    The smoke you seen was caused by oil blow-by that is dumped in the PCV ,it is normal at higher RPM you should invest in a catch can to help maintain from build up

    • @rileycates5049
      @rileycates5049 Před 5 lety +1

      Definitely I have been running a catch can on my 3v and it's a must.

      @newfie-dean5803 Před 5 lety +1

      SickStang615 he would also see this if for example he was to cold start the car and then immediately turn it off. Then if he started it back up 5 minutes after that it will shoot blue smoke out the exhaust. Does the catch can prevent that? Do you need 1 or 2? I thought I read somewhere before that you only need 1 but I can’t remember if it’s the passenger side or the driver side you need.

    • @Magana615
      @Magana615 Před 5 lety +1

      @@newfie-dean5803 If he cold starts then shuts down and proceeds to reignite it will be a rich fuel mixture and causes cloudy smoke , you can run 2 catch cans but usually one is enough for N/A applications

    • @newfie-dean5803
      @newfie-dean5803 Před 5 lety

      SickStang615 if you do what I said you will get a big puff of blue smoke out the tail pipes. I have a 2006 Mustang GT that will do that ever since new and I was reading about that happening to all the 3V engines. First time it happened to me I was like WTF. If you start it and let it run a few minutes it will not do that at all. It’s only if you start it cold and for just a few seconds.

    • @dalelockett2619
      @dalelockett2619 Před 5 lety +2

      +1 on the catch can! Driver's side is the main side to install it as this is the return side for the "PCV" system (enters engine downstream of the throttle body plates directly into intake)…..I'm using an ADD W-1 V3 series catch can on my '09 GT & it works wonders. I would also recommend that, if you're still using 5W-20 motor oil in a 3V, you upgrade it to 5W-30 or higher multi vis full synthetic motor oil as the higher viscosity oils are far more resistant to foaming when being slung around off moving engine parts as air is being drawn thru the engine so less oil mist to get trapped in it. Been there, done that. I had my GT custom tuned on dyno back in September...…...tuner made a total of 6 hits to get her to final numbers & my 3V never blew any smoke out exhausts after WOT, blue or otherwise......she has 144,500+ mi on the clock to boot (I do have a video recording of 1 of the hits that verifies this). Checked my CC afterwards.....never touched the dipstick then & hasn't touched it yet to this day (end of dipstick is 3\16" above bottom of CC) & I run Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5W-30 motor oil in it...…..best thing you can do to help protect the VCT cam phasers, improve VCT operational precision as well as maintain good timing chain tensioning & overall engine oil pressure is to use a higher vis motor oil, especially as the miles build up on them.

    Solid numbers! Been waiting months for this video. Peak power at ~6,400 rpm, wow! That dip between 4,500 - 5,000 rpm is a lil wonky, custom tune would probably smooth that out and gain ya another ~10 all around (yeah yeah not worth 800 bones), but defs good numbers for an email tune and Hot Rod camshafts. Looking forward to some centrifugal bidness.

Your car delivers a heck of a lot of muscle with those mods. This is a very exciting time for us Naterider Fans. As far as the smoke anytime you accelerate wide open throttle for that amount of pulls expect some smoke. It's no big deal.

    Nate, I'm glad to see that your engine is finally putting down the 340rwhp that I'd predicted. However the 15% drivetrain loss is a throwback to the 4-speed cars from the 1960s and is irrelevant to 5 or 6 speed manual transmission cars made in the last 20 years; it's more like 12% on the S197 3V GT. That said, 388 crank HP is still pretty respectable.

  • @elevate_y0urmind
    @elevate_y0urmind Před 5 lety +2

    Nate, first off please set that redline back down to 6400-6500. Stock valve springs are only good for 6800 and float past that. Also, it is NEVER a good idea to take these cars past 6500 unless your running phaser limiters or have them completely locked out. As for the smoke it is likely that you are burning oil due to its very slight bluish tint.

    I love your car and respect the passion, you're definitely one of my favorite 3v's. But to put all this money and work into a 3v just to be almost the same crank hp as a stock S197 5.0, would hurt my soul.

    • @peterm3159
      @peterm3159 Před 5 lety +16

      Man that's barely any money, the cost of his actual performance mods is very small. If you do the work yourself to install them, it's miniscule.
      I'm at the same spot with my 08 s197, Lito tune and all and I'm only 6gs in including the initial cost of car.
      You can spend 15k on a 5.0 to get you 360rwhp if you want, but after I drop 10k into my 08 4.6 I'll be at 800rwhp and just 16k invested.

      For me, as a 3v owner, it would be worth it because I think the 3V s197 is the best looking Mustang since the 69 Fastback. I respect the Coyote but I just don’t like the look as much. Of course this is all dependent on personal taste, some guys like the fox bodies the best for example. Plus I’m not dumb enough to street race so as long as it’s fast enough to be a fun drive it’s all gravy.

    • @newfie-dean5803
      @newfie-dean5803 Před 5 lety +4

      It’s still pretty cool because he will surprise lots of Coyote owners and the 3V sounds better than the Coyote engine. And it’s a good project car to slow the capability.of that engine. And this body style looks great, it looks better than the 10-14, it has a true retro look with the best throwback styling to the late 60s Mustangs. I love the stance of these cars with nice wheels and wide tires.

    15% is not 0.85. Divide 1 by 1.15 and you'll get a different number than 0.85. The same is true with 20%. Decimals and fractions are weird like that. The inverse of 1.25 is 0.8, for instance. And the inverse of 0.75 is 1.33(repeating). Also, I can almost guarantee whatever cams you choose are sub-optimal.
    Look up David Vizard and basically redo your (or do any new) engine based on his expertise, particularly when it comes to headers and cams, but what he has to say on head work is equally useful, just less applicable since it's harder to custom order head work than it is to get custom ground cams or a set of headers that are close enough to correct (or at least useful) to what he would spec.

    I keep reading people questioning Nate on the money he has put in his car when there is S-197 with a 5.0 that you didn't have to spend money to achieve the same results. Have you ever thought it's fun to mod and see what you can gain on torque and horsepower? The first year the S-197 Gt got a 5.0 was 2010 and it's ugly in my humble opinion furthermore the 2005-2009 Mustang is the best looking in my opinion. I like my 2005 Mustang GT. I got it new as a surprise birthday present in November of 2004. I'm retired now and don't drive it that much but I love her. She has 107 thousand miles but she is mine. I have bolt on-s and have a CDC grill, removed the GT emblems, and the back spoiler is off and she is gorgeous. I enjoy the passion Nate has for his car because I can relate. Nothing against your Mustang but I thought maybe you would understand more why we mod slower cars. Lastly, if you haven't ever grown a mustache than you are lying. What's the big freaking deal? Maybe you don't have the balls to grow one. So you drive what you want to drive and let us 2005-2009 GT owners drive ours. If we all had the same car it would be a boring world, right?
