What a player Charlie Nicholas was in his prime...a naturally gifted footballer who should have achieved much more in the game than he did with his talent.
I was at this game aged 14. First Glasgow derby match. We had travelled up from England to see Charlie Nicholas in action. Tickets were procured from a tout by my Dad outside Ibrox. When we took our seats well before kick off we realised with increasing dread we were in the Rangers end. An orange flute band we’re sitting behind us. The Police came and shifted about 20 Celtic supporters who had also obviously fell foul of the rogue tout before hostilities commenced. Crazy days.
I was 11 , in the Broomloan with my uncle and his pals . But I clearly remember hearing guys on the supporters bus on the way over that had tickets for the Rangers end of the Govan Stand and the East Enclosure thats day. From what I gather they still all ended up in the Celtic end 👍👍
My 1st Old Firm game with my dad, I was 13, When my dad passed away, I mentioned this great memory with my dad, and Charlie Nicholas scoring the winner. Last night I got to meet Champagne Charlie, and tell him my great memory. Bail ō Dhia ort Dad ☘️
Loved watching mcstay with his hands up so excited from his strike but Nicholas goal was just hands down one of the top goals ever scored against rangers.....perfection
Tavy@ i remember charlies goal well. It was a peach and best goal that year by far! Charlie had great natural abilitay and should have won more down south. He even scored amazing goals for arsenal, i remember they free kicks he just put into the top corner with any foot.

They simply cannot take Celtic fans celebrating now. In fact this is RFCs true level before the financial doping years of murray and EBTs. Sevcos at the real level now.
Back in the day when we got about 16000 tickets . First they took the Govan then the enclosure and main std , then the Broomloan. Same with them at Celtic Pk used to get a bit of the jungle till the mid 70s then the main std took from them 1990 , now both sets of fans under 1000 stuck in a corner . Ruined the atmosphere
Leo gribbon@ yes it was. Charlie knew what he was going to do as soon as he got the ball at his feet. With a slight glance up to left and right he knew he was going into the box to score. With born natural skill some times thats all you need and your brain and feet do the rest, some times skill just takes over and you cant describe how you beat players then score like that. It was maybe the greatest celtic goal ever? Only maradona at that time could have scored that goal.
As a sixteen year old this was my first time inside Ibrox great win that day but looking back now just to see the amount of Celtic Supporters is laughable they couldn't even fill their own end wont be long before they are offering us that sort of allocation again Hail Hail 🇮🇪☘🍀
Nearly 25.000 bears in the big jock knew camp we were in your main stand. Came out the ground and you were know where to be seen shat it at your own ground typical tarriers remember what you want to remember. 🇬🇧
How shit was Packie Bonner?,the Rangers keeper wasnt much better either ,he should have had that shot from Nicholas,it wasnt exactly postage stamp corner was it?
Spd47@ yes i know. Although nicholas hit that ball sweet and the goal was the best individual goal ever seen at ibrox and maybe for celtic to. But when you watch it again and again you cant help but think why didnt the keeper stop it? It just seemend to go through his hands. Its almost as if he let it go in? But again a do think its becouse the keeper just never thought that charlie was going to even get into the box? Then do a quick shuffle to then hit it fast with his left foot in the way he did. But stewart was watching him dance round them for about 15 seconds wich is long, and from 35 yards out. It was just bad goal keeping tbh. But cought on the back foot becouse of the sheer skill in wich nicholas executed it. And from that perfect camera angle it is a joy to watch. Only maradona could have did that, at that time in 1983.

That is one of the best goals i have ever seen in my life, the way he created the chance from the throw-in was just amazing.
