      Perhaps, for future sponsorships, you could get a manufacturer of double-edge razors or razor blades. That would seem to be a good fit with the whole quality-boot and -shoe thing you have going on with this channel, not to mention more sustainable than all the plastic on these multi-blade heads.

If a company cuts corners on Women’s footwear, I feel like that’s a good indicator of a brand’s willingness to cut corners on the men’s line down the road. Am a lady, but work in trades. I've had a terrible time finding half-decent women's boots with steel toes that will rock with me longer than 6mo. Last several years, I've been going with Caterpillar Revolvers and Timberland Pro Direct Attach, both in steel toe. I rotate the two pairs in respect to weather (the timberlands are waterproof). Though, I'm not afraid of getting the Cats wet. They've done well to keep my feet dry when weather catches me off guard.
      The Cats are great at the price point (~$100) until the plastic welt starts to crack (~1 year) but to be fair, I tend to kick things and have a habit of kicking to shed mud and dirt. They are comfortable right out of the box. The leather is surprisingly nice (full grain, pretty thick and gains a nice patina), too nice to toss on a plastic welt IMO. They tend to last me just shy of 2 years. However the last pair I bought as a replacement (summer 2022) didn't have the same quality- leather was thinner and looser in grain, these might last me a year or so. The leather is nice and I would resole, but the cost of resole with a new welt exceeds the cost of a new pair.
      The Timberlands, also pretty good at the price point (~$150). Comfortable right out of the box and lasts me about 2 years. Every new pair of Timberlands is identical to what I've known for years. Consistent, reliable.
      I have about a dozen pairs of red wings (men's and women's). The differences I noticed in construction are softer and thinner materials and the poron footbed in women's. The women's line is designed for quick accessibility over durability. And the reduced overall volume, even in equivalent lengths, is kind of a burden unless you have narrow to narrow-average feet and low to average arch. My feet are just under average width with a normal arch, and I had to work to make space in the women's boots, especially with my 3355 and 3404. And I would say that in my group of lady friends, I have the slightest length:volume ratio. My feet are almost dainty. I would pick a men's boot over a women's boot if given the option. There's some pain either way, and I'd rather lean towards durability.

      Stephen, based on Rose Anvil’s segment on the jungle boot, I managed to find a pair of size 4 jungle boots with the larger lugs from an online army surplus outfit. I had to stretch the leather at the forefoot area to make them comfortable.
      Fashion wise, the jungle boots are strikingly distinct compared to the currently made Doc Marten boots. Whenever I wear my jungle boots, the boots get noticed by both women and guys: “Hey, those are cool boots. Where did you get them?” I think this shows that the classics stand out no matter what era of time it is.

I'm a woman with feet a bit on the wider side, and I often gravitate towards men's boots if they carry them in my size (7.5 women). It's difficult to find quality women's boots in general, so reviewing brands that carry both men's and women's or at least a wide range of sizes in men's is extremely helpful.

    Love this. I am female and I love Goodyear welted leather shoes and I enjoy doing the leather maintenance necessary. There’s something poetic about taking care of the shoes so the shoes take care of you.
    Women’s boots are often too narrow for my feet but often the smallest men’s shoes size (men’s 7) is still a little big for my feet. Maybe I’ll just a custom made bespoke pair I design myself if I ever get the money for it. For now I think I’ll just stick to men’s boots that carry a size 6. I actually own a pair of Red Wing ice cutters. They’re a winter shoe so the thick wool socks I wear fills them out. Absolutely love them and wish they still made them so I can get them in maple.

      @poilaaliop Před rokem

      Heya! I have similar needs and preferences to you, from the sound of it. I'm currently looking into buying my next boots from Adelante, they seem to operate on a partial MTO system and have quite a lot of gorgeous women's styles made with traditional construction. (I'm also looking at Bordon, they don't specifically market to women but their Chelsea boot has a lovely shape.)
      I hate how so many brands make women's shoes so narrow. Statistically, women's feet are smaller, but they aren't proportionally narrower than men's. The only reason women's shoes are made more narrow is aesthetics. We all be so much more comfortable if companies made their shoes to a slightly wider standard! Kinda breaks my heart that Red Wing's women's line falls under this too with their B width, my Red Wing 980s in men's D width (standard for men's shoes!) are the comfiest things I've ever put on my feet.

    Yes! So happy to see reviews on women's boots!
    Have sent a couple of emails requesting these types of videos after my husband started watching these videos. A lot of companies (even top ones) don't make women's shoes/boots the same as men's. I.e. welt, sole, leather, etc. Since there are not much for women, I have been looking into wearing men's boots...because they are made better.
    Most women don't worry about the quality, durability, material, types of welts, etc. But as someone who has bad feet from cheap/bad shoes, wearing heels, sandals with no soles, etc., I have to pay attention to what I am wearing. I don't mind paying more money these days, but also want to know I am ordering a quality product, that will last me for years...and might possibly have the option of being resoled.
    Keep the women's reviews coming!!! 😊

      JoHanna, if you don't mind dealing direct with the makers, it's worth taking a look at the Grenson, Tricker's & Cheaney websites. All three have extensive womens ranges - admittedly, mostly cloning their mens ranges in a narrower fit, but they all have some specific women only styles. British made (mostly - Grenson has some made in India), mostly goodyear welted, so resoleable. Pricey, but not overpriced...

