atmosphere, slow pacing, surreal imagery and preys on any superstitious fears you might have (that one scene that Mista GG praised where it's just the demon's face in the darkness with no music aside from the crackling of film and no jumpscare. That face can also be seen elsewhere in the film in scenes like 7:11 and in the darkness near the end of that long silent shot, it kind of looks like it's smiling and laughing but we don't hear anything).
my thoughts exactly
The part where the demons face just stays on screen for what feels like hours was the scariest part to me
Also weird bigfoot like things standing behind the trees
that part gave me chills even tho i watch a lot of horror lol
I always get really excited when I see a creepy thumbnail, an intriguing title, and your name right under it.
Your videos help me get into the horror headspace for my own writing and it’s awesome.
Here’s a weird case of Mandela effect: until now I was convinced that Ryan already reviewed ‘Anthrum’ and his review convinced me to watch the movie
I swear I had already seen this video from Ryan. Thank God I'm not going crazy, at least not alone.
I swear this is a reupload
Your probably thinking of the foundflix video on it
You might’ve seen a foundflix ending explained about it. That’s the only reason I found this movie
@@hillaryheath220 does FoundFlix's video end with like a minute-long shot of the demon in the end? Because I was half expecting this one to end that way.
Howyever: "Who are you?"
Cerebus: "I'm you, but Cerberus"
I thought Cerebus was the weird aardvark comic character who hates women.
@@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick He is, but it's an easy name to confuse with Cerberus.
@@artCharles It helps to pronounce it right - "kerberus" (or "kerberos" in the original Greek). Makes it harder to mentally confuse the two.
@@snorpenbass4196 I didn't know it was supposed to be pronounced that way. I guess you do learn something new every day.
I do like the aesthetic of old black and white horror movies though. The slight sped up look, the way the camera seems more fixed because of set and camera limitations. I wish that was used more. The little flickers of old movie aesthetics are cool.

Watched THIS video with headphones. Nice touch with the audio moving back and forth as you talked about it. Chef’s kiss indeed!
I’d love to hear a film historian take on Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Just a structured video about where the studio was and what might have almost worked about it vs what in its parody didn’t hold water.
I actually like the movie but it felt very different from most of Mel Brooks's other films. They tended to be straight up farces that used a lot of meta humor like fourth wall breaks, anachronistic gags, references to other works (including Brooks's own movies) and other things that wouldn't be present in a standard movie. D:DALI is basically just an adaptation of Dracula but as a comedy. There's sight gags and humor that plays with the story, but it also doesn't delve into the farcical elements his previous movies used and even played some of it's more dramatic and creepy parts straight, which is really weird from a director who made a joke out of EVERYTHING.
Dracula dead and loving it is an awesome movie, it's freaking hilarious!
I feel like a big part of the issue is that Nielsen felt like he was in on the joke for D:DALI, instead of being the straight man character of “Airplane!” and “Police Squad.” Mel Brooks’s best work is deeply reliant on (nearly all of) the characters taking the nonsense seriously.
Similar to how Nielsen’s performances in “Spy Hard” and “Wrongfully Accused” fell flat, and why the “History of the World” follow-up flopped.
@@ZackC I’m actually willing to come to batt for the History of the World sequel but get your meaning. It still be great to see a more analytical take on it.
@@ZackC his character was better in Police Squad than in the films for the reason you mentioned. I do love those first two movies though
I have never seen a film with so many obscure references for the devil tbh, like hiccups were even featured! Also this was def a movie for ppl who love scary urban legends surrounding films. I really loved this film for doing that!
Can you list all the references?
What takes me out the most is just how much it doesn’t look like an old movie lol. If your movie’s framing device is this is an old and cursed movie then you better try and do whatever you can to dirty up that film to make it look like it was shot on film (or even just shoot it on film yourself). I think something like “Project Avalanche” achieved this effect better by shooting on digital but printing it onto actual 16mm before physically deteriorating the film before scanning it back to digital.
Did you mean “Operation Avalanche”?
It’s not just film.
Far more is the lighting, the make up, costume differences and color saturation, as well as techniques in color correction, and all aspects of how movies were made, that just aren’t used or even known anymore.
I’ve seen cheap 70’s movies, that have been digitized, straight from the original film, and it still has a layer that just makes most colors duller, or has some effect on the overall image.
Just makeup used, was different, because it was before they weren’t allowed to test it on animals, snd there were different chemicals used, that no longer do.
Sometimes a movie feels like a 70’s or 80’s movie, but I’ve never seen one that I’d actually think was pre-2000, thst anyone has tried to do.
The Lighthouse has scenes, that look like it could’ve been made in those eras, but there are others that make it clear it isn’t.
Scorsese had the same editor, on a majority of his films, until she passed away.
They changed with the times too, as his 70’s work differs from the 80’s, and then he has a similar look on Goodfellas and Casino, while changing again, from Gangs onward.
Exactly, it felt too artificial to take seriously as a “haunted found film”. Imagine how much more impactful it would have been if the found film was in the style of a movie like Begotten.
@@CorbCorbinYou are right tho small correction, if you meant Thelma Schoonmaker then she’s actually still alive and recently edited Killers of the Flower Moon.

