- Lenny Magill, Founder and CEO of Magill's GlockStore, does a deep dive into the new Glock G17 Gen5.
In this video, Lenny looks at the Upper and does a complete disassembly and reassembly.
The Glock 17, Gen5 is our Item #7927 and can be found here: www.glockstore.com/Glock-17-Gen-5 - Jak na to + styl
Every time I watch one of Lenny's vids, I learn something about Glock's I didn't know.
Thanks Len, I appreciate that.
Absolute lifesaver. I had a bonehead moment where I put the slide back on without the barrel or recoil spring (I don't know what I was thinking) and I quickly realized I was in a pickle. The slide wouldn't come off the lower. I googled Glock Gen 5 disassembly and this popped up, and now I know how to take apart the firing pin and safety. Thanks for the help and knowledge! Now I feel a lot more confident in my ability to fully take apart my Glock. And I did it all with a tiny flathead screwdriver.
This is amazing info. He basically just gave everyone an armorer's course at no cost. My department just switched to G19 G5's so this is absolutely invaluable to me. Thank you, Lenny!
Lenny is a great teacher - talks to you not at you. He’s forgotten more than many Glock owners know.
Lmao
Best videos on Glock cleaning/disassembly. It’s a lot to watch the entire thing, but when you want to do things right, it’s worth the time (for someone who isn’t an expert).
I have to say, Lenny, these videos are immensely helpful. Thanks so much for making these and all that you do.
Auto mechanic for over fifty years now helping at friends gun shop tytyty for explaining so well big big help
Definitely the BEST presenter of any I've seen on R/R for guns. Certainly for Glocks: Great lighting, great sound, great voice, slow and articulate speaking (TY x 2), calmly and smoothly shows each piece and part, great stories. Totally outstanding production. Had I seen Lenny before I bought my first gun, I'd've been a Glock fan for sure. Thank you!
I really appreciate you taking the time to run these tutorials, as I find them extremely helpful. One suggestion though. May I suggest making two videos? One like this one, an extended version where you spend a lot,ore time explaining all the aspects of each piece and part, how they come together, how the parts work, etc. And the other, an edited version for those of us who are actually disassembling and reassembling along with you. I spend a lot of time forward advancing these videos in 10 second incrimenrs, simply because when we're reassembling we're trying to complete the project. The backstory to each part, the new barrels crowning, the cost of each part, etc. All of these stories tend to make the assembling and reassembling process a little more confusing. Not that the back stories aren't interesting, the small changes from generation to generation, the overnight shipping costs on small inexpensive parts that get lost easily and are expensive to have shipped overnight. Just a thought. If you edited each process, the disassembly and reassembly, slowly but steadily, you could condense both processes down into 5 minutes for each, editing down a nearly one hour video into a very helpful and to the point, 10 minute video. Just a thought.
I don’t care how long the damn video is. Lenny’s voice is so soothing, he could come to my house every night to read me bedtime stories.
I agree
Sounds like a Radio, or sports announcer guy for sure.
Some of do care how long the video is. Just the facts sir just the facts. 😜🤪😴
Thank you Lenny! You just saved my life! I did a newbie move and removed the backplate without capturing. All the parts shot out and hit me in the eye. Took 30 mins to find them all and then had to figure how they went back in. Quite a learning experience.
I'll take shit that never happened for $1000 Alex...
@@wgkimmel Ok. The answer is. Number of times wgkimmel DIDN’T molest a family member….
You're sooooooo funny. How will I ever sleep at after a burn like that.... 😂😂😂😂 Dumbass 😂😂😂😂
@@wgkimmel probably with an underaged family member?

Lenny, I want to thank you for your video’s and your knowledge of the Glock.since I found one of your video’s I was sold on a Glock. I also like to watch video’s from other people and I am amazed on how they break down their Glocks. They don’t use the correct names of the parts. One guy had a really tough time removing the lower plate on the Mag! I wish I lived near by to take some or all of your classes.