    • @poilaaliop
      @poilaaliop Před rokem +1

      @@gchampi2 Hiya! Sorry for jumping into a comment meant for someone else, but as another lady who has focused on buying good-quality shoes for a while, I just wanted to say one thing.
      Women's feet are shorter than men's, but they're not proportionally narrower. Women's shoes are built on narrower lines due to aesthetic preferences that come to us through fashion history. Because of this, many women wear much narrower shoes than they should and end up developing bunions and bone spurs in their middle age. It's not even that these women have statistically wide feet, it's that most womens shoes are made for narrow feet. Your average women's shoe is too narrow for your average woman to wear comfortably. Most of us get used to the discomfort in childhood and either don't notice it as adults or assume that's what shoes SHOULD feel like. I find that pretty sad. And it's especially sad that Red Wing have made this mistake too, making their women's line proportionally narrower than their men's!
      That being said, I'm pretty sure the British brands you mentioned are much better. I can't speak for all of them, but I know Solovair use the same lasts for their men's and women's shoes. I loved my pair, they were good friends to me for over a decade. I've heard that British-made or British-designed women's shoes tend to be less narrow. My Penelope Chilvers shoes are really quite comfortable, for example. They're made in Portugal, but designed here.
      Though not British, Adelante seems to be a fantastic option for women. They have a partially-MTO system and offer many widths and styles. My next shoes will probably be from them.

    My wife has a pair of Red Wing Harriett (same boot but in a Chelsea style), Truman's (I dont think Truman makes them anymore), Frye's, and several pairs of Carmina boots. Truman's are built exactly the same as men's. Thick leather mid sole, Heavy, Heritage. Her Red Wings seem to be not nearly as high quality as the Truman's but still pretty good. I prefer the Truman's, she prefers the Red Wings due to comfort. Her Frye boots seem too fashion forward even their Goodyear welted line. But the real rockstar are the Carmina's. She loves those things and they are super high quality shoes. They are comfortable but still seem to use less synthetics as the Red Wings. Carmina definitely uses thinner leather uppers. They are far less heritage but still have a lot of very classic silhouettes and goodyear and blake stitch. Would love to see you review more women's footwear!

It seems like manufacturers make cheaper, less durable boots for women because they think we all want to look cute. I don't care about looking cute when I'm chopping through my jungle of a backyard. Hope you get around to comparing the men and women’s Iron Rangers. I was quite disappointed when I tried the women’s, but lucky for me they had a smaller pair of men’s that fit perfectly. (Although it took me ages to break in the way I wear’em). All in all they felt flimsier, the profile was more narrow and they were too dainty for me.

    • @saoirsefitzpatrick1123
      @saoirsefitzpatrick1123 Před rokem

      I had a women's pair for 3 months before they failed a the heel on both boots, but I'd be inclined to agree with your thoughts. I personally liked the lower profile toe and narrower fit (I seem to have really narrow feet). My mens pair feel a good bit more robust, and are definitely heavier. As well, I found it odd that the women's IR has a glued in foam insole rather than the leather footbed on the mens. Otherwise, they're probably the same, but I'm not convinced they're built quite as well as the men's ones, given mine failed to fast.

    • @poilaaliop
      @poilaaliop Před rokem +1

      Yes!! The narrowness kills me every time. While women do tend to have much shorter feet, there's no evidence that our feet are proportionally narrower. The decision to make all women's shoes more narrow than a men's shoe of the same length would be is ridiculous. I wish Red Wing did their women's shoes in different widths... I'd buy Claras and Harriets in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, they only make them in a B width. Guess I'll keep saving up for Nicks. (Bordon's Chelsea boots are attractive too though, and I'm intrigued by Adelante's system.)

The sales rep seemed very knowledgeable about the construction too. His wife has Claras and he was able to discuss how they wear too. They don’t have wide sizes listed online but the store was able to order a wide size for me. I got a pair of insoles with them and it made a big difference. I really like them but I do not wear them neatly as often as my husband wears his. They’re great walking boots but not great for sitting at a desk 😂

    Thanks for the vid on the female style boots, I usually have to grab a male boot for my needs but am glad an option exists that is nearly as rugged as the male boots. It would be nice to see a female boot that didn't have the heel.
    Is the heel drastically higher than a cowboy style boot? I wouldn't think the construction of a cowboy boot would differ much from the female boot with heel.

    Happy to see this. My theory had been that since our culture encourages women to consume more in the way of fashion items, and therefore turnover pieces faster, companies would design women's footwear to be cheaper and more consumable than men's, which would be a real injustice if true. Too often, I think that shoe & clothing manufacturers overcharge for women’s fashion. That really irritates me! Specific to this womens Red Wing shoe, I understand a reasoning for the foam layers in the sole of the shoe, but I take issue with the counter cover. Seriously? I don’t think the higher heel would necessitate a lower quality leather for the counter cover. In my opinion, that is an easily seen inferior aspect when you compare to the mens model. For me, a nice smooth counter cover is something I appreciate every time I put on a shoe because there is nothing more irritating than feeling my sock catch on a rough surface and prematurely wearing out and pulling the surface of my Smart Wool socks.
