- Windshield Long Crack Repair
Purpose
With a 6-inch long crack on the windshield, hope the repair will:
1. make it less visible;
2. stop the growth of the crack;
Supply
* RainX Windshield Repair Kit (resin bottle)

* Disclosure: As an eBay Partner, I may be compensated if you make a purchase from the product links I posted in the video description and comments below.
which comes with:
1. Resin bottle, x1
2. Curing strips
3. Razor blade
No affiliation. I chose it because it includes "long crack" in its product description and instructions.
Steps
1. Mark the crack from inside.
2. From outside/above, apply resin VERY slowly along the crack.
3. Move at the speed for the crack line to disappear (not as visible).
4. Reapply resin wherever necessary.
5. Apply a small amount of pressure on the crack, from inside in the car.
1. just enough pressure
2. on both sides and center of crack
3. to help reduce air pockets
6. Cover the crack with curing strips.
7. Move the car outside, under the sun, and let it cure for 10 minutes or so.
1. Or you may use a curing light.
8. After it is cured, remove the curing strips.
9. Use the provided razor blade to scratch off cured resin on the glass surface.
1. Hold blade 90 degree (perpendicular to) the glass.
10. Check crack visually.
Notes
+ It is a cloudy day and I leave the windshield under the sun/cloud for hours to cure.
+ Crack is much harder to see after the repair; but visible from a certain angle.
+ One month after the repair, the crack remains the same size (no growth).
Question
Not sure how long the repair will hold up, but will report back in a year or so.

Be safe. Stay dirty. Enjoy the work!
God bless!
A one-year update (14 months after the fix): The glass is holding up very well. There is no growth of the crack. Most of the crack, after the fix, is nearly invisible except for a small portion at the top. What I'd do differently, in retrospect, is to apply the resin from bottom up (against the fllow). It will help it penetrate better. Hope this helps!
Almost 2 years (21 months) later, zero issues with the original fix.
Thanks a lot for sharing! Why do you think from bottom to top will make it penetrate better?
@@lidingzeyu Gravity. When applying from the bottom up, you move against the free flow (gravity) of the resin and, in a sense, stop it there for better penetration. The opposite (top-down method) will allow the resin to run down freely on the glass surface. Hope this makes sense.
Can you take the cat through those machine carwashes ? Will it break the windshield?
My crack is all the way across from left to right near the top of my windshield 😢
@@Mikesfans For small cracks, this isn't a problem. However, your crack sounds rather big and, with all layers of the glass and/or even the seal damaged, water may penetrate all the way.
This is what I needed. I have cracked windshield I wanted to see if it worked. Thank you professor for showing useful things.
You're welcome! FYI. After over a year, the fix still holds up and the crack didn't grow at all.
Short, concise, informative. Thank you!
Thanks! Glad it helped.
You did much better than some of there hacks, thank you...
Thank you! Glad to know.

Thanks for watching! Hope it worked out for you.
This doesn't work for cracks if you have a crack like this the windscreen needs replacing as one more hit and you could have issues best to get swapped out chips are fine.
The purpose of this fix was to stop the crack from growing. It has held up very well, after almost two years. For me, zero issues so far.
it's also less likely to have hits exactly at the same spot

Thanks for watching! Hope you fixed it.
Too dark to see anything.
Sorry to hear this! Such a crack is difficult to spot until you find the angle. One alternative is to view it from inside and use a marker to draw the line, which you can see from outside and follow it to apply the resin. Hope this works for you.