Things were crazy in CA when I got out of the Navy in San Pedro in 1968. Glad to see nothing has changed and next generations of crazies have taken over leadership of the state. The Gen 4 Glock 17 is one of my favorite sidearms used for LEOSA qualification and range fun.
I love San Pedro
Thank you so much, Lenny, for your great videos! I just got myself a Glock 19 Gen 5 and I'm watching your videos to learn more about it. You're a superb teacher, great voice and super easy to understand even for someone like me, who's from Austria, so English is not my native language. Please keep up this wonderful work, I'm looking forward to the next videos!
I love these vids and I hope every Glock owner finds themselves right here. Hailing from Germany, thanks for the informative video!
Yes, as some say, the videos are long but I like that the extra knowledge is shared. It shows Lenny's depth of knowledge of the Glock pistols. I advance the video to what I want to watch as I have used the videos multiple times.
The video speed function works great on his videos cheers
Whew! I'm glad you go very slowly, explaining step-by-step. It makes it easy for me to follow. Great video!!
Being a bit of a novice, these vid's make for great info and reference when needed.
Thanks
This guy has a great voice. Awesome video sir, it really helped me out with my Glock 19. It’s my first handgun and I had no idea what I was doing. 😆
Thanks, just broke down my GEN5 and with your help, put it back together.
Excellent video, just bought a brand new gen 5 and wanted to get into details like this and you nailed it.
A huge thank you for the fantastic video & audio production values. The best of all firearm videos.. bravo!
Lovin' that old school trigger pull measuring device. That is awesome!
🙌🏻 you saved my ass on this one man! Sent out my gen5 for a slide job from Jeger works and it came back disassembled and with the deffert looking parts form the gen 3 I have I was lost!! This is why go I store has had and will always have my business!!
Totally agree with AZ Dean the best explained disassembly/reassembly video on CZcams! Thanks a lot GlockStore!
I love the orange follower on my gen 5 G17. And yeah it’s great to see it through the witness hole. My G17 is my everyday concealed carry, despite its length the width makes it easy to tuck it away.
I purchased a glock 19x several months ago. I really like the nature of it’s simplistic functioning. So i bought a glock 43, and i plan on getting a 26 and 29.
Okay going to need to watch this many more times!
This is such a great video. It is really pleasing to see every little part taken out and discussed. Thanks so much for sharing this knowledge.
Best breakdown video I have seen! Thank you!
Great video Lenny - many thanks for the effort. Learned a lot of new tidbits along the way. Pennsylvania would welcome you back!
Great video enabled me to swap my stuff over to my new slide. Thanks!!!
Great informative video, just purchased a new Glock 22 Gen 5, interesting you didn't clean your new guns, the reason I do is they always come over oiled and can be a little dirty from the test shot(s) so I do it for that and also to get familiar with the new gun, like this one, i cannot remove the slide the way you demoed, i follow the same steps except after i pull the two slide locks, i pull the trigger and the slide releases, didnt realize the trigger needed to be pulled so that's why i couldnt get it to release, the video i watched before i found this channel didnt mention that
Use tungsten disulfide (Ws2)! Dry powder, slipperiest thing on the planet, sheds carbon, bonds to metal by rubbing it on, doesn't attract dirt, doesn't come off, withstands 100,000 lbs. of force, eliminates wear. I run my guns dry with NO problems or signs of wear. Better than oil (oil attracts dirt) but if you are worried of what I say, Ws2 also blends well with oil and can be used together. I've been using it in my car's engine oil for 12 years and the engine is like brand new (no wear!!). Nasa uses Tungsten disulfide (Ws2) on the Mars rover. Great for guns! I use a short bristle 1/4 in. paint brush and a q tip to rub it on.
I love my Glocks and look forward to buying a Gen5 G26. Great video.
