DCS F/A-18C Tutorial 6 - A/G Radar Modes UPDATED

In this tutorial I demonstrate A/G radar modes in the hornet covering MAP, GMT and SEA. This is an updated version of the tutorial as I made a number of mistakes the first time.

I agree with Simon. I’m new to DCS and currently learning the F/A 18 & the F16 and this is the most comprehensive video on CZcams. True story. i’ve been watching so many tutorials but nothing comes close to how you explain everything and the logistics. Thank you sir. It was very hands-on and everything was in layman‘s terms and for that, I’m grateful. Thank you. It now seems easy.

I have recently picked up the Hornet, and I'm having a blast with her.
Altho deploying air to ground was pretty shaky and I couldn't make sense of the radar. Which is now fixed (or so I believe, I will have to test that in the next session).
Quite a fortunate time to have found your channel, because for when I want to have some variety and a more air-to-air focused plane, I also picked up my favorite french Dorito in the last sale.
I'm sure your mirage 2000C tutorials will be as helpful when I need them ^^

Awesome tutorial! Not sure if it was mentioned, but it's important to notice that the radar elevation also takes an effect.. I had a bad binding on my HOTAS that kept the radar elevation to the maximum and I couldn't see anything on the map

Great video! One thing I heard in passing from some flight sim or actual military manual/guide is that operating ground radar is quite demaning and requires a bit of elevated training. It kind of makes sense to me because I'm quite familiar with the A-10C and honestly, in order to put long range munitions on vehicle small sized building in an area, you pretty much need a visual ID through a targetting pod and those will give you a super clear and confident picture within 15-20nm -- maybe even further with ATFLIR. Even better, you can do this while the plane is in orbit.
To be able to locate and designate identifiable targets through ground radar seems impossibly slow and restrictive. Even GMT seems a bit tough to correlate over a larger surface area to ensure you're picking the right vehicle or set of vehicles apart. My best effort to using ground radar is an attack on an airstrip/field or FARP that for some reason, the GPS coordinates aren't known for but could be identified at those ranges. Through blurry images you could hit specific runways, or where you can determine a control tower should be. Even so, in what situation would it be useful to designate such a target outside of 20nm? I'm sure it can be construed, but it's rare enough that I think this should always require a dedicated WSO operating the radar exclusively. Too much focus needed to require that from the primary pilot.