@@Jeseabell The Twilight Zone movie, not the Twilight movie. But yes, actor Vic Morrow and child actors Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen were all decapitated by a helicopter. Awful situation all around.

The only value I see in creating your own "cursed film" mythos, outside of mockumentaries, is if you pulled a The Tingler and provided an in-theatre experience.

The hungarian text on the "The End" overlay is a misspelling of the phrase "Félelem teszi a farkast naggyá" which means "Fear is what makes the wolf [appear] big"
You posting this made me finally get around to watching it. I found it surprisingly engaging, even with the micro budget and barely-there script. The spooky imagery and well thought out lore really hooked me and I ended up really enjoying it. A solid no-budget horror film
Saw this in Tubi and I loved the main story. It perfectly captured the feel of the subtler horror genre of midcentury where you're wondering, "is this a metaphor for puberty/pregnancy/midlife with some cults and rubber demon masks?" (Alison's Birthday/Rosemary's Baby/Season of the Witch). The storytelling is great, and the actors and cinematography really had me invested in the characters and their arc. Problem is I keep forgetting about the snuff film clips every time I show it to people. Ugh! Awkward!
the true beauty of the "most replayed" feature is that it showcases a common interest of the audience. often, this a funny moment, or a particularly important one- say a step in a series of steps that is particularly confusing, or a joke that hit particularly hard. truly, it is indeed sublime, how this feature works, almost like a "desire path" in a digital format. specifically, i simply adore the desire path the community forms around sponsored segments- of note, this video's most replayed section is around the 1:30 mark.
Antrum resonated with my child of the 70's creepy Saturday afternoon horror movies vibe. Even the yellow tinge makes me think of watching TV in summer.
Thanks for another great video Ryan! I'd love to see your take on one of my 3 favourite 90s vampire films, "Bram Stokers Dracula", "Interview With The Vampire" or believe it or not "Vampire In Brooklyn"!
I never thought I'd come across another person who loved Vampire in Brooklyn. I thought I was the only one.
@@MSinistrari I don't get the hate, it's not perfect but it has it's funny moments and is a nice take on a 'modern' (90s) take on the dracula story. The boat, the servant, the old vampire slayer, its all there. Plus there's decent 90s horror in it.
The sound isolating to specific ears section was very clever. I loved that!
Switching the audio from right to left while talking about isolating it was a very clever editing trick
I loved the “actual” film it’s self and felt that the “deadliest film” wrapper did the film a disservice overall, although admittedly I did enjoy the little intrusive modifications to the film which relied upon the wrapper to make sense. I was born in 1972 and felt that it really captured the feel of something from the 1970’s.
I fell asleep watching a different movie on Tubi, and i woke up in the middle of night to that scene with the devil just staring at the screen... that was the first i knew of this movie, so it got me.
When i sat down to watch it after that, i REALLY liked it. Very atmospheric, and it fits in a genre i call "Hell Horror", the scariest kind to me.
That scene where the screen goes blank only for it to slowly reveal the demon staring at the audience was great.

