      And half of them are: "It is not a skylight"
      Which.... yes? it's a solar tube? I know I won't be able to see the sky or open the window... if I wanted that I would not be searching solar tubes?

    I had these installed 20 years ago. Now that things have changed like large wall mounted TV I now have a problem with mine. The light reflects onto my TV making it impossible to watch tv in the day. Also the 2nd one was in an area over my desk in the back room. Had the room remodeled into a bedroom but had to design the layout so that the light would not be directly in the sleeping area. Now it is in a walkin closet. Wish there were some way to fix the TV problem.

      They make a solar dimmer. That way, you can turn off the daylight. Easy fix for the homeowner who remodels. They work great. Call your nearest solatube dealer.

    How well would this work in snow country we get 3-6' each winter, how much heat loss is this going to create?

    • @Triplepeaksroofing
      @Triplepeaksroofing Před rokem

      No heat loss at all. They still work here in Northern Ohio snowmelt areas.

    These pros and cons are so obvious I can't see the point in mentioning them. And about the light getting weaker the longer the tube is; what about some numbers?

      A Solatube can have a 30-foot run on the 14" without losing light. Specs are on their website.

    Several of these images were actually telescopes and the boneheads who made the video were clueless about it. In fact at the 6:47 mark they actually showed a reactor tube with no idea of what it was. At the 8:03 mark, they show liquid solar heater tubes. Again, clueless. At 10:02 they show solar hot water heater tubes. More cluelessness. They claim skylights are more expensive to buy. But this is nonsense! 14 inch diameter Solar tubes at Lowes' or Home Depot cost 3 to 4 times as much as skylights which are much larger in area as well!

    The dialogue was not written by a native English speaker. For instance, what in the world is "unwanted popularity"? The robotic voice delivering the pitch was annoying as well.

      It's a lot of random pictures of telescopes and electronics that have nothing to do with solar lighting. This video is just weird. I have to agree with you - because the voice detracts from the video.

    So many problems with this video. Let's start with the name. It's called Solatube Lighting, not Solar tube. Immediately discredits the intent of this video.
    If you want a skylight, you can look out of it and see the sky. You also get all the heat that any window allows thru. Velux skylights have in the instructions to not put a film on the window. It voids the warranty.
    If you are just looking to brighten up a room, then the SOLATUBE is the best tubular lighting out on the market right now. Doesn't create condensation or allow dripping onto ceilings, as the video suggests.
    Not everything on the internet is correct, and this video puts out a lot of incorrect information.
