If you look at the average couple, the woman is typically more likely to own boots than the guy - we all know most guys still strut around in sneakers - but most women's boots aren't all that durable. Very few women own boots made with full grain leather and Goodyear welts, which means that once the sole wears down the boots are largely useless. But Julie stopped by the studio to share her thoughts on the best women's boots that can be resoled and last far longer than typical fast fashion footwear.

As a female viewer of your channel, I really appreciate this video! It's frustrating how limited women's options can be for quality boots. I usually have to resort to men's boots in smaller sizes and a narrower fit. Thanks for covering different brands and options, I'm going to check them out!

I disagree with you Jennica I believe women have more options then men when it comes to shoes and boots or just fashion in general
I’m referring to the types of shoes exemplified in the video like Goodyear welted, Blake stitched, etc. The heritage boot industry is absolutely male dominant.

This video is a great starting guide for boots for women bc I had no idea about Goodyear welts or replacing boots. I thought some boots were really expensive for no reason, but I still like wearing boots from my time in the military. And I really like the idea of saving money by being able to just replace the welt overtime.

I'm a woman in a blue collar field with small wide feet so I am in a different demographic then I think you guys were going for but this is really cool!

Great video. I've had good luck this past year getting my wife into Red wings. Of note they do have a more comfort based insole than your typical mens heritage boots. I've actually found excellent deals on hers as they likely don't sell as well as the mens and were all 1sts. She has Iron rangers, Clara, Harriet (older with leather sole) and the sweet Indigo blue legacy Moc toes. She's holding out for some Gracies next. :)
Hopefully Truman may reconsider in the future as those look really fantastic.

This makes me so glad that I wear a D width. Just the other day I snagged a weatherproof pair of Allen Edmonds suede boots, and I have a pair of White's Main Street's with a Dainite sole on the way. Who knew wide feet were such a blessing?

I want to get a pair of Thursday Chelsea Legends. I am a true 8 but the sizing says to get an 8.5. Is it necessary? I don't have a wide foot and like to wear thin socks. Is the length true to size or are Thursday's for women just smaller in general?

THANK YOU. I'm so baffled as to why there aren't good women's boots - and when they exist, they're incredibly narrow. I end up with shoes that are 1" too large at the very least on the regular, because my feet are so ridiculously wide.

A few extra brands for consideration. Grenson, Tricker's, Cheaney's and Church's. British brands, all bar Grenson are exclusively UK made, while Grenson offer both UK made & made in India (with UK quality control) ranges. Pricewise, while none of these are cheap, for the quality you get, they aren't overpriced (with the possible exception of the Prada-owned Church's).
Office of Angela Scott has lovely options and amazing sales (sample sales, too)! Just be mindful your not choosing the “polished leather” which is cheap bookbinder leather with an acrylic coating so the uppers won’t last as long as the welt most likely.
RM Williams another good option 👍

Can’t comment on the women’s boots, but if the Frye boots are made anywhere near the quality of the 12r engineer, they are worth the full price and more. I’ve been wearing those nearly every day for a decade, through 2 resoles, and they will outlast me. Been trying to get my wife into some too, maybe this will convince her!

I bought a womens Thursday Combat boot "I'm a man" because they don't make that style for men! They're very comfortable but I noticed that the finish on the boot is really light! The whole finish is cracking everywhere and the leather is much thinner! I don't think it'll last as long as a Dr Martens
Lol... I’ve. been toying with the idea of buying a women’s Red Wing for the same reason. There’s a style like the iron ranger which is 8 inches and has speed hooks but they don’t make it for men...and it’s awesome.

I found these all to be too small. Size 11.5 or 12 arre nowhere to be found. So I need to stick to the less sturdy ones.

Idk if you’ve mentioned this before or not but there are a lot of videos of women that buy and wear men’s GYW boots (and shoes). She doesn’t have to just stick to women’s.

I figure Truman just paused production of the women's line because of COVID but is it really a full on discontinuation?
Originally they said it was because "This is due to nothing other than some equipment changes on the floor that don’t allow us to easily switch from men’s to women’s lasts. They have been well received and my own personal opinion is that they are one of the best options for women’s Goodyear footwear on the market. We’re hoping some time this year to relaunch them once we have time to do an entire week or two of production with them. "
Then I followed up again a few months later and said there were "no plans at the moment" to bring them back.

@@Stridewise I'm talking about the goodyear welt. I don't think they gave it an honest enough chance. Fast fashion makes more money for them. I have an unusual foot size and extremely muscular calves. Women are apparently supposed to have small calves and feet that are more narrow than mine. For me to get the right width I tend to have to buy at least 2 sizes up and that only works for short boots. I have a deep instep, so some boots will never work for me, and my foot length is if size 10. So, finding a 12 in women's shoes is difficult. I've gone shoe shopping with help from associates and found sometimes one or two pair of shoes in a store to choose from. My feet aren't swollen either. Big feet just run in my family.

I had the same concern. Honestly sometimes I feel like they do make my already-somewhat-large feet look longer, but I find that to be less true with tall boots. The height balances out the length maybe?

@@Stridewise Fair point in terms of expectations. If budget is that low, I'd be more interested in looking into the used market on Grailed or eBay. I've picked up several hardly worn boots from some bigger names for a steal.