Fantastic review. I'd seen the film a while back, and while I was left with some questions at the time, you /Ryan managed to expound upon its subject matter in a such an elucidating manner as to promptly clear up any of those remaining questions. The audio panning for 2 seconds was a good goof
I think we have a world record for "heow-evers" from Ryan in this video.
I thought you said "chalupas". Way back when a company called ZBS produced an audio version of Stephen King's "The Mist" recorded in binaural sound. Fun stuff. It aired in the states on NPR.
It has a great tutorial: you're seated in the center of vast empty room, a heavy metal door opens some distance away then the sound of high heels make their way to you and stops behind you. A exotic woman with an accent begins directing you on how to wear and adjust your earphones.
haha I had that on cassette tape back in the day. It was pretty neat.
Antrum would play well in a double feature with Equinox (1970), an equally disjointed and grubby looking minor horror movie.
Man, I have begging you for years to review Antrum, finally I can rest. THANKS!°!!!!!
All of the movie's events could've been avoided if the mom had just shut their mouth about the dog...
I swear I wasn't expecting the audio to switch when he did that and caused me to jump slightly.
I'm surprised there was no mention of the extremely similar subject matter to John Carpenter's "Cigarette Burns" from Masters of Horror.
American Horror Stories tried to copy that with the movie Rabbit Rabbit (from the episode "Drive In"), but the scariest thing in this episode is a trans kid who dresses like Boy George.
Oh, this movie! My parents and I watched it over the holidays one year. I was the only one who was at all scared (because I’m a big ‘fraidy cat), and even I didn’t find it that unsettling. I still think the ideas it had are cool, though. And I like your take on the tulpa aspect. Thanks for covering it, Ryan!
keep kicking ass ryan, love the content!
Kind of a divisive movie but I really like it. I love the atmosphere and there are moments that do creep me out even if not all of it works. I remember watching a video about the making of the original Blair Witch Project and they mentioned that there was originally going to be a documentary framing device but the filmmakers decided that the original footage would be stronger on its own and I wonder if that would have been the case for this movie as well.
I gotta admit, I love gimmicks like this (mockumentaries, unreality, etc) so I'll probably check Antrum out!
Tulpas are some of my FAVOURITE CREATURES EVER I cheer audibly whenever they show up in a film or book 😍
"isolated in specific ears" I had this on in the background and it unintentionally jumpscared me.

Love the little nod with the speakings going from left to right just before the 6 minute mark. Nice one Ryan and yes this is on my list now. I may have to bother the husband for raycons for our anniversary.
The movie where it’s appropriate to ask, “yea but did you die?”
Roar is also another film that had a deadly production. I can’t remember if any humans died but I’m pretty sure an animal did. There were a lot of hospitalizations though nothing as serious as an employee drugging people and ending in an innocent woman’s death 😞
the road to hell is paved with good intentions. hysteria is a hell of a drug
great video as always
I've seen Antrum a few times and I can say that it is one of my favorite mockumentaries no matter what anyone else says 😂😂
Honestly, I'd love to see a binaural track for some blurays or something. I bet that would sound crazy.
Ngl I was so absorbed into the story that when the scene changed to the dude drinking coffee from the pot made me giggle
Hey Ryan thank you again for the videos
Never heard of this one. Thanks as always, good sir!
That's a tough one to put a finger on. You did, as usual, do admirably, Ryan. Cheers.
One of if not my favourite films is mulholland drive. It’s not entirely horror per say but if your looking for atmosphere it would be a supreme thing to cover
I appreciate ryan drinking coffee straight out of the pot
Yes thank you so much for summoning Astaroth into my home with this crazy video... I'm sure it'll be a lovely houseguest.
I know I watched this, but I honestly can't remember a single thing about it.
