    We always take the fill plug of first, just in case it’s stuck and you can’t put the oil back in. Not so relevant on newer vehicles like that though! Great video, nice to see a company that wants to change these oils, most just can’t be bothered or think you are mad for asking, and charge you double for the trouble!

    Little trick for filling these up, use a 6ltr pressurised garden sprayer. Put 6ltrs in. Fill the sump up first until it comes out the fill plug. Put the plug in. Start engine and rev it to 2.5k 2 to 3 times and turn engine off. Fill again until it comes out the fill plug. Plug back in. Start engine and go P to R,N,D tip 1st and tip 2nd, then back to P. Fill sump up again with engine in idle until it dribbles out. Plug back in then drive up to temp, we usually check at 40 degrees.
    To get them up to temp quicker you can leave it in D with your foot on the brake and it'll get up to temp a bit quicker.
    Remember too the torque converter will have a good amount of oil in it still, and then you'll have some still on top of the mechatronic.

    Hello. The real way to change the oil in the box is to remove the oil from the crankcase and change the filter. Put back the oil that came out of the cap and place the dialysis machine and wait for the inside of the box to meet the new oil and wait until the old oil comes out completely clean, (while the vehicle is running) . After that, wait for the oil temperature to drop to less than 35° and open the level plug and check that it is level. Greetings.

  • @spracing04
    @spracing04 Před 3 lety +5

    I had the same issue on my BMW ZF 6HP26 transmission. Drained the oil as per the ZF guidelines, changed the filter, got the transmission to temperature, cycled the gears and could only ever get just over 4 litres of fluid back in, even though the capacity is 9 litres. I think a lot of fluid stays in the torque converter and doesn't drain out when you take the sump plug out.

    If you drain ATF when cold you don't need to worry about the extra .5l for cooler as the valve is shut. I did my 2013 tdi420 following procedure except after first drain filter change and refill i took it for a drive until ATF was at 75c then let it cool down to under 30c and drained and refilled again. All up I put in 8l of ATF.

    Its not actually that hard. The written instructions make a simple procedure seem complicated... the essence of the procedure is fill it as much as you can without the engine running, start the engine and keep filling it until you cant fill it anymore, run it though all the gear lever positions so that the solenoids all activate and fluid can flow through all the channels in the box, let it keep warming until its at least 30C, but not hotter than 50C, and top it off. That's it.

      That's not what the instructions say though. But that's what you should do unless you have 2 days set aside.

    They really don’t want you to change the oil in these gearboxes…

    Is it a good idea to replace the rubber sleeves in the metatronics in the 8hp at the same time as the oil change, apparently the sleeves are part of the zf 8hp service kit?

      No sleeves in the kit?

      No I ordered them separate from zf and it fixed my lumpy going into 2nd gear on my A6 bitdi, keep it in mind for the future, you never know you might stumble across this problem and it’s an easy job to do also. Love you vids keep up the good work mate 😎

    Why don't you try using a stand for the camera, the video is hard to watch because you keep moving your head.

      If we didn't speed it up then it would be hours long. If you are stuck with something then just ask.
