KLM Martinair Cargo Boeing 747-400ERF.
Route was from Abu Dhabi to Amsterdam arriving just before sunset. The video starts with the initial descent positioning us on left base to intercept the ILS (instrument landing system) for a landing on runway 18R (Polderbaan). Taxiing back is to the cargo ramp on Schiphol East.

I remember landing in Schipol in 1983 on a KLM flight from Houston with my folks. I was 8 at the time. For some reason I remember the next gate over was a JAL. My Aunt and Uncle who were stationed at an Army base in The Hague picked us up and we began a European trip I've never forgotten.
That landing was as close to perfection as I've ever seen - beautiful!
Flew into Schipol a couple of times on my way to Russia. The airport is gigantic as well as the terminal.....everything is huge. Amsterdam is a beautiful city for sure.

blampa Yeah and he disconnected the AP at FL130 - thats what flying is about. And that's what keeps your skills sharp. And that's what should be allowed, trained and encouraged by a lot more operators today since relying on automation is gaining the upperhand in the aviation industry unfortunately.

Taxi drivers don’t even compare to pilots in terms of pay. The average taxi driver salary is about 40k/year, while a pilot’s is about 100k/year.

robert glenn I agree, I have always dreamt of being a pilot, but the closest I've get is playing Flight Simulator X, regarding Lubritz, those kind of people will you find everywhere, in any kind of work, but most pilots are good people, that do their jobs right and safe, and they most likely love their jobs, or else they would have found something else to do in their life, since they are intelligent people (or else they would never have become pilots in the first place).
Erland, if you are still relatively young and desire to fly for the commercial airlines, you can do it!

This is flying. :) Disconnecting the A/P far before the landing and not stabilized on ILS what can be seen on many cockpit views is much to easy. Excellent job gentlemen.

That was an unbelievable video, especially in HD, and on a nice screen with my face close to it. That's how I watched it once I realized it was true, dense-as-heck 1080p. The quality of the footage is about the best I've seen in a cockpit footage clip and I found it almost dizzying. So cool. Thanks for sharing it.
That was a beautiful landing. On the glideslope the entire way. Papi indicated 2 red 2 whi all the way to touchdown!

Boeing 747 was the coolest looking jetliner ever.
She's a beauty. The most commanding presence of any jet liner. When you see a 47 coming in on approach its one of those jets that just make you stop and watch. Sorry but the A380 is a butt ugly plane.

The first officer was simultaneously operating the throttles, leveling the wings, controlling the pitch and adjusting the trim of a 747 as its hurtling through the air. Perfect time for a lizard to ask him if he's satisfied with his car insurance.

This is what I like to see. Disconnecting the A/P and A/T far before configuring the aircraft. Many clips that are showing landings as where mostly the A/P and the A/T disconnecting when the aircraft is (nearly) configured for the landing and stabilized on ILS. That is, sort of speak, a piece of cake. Well done guys on a great landing and job. That is what flying is all about.

Thanks TPC and flight deck crew for making/publishing this video. Seeing videos like this always amaze me at 'how different' things are than how I (as lay person) envision them. For example, 'perspective' ... look at time point 4:43 - l think to my lay person self: "WOW that's so high above the airstrip, no way they are landing on that!" Because, my perspective is completely disconnected from (ignorant of) the reality. So thanks again for showing us non drivers what you do up there, it's awesome to see!

Serious question - on touch down - when you reverse thrust, are you still at idle? I didn't see him increase thrust - but I also don't know if reverse thrust has something built-in to change engine speed.
