How to crochet a simple heart baby pinafore / dress

- This step by step tutorial will show you how to crochet a cute baby pinafore / dress with heart. This pinafore is suitable for beginners.
For size 0 - 3 months use a 4mm crochet hook
For size 3 - 6 months use a 4.5mm crochet hook
For size 6 - 12 months use a 5mm crochet hook
For my pinafore I used Drops Merino Extra Fine yarn (DK weight).

I saw this pattern and knew I absolutely had to make it...same colors and all. It is adorable! I just finished the heart and feel like I accomplished the world. I am a beginner at crochet but will never advance if I don't try something more difficult every now and then, right?. I have a problem though. I didn't realize until now that there were buttons on the back. I am making this for our new granddaughter and think buttons in the back would be uncomfortable for a baby who lays on her back or is seated in her car seat, back up against the car seat.. I could use some help in knowing how many rows to make on the strap so I can attach them directly with no buttons. 16? 18? Any other advice? Thanks UPDATE: My husband says to me...don't baby clothes usually button at the top of the shoulder. Brilliant! I will split the straps, half on each side and add snaps at the top of each. It is this kind of thinking that attracted me to him 38 years ago!
Well done for doing the heart; I messed it up and compensated by reversing it completely and having decorative buttons on the front instead.

Hi, love your patterns, I was following your pinafore dress tutorial and couldn’t get the stitch count correct when I chained 44, so I changed it to 42 starting chain but I am unsure as to whether it will work in ok .
nice but confusing. how do we decrease the bottom without the heart shape? i wish it was better explained but i guess i will figure it out

Thank you! You could always add the straps to the top of the back instead of the front and put the buttons on the front. Or you could add smaller buttons or popper snaps x

I'm confused about row 5. You say it should end with 33 stitches, then you say 35 stitches.

Lacey Khilling I see what u mean . When she says 33 stitches she means in the middle (33 single stitches) then she mentions 35 because of the 2 together in each end. So in total you should have 35 stitches counting from start to finish on row 5.
2together=1stitch +33single stitches in btw +2together=1stitche grand total 35 stitches. Hope that helps :)