Damn, you just saved me money from the going to the gun smith ! No joke , I was just about to make my appointment then I took a chance and pulled up CZcams to diagnose my issue with my Glock ! You rule ! Going to purchase form the shop with the money u saved me
Worth the time even though it’s long, really great depth and explanations...
You're a really good teacher. Thanks
Excellent Gen 5 video, thanks!
This guy sure does make everything real simple. Thanks!
Except his video is too long
@@enforcerstarwolf5792 Yup that 45 min could have been done in 20 and no information left out.
Amazing. Thank you so much, sir.
Thanks Lenny. Looking to buy a Glock again after a Ten Year Hiatus from Glock.
Best Gen5 video I have seen. Thanks!
AZ Dean Boy if you watch other guys and how they talk and work on their guns....Lenny wins hands down as the best teacher/safety instructor
Thanks Lenny I just bought 2 gen fives this year from you
Watched this video after getting my first glock, shooting it, and using this to learn how to disassemble and clean it. "Recommended to clean and then fire" bro...
I bought a Glock17 Gen5 last year. Was a bit on the "I don't know about that trigger" but now that I understand its function I am enjoying it and wouldn't change it.
Fantastic video! Very helpful and greatly appreciated Lenny... thanks! Looks like there are different versions of the Gen 5 17? Just picked mine up and it looks slightly different than the one in the video. It has grip hash marks on both ends of the upper assembly and the grip is missing the half moon indent on the trigger side.
Great video! This guy explains perfectly!
As always very informative, enjoyable and entertaining. Thank you. Consider moving your whole operation to Florida.
Great explanation Lenny ... as normally you do!
This was the most helpful video thank you Magill
I think Glock quietly resolved the finish issue on the gen5 slide release after a few years of Glockstore selling a boatload of Gen5 slide releases in different colors & a finish that is very durable. Bought several slide lock, slide release, & pin kits from GS.👍
As always, great video, thank you so much!
Excellent video! Thank you!
great video for learning the gen 5 thank you!
“I like to talk a little bit” 😂😂😂. But very purposeful and informative. Thank you!
Great instructions Lenny - I truly appreciate all your videos. As a side note/question what brand/model watch do you have on - it looks beautiful
Nice video !
Welcome from Austria / Vienna !
Best CZcams Channel for Glock !
Great video as always! Thanks Lenny!
Hey Lenny, side note about the alignment sleeve that lives inside the slide.. you can remove it by
using a 9mm brass bore brush and it doesn't damage it at all.
This was a happy mistake on my part, but useful knowledge for removing it.
Cheers, thanks for the videos, they sure do help.
I did this and it worked very well, I learned something new, thank you!
Thank you Larry, you are the man!
Thank you very much for this excellent video!
another great video, breakdown is really the same for 3/4 gens
Wow great video! Thanks lenny!
HEY GURU GUN GUY...YOU ARE A MASTER. I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOU FROM THIS VIDEO. OTHER DUDES JUST AREN'T AS DETAILED.
THANK YOU
Great tutorial, thanks!
The 26 and 34 Gen 5 are also available now.
Awesome GLOCK videos‼️👀😎👍🏽
Great video! You are the best. Thanks for the detailed video!!!!
That very last part really got me thinking, the firing pin needs to be forward when the slide is put back on the frame? I just bought a gen 5 a few weeks ago and have only field stripped it a few times but I don’t recall having to do that. I know my gen 3 does not require that. Is this new?
Lenny, that explanation was the best one I have seen. Thank you
Great vid Lenny; huge help!
Very interesting. Thanks!
The spring cups are like valve stem keepers.
Everything is simpler - the barrel muzzle has a very large impact on accuracy. To protect the muzzle from damage, it is usually treated as a muzzle chamfer - the crown. Thanks for video! When will be released Glock 22 gen 5 ??
Mal in einer anderen Sprache: Einfach ein tolles Video, das man auch in der Schweiz für die Zerlegung und den Wiederzusammenbau der Glock perfekt nutzen kann. Ein toller Kanal mit wertvollen Informationen! Macht weiter so. Wenn ich Mal in der Nähe bin, komme ich gerne bei Euch vorbei! Mit den besten Grüssen aus der Schweiz! (Viel Spass beim Übersetzen... :-))
It is noted in the manual of the Glock
Clean and oil.
I never argue with a manufacturers manual!
What a great video thank you so much Lenny I learned so much you're the best and the professional Glock rules, sometimes😂
Great great tutorial! Very detailed! Tks
I'M SO GLAD I DON'T LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, I GOT MY GLOCKS 💯 🇺🇸 👍
@@Peppersquads That’s the original store. Their recent second store, a new construction building, is in Nashville.
I do smh lol it's horrible I'm barely able to have a g34 smh hopefully moving soon 🙏🏽🎬

@@professored7169 no it doesn't lol
Any plans from Glock to put gen5 into CA roster? I'm sure there're planty many people in CA who would buy it then.
Excellent
I love your videos, however the red follower is to show when the mags OUT, not the round count. The shiny brass casings in each number hole represent the bullet count and are numbered. But i appreciate the reach on the additional changes and why
Great video. Thanks!!!!
Good video. I do wish you would have showed how to remove and replace the firing pin channel liner though. And you said the safety plunger goes in only one way, I wish you would have showed that in more detail. All in all though, great informative video. Thanks.
I had the extractor pop out on me while messing with the upper and immediately had a brick of shit in my pants! Thank you for the vid helped tremendously!!
U literally just saved my life
I have the Glock 19 gen 5 and I'm thinking of switching to the gen 5 g17, It's way more spacious in the grip then my 19
Does gen 5 upper parts besides the barrel guide rod and backplate fit gen 3?
Thank you.
Hands down the best video on CZcams! Thank you very much!
Glad that was brought up 💯. Because I would have done that ✔
Very helpful
Hey seeing as Glock changed the rifling, did they alter the Chamber, or is Glock still a minimal supported chamber? I do a crap ton of reloading and haven't gotten Glocks due to that factor.
Thank God i moved out of California when i did. Move to Missouri we are a permitless carry state and open carry. And it's very easy to get your ccw permit. We can have any firearm and any mag capacity. And we just passed the stand your ground law. I think it's upsurd that only LEO's can own Gen 4 and Gen 5 Glocks but not the public. They do realize a Gen 3 can kill you just as dead then a Gen 4 or a Gen 5.
you can get them in most states
Lol i bought a gen 5 a few days ago and im 19
Thanks for vidéo! I didn’t understand if extractor needs to be lubricated or needs to work dry as fire pin. Anyone knows? Thanks
Never knew why you couldn’t shoot lead from Glock...good explanation.
Is it possible to put the firing pin safety in the wrong way. Or do the cutouts on it mean it can only go in one way? The design is different from the gen 3 I noticed. I transferred my internals to another slide and now I’m paranoid I didn’t install it properly. It does pass function check though and blocks the firing pin so I guess all G?
Is it normal for my striker or firing pin to protrude from the face when I have the slide locked to the rear? I'm able to push it back in with my finger but it seems loose. has about a 16th of an inch of room to wiggle in and out of the breach face when the slide is locked back.
I am unable to remove slide on glock 23. Trigger is not stuck. Gunsmith had removed the plate on back pulled the striker out. He said he had to 'reposition' the recoil spring/slide rod. I guess he had to use a long, slender tool to do so. Anyway, he was able to release the slide and even did a couple times. When I arrived home I was unable to remove the slide - I have disassembled and clean this gun MANY times. I am unsure how this recoil spring gets out of position.
thanks
So no oil on the fire pin or plunger but what about graphite powder would that hurt or even make a difference for that matter I use to use graphite allot for lube in my weapons that wouldn't build up with sand as bad and jam when you had her wrapped up but never applied it to the fire pins in a glock just was curious
